La Grange, 220 m2 of living space, with beautiful majestic oak beams and wooden floors, has been completely restored and renovated in the style that marries authenticity and comfort. Nestled on the grounds with the XVth century Tour de Guet (Watch Tower) and Le Four a Pain (Bread Oven), La Grange has its own private entrance, parking and garden giving you total privacy. La Grange is the only rental on the property. Inside a spacious ground floor encompassing the living area, dining and kitchen are created in an open design under oak cathedral ceilings. This area flooded by light and vistas through French glass doors offers a view of the grounds and surrounding forest. A large terrace becomes the ideal location to relax while listening to the birds announcing the coming sunset.

The black lined pool 5 x 12 meter with its wooden sun deck is just 30 meters from the terrace. A perfect spot under the sun and ponder the marvels of the day's visits. We are located 8 Km from Vergt, where you will find basic supermarkets, shops & bank , 17 Km from Bergerac (and airport), 35 Km from Perigueux, 1 hour from Sarlat and St Emilion.

About Michel Robert

Welcome to Le Mourier. Michel and I are originally from Belgium but have spent the better part of our lives living in the US.  Michel worked throughout Latin America and I was a professor of photography at the University. Our dream was to one day come back to our native Europe and relive our childhood memories. In 2003 we made our first visit to the Périgord area and in 2006 found our paradise. Since then we have lovingly restored the XVth century Tour de Guet and its surrounding to the authenticity and splendor we believed it once was. We have been enthralled by this area; its nature, history, food and wines all embued within the light that is the Dordogne. We look forward to sharing with you and your family this amazing place we call home.

Notes on accommodation: Non-smoking house (but smokers are welcome to smoke outdoors). An information pack of local tourist attractions is given on arrival. The owners live separately on the property and are happy to offer assistance or advice if needed. Otherwise you will enjoy total privacy during your stay. Outside: Large patio with dinning table and chairs, Gas Barbecue and umbrella 5m x 12m Black lined pool, lounge chairs, wooden sun deck and solar heated shower. Large fire pit for nightly bonfires (fire regulations permitting). Ping Pong table, Badminton, Darts, Petanque, three Bicycles and two Ping Golf sets available. Private garden. Utility Room: Separate large laundry room with large washer & dryer, sink, iron & ironing board, vacuum, household cleaning products. Adjacent coat hall. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, bath and pool towels provided. Guests are asked to leave the house as clean and tidy as they will find it.

We can only echo the comments made by others.

Le Mourier is a stunning place to stay. The barn has been beautifully converted to the highest standard, and is similarly well appointed with furnishings and equipment.

Michel and Lelen are perfect hosts, and the location is both very quiet (you can hear woodpeckers and owls) and convenient for visiting towns and villages. Excellent restaurants are everywhere!

The rental includes the swimming pool - which is very private and very large, meaning you can have a proper swim. The pool is served by high quality decking, chairs and umbrella - so perfect for a day by the pool too.

All in all, one of the best places we have ever rented and it "made" the holiday. We would 100% recommend the place to anyone.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Le Mourier. We felt relaxed and 'at home' the moment we arrived. The house is beautiful and set in the loveliest gardens and surrounded by woodland with a stunning black pool. Absolute bliss!

The house is very well equipped, Lelen and Michel the owners have really thought of everything.

We will definitely return!

Beautifully restored Barn

We had a wonderful week at Le Mourier. The barn has been beautifully restored and Marie-Helene and Robert made us feel very at home. It is very well equipped and they thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable. The food in Bergerac was fantastic and very good value for money. All in a hugely enjoyable week.

A rural idyll

The owners, Lelan and Michel, have created a sanctuary at Le Mourier. Set in a huge clearing in the woods, it is a haven for wildlife and a place of peace and tranquility. Without the noisy intrusions of modern life, we rediscovered the joyous sound of birdsong.

La Grange, the ancient barn, has been imaginatively and painstakingly restored to its present magnificent stone and oak construction. Inside it is equipped with everything we could possibly have needed for our comfort and convenience, including all the household necessities, a generous supply of comestibles and wines!!!!

We spent a lot of our time enjoying the garden and grounds, and in fact ate most of our meals outside on the terrace. We also used the excellent swimming pool almost every day. The black liner really works well, its appearance blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings,

We had great fun one evening when we lit the bonfire which had been laid for us. We sat under the starry night sky and were magically transported back to childhood.

We made a number of visits to nearby markets, towns and bastide villages, including Perigueux, Bergerac and Montflanquin. A boat trip on the Dordogne was a highlight.

Lelan and Michel could not have been more friendly and helpful. They have managed to turn their dream into a brilliant reality - quite an achievement.

We loved our holiday and highly recommend La Grange.

The pretty resort of Cap Ferret & popular beach area of the Bay of Arcachon with its dune de Pyla, biggest sand dune in Europe are 1h45 minutes away by car. Authentic oyster and fishermen's villages as well as restaurants abound.


Bergerac airport is 20 minutes away, with flights from the UK & Paris. Amsterdam & Belgium flights are from Apr to Oct. Bordeaux international airport is 1 hour 30 mins away. Bergerac train station is 15 minutes away (frequent daily Bordeaux trains, the trip is just over 1 hour). There is a car rental agency by the station and at the airport. Paris is 6 hours away by car, or via Bordeaux train, 4.5 hours. A car is needed if you want to visit the many castles and sights of the area.


The small town of Vergt is only 12 Km away and has a good market on Friday mornings + banks and supermarkets. Bergerac is 17 km away with lovely markets Wednesday and Saturdays.

St Emilion - Unesco World Heritage site and home of great french wines, 50 min / 55 Km.

Beynac, Roque Gageac, and Castelnaud, all approx 45 min / 40 Km.

Lascaux - prehistoric caves 50 km

Sarlat - medieval town 1 hour / 70 Km.

Bordeaux (also UNESO world heritage) - a beautiful city is 1:30 / 130 km.

The Dordogne (24) is a department found within the Aquitaine southwest region of France. Most French people refer to the area as Périgord, a name used for the region before the French revolution; the region changed its name to the Dordogne in 1790. Famous for its natural beauty, prehistoric and architectural treasures and of course its food. It hosts prehistoric paintings estimated to be 17.000 years old, some 1001 chateau's and of course it's Truffles and Foie Gras. Canoeing is a popular sport on the Dordogne river as many of the Chateau and villages can be visited along the way. There are several night markets in the summer months with outdoor dining and live music. Also some excellent restaurants in the immediate area including a Relais Chateau and two Michelin stars. There are brocantes every weekend in various villages & farmers markets most days where fresh, home grown produce can be bought. All in all a small bit of paradise.

Booking Notes:
500 euro deposit per weekly rental is payable on booking. Balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival. A 200 euro security deposit will be asked upon arrival and refunded upon departure. Guests are asked to leave the house as clean as they found it.

Changeover Day:
Saturday in season (flexible out of season). Arrival after 4 PM and departure before 11 AM (unless by prior arrangement with owners)

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
