Rouffignac Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Near Les Eyzies and within easy access of all the tourist sites.

Welcome to our 2 lovingly restored holiday cottages. At the end of a quiet lane, nestled on the side of a valley, there is no traffic, no noise and no distractions. Despite these tranquil surroundings, we are still close to all the main site seeing attractions at Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Perigueux, Beynac and Domme.

Originally barns, both properties have been recently renovated and are well equipped to provide you with everything you will need for your stay. Newly decorated and furnished, they have a bright and light feel, while still retaining some of the original oak beams and woodwork.

However, what makes this property really special are the views. Sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine on a summers evening, watching the spectacular sunsets over the valley and the chateau, will give you holiday memories to take away and cherish forever.

Details for The Old Barn 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2, 1 Bathroom

One of two cottages, a really cute, recently renovated barn. It sleeps 2, so would suit a couple or a family with a baby. Situated on the side of the valley, the views from the terrace overlooking the valley and the chateau are truly beautiful.

The property includes one double bedroom, with a double bed. A fully equipped open plan kitchen and dining area, together with a TV (French and English). Both the living area and the bedroom open out onto a terrace overlooking the valley and chateau that's straight out of a fairy tale. The perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and alfresco dining.

Originally a barn it was renovated in 2012. Redecorated every year, the cottage is fresh and bright, but still retains some of its rustic charm with original oak beams and woodwork.

Ideally situated, the cottage is close to all the main site seeing attractions at Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Perigueux, Beynac and Domme but its peaceful location also offers the perfect ‘get away from it' all holiday

Why Karen chose Rouffignac St Cernin

Over the years lots of people have asked why we decided to move to France. The only answer we have ever really been able to come up with is that ‘we fancied a bit of a change’. And that’s really all there was to it. At the time we had very little understanding of the country or its people, naively thinking, ‘How different can it be ? It’s only across the channel’. Stupid right ?

But that was such a long time ago. Here we are now, 13 years later, living in a part of the world that really is truly amazing. The scenery, even after all this time, can still take your breath away. We enjoy some of the best food and wine in the world. We have the space to grow our own vegetables, rear our own animals and have settled into country life in a way that we never could have imagined.

But most of all it’s the quiet that really makes a difference. Whether it’s a warm summer’s morning or a crisp winter’s day, it will always be peaceful and very very quiet. But don’t just take our word for it, come and see for yourself….

Guestbook comments from the owner

beautiful stay at a very fine location

  • 5 of 5

We were here for one week and we really enjoyed it. The weather was very good and the location also. The hosts prepared everything for our vacation very well. Also they were very kindly. The location is well-integrated in the nature but also near to a lot of touristic places. We want to come back soon, because there are a lot of things we could not do in one week because there is so much. So we will definitily come back for a longer time to explore the whole area.

Enjoyable stay in pretty village

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the old barn. The property was 10 minutes walk from the village which has a good Sunday market. There is also a Carrefour express a few minutes away - useful for when other shops are shut mid afternoon. Eggs from chickens were useful and views spectacular. Steve was very helpful and we enjoyed our lunch at Layotte that he booked for us.

Not that much privacy when sitting outside as minimal screening between both gites outside was ok- no oven just microwave which I am not used to using and fridge quite small. Wifi signal available right next to window but would be useful if it was stronger and able to use in whole of gite and outside on terrace ( whilst drinking wine!).

Easy to find and lots to do in area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us and we are so glad you enjoyed your time here. You'll be pleased to know that we have since then installed a Wifi booster to give guests a stronger signal in the Old Barn, as due to the thickness of the stone walls there were black spots. We have found this to be quite effective as the signal is now much stronger. We decided to fit a gas hob and microwave in the Old Barn due to the space available and also feedback from our guests was that they were mainly preparing simple meals. Thank you again for all your comments it is always good to get feedback from our guests. Kind regards Karen and Steve.

A wonderful week in Rouffignac

  • 5 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my week in this pretty cottage. The location was excellent. The market was excellent and within walking distance. It is also a great location for visiting the areas prehistoric caves. I enjoyed beautiful walks and runs on the trails nearby. Property was very clean and well-maintained. The owners provided excellent service when needed. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives. The daily gifts from the hens were a special treat!

The Old Barn

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Old Barn in the Spring, the location is excellent, not far from the main tourist attractions but also very quiet, it really was a very relaxing holiday. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable, the views of an evening are really special, overlooking the hills and the chateau. If we come back to France we would certainly think about booking here again.

In the heart of the Perigord Noir, the property is a ten minute stroll from the village of Rouffignac, where you will find everything you need, including a typical French market every Sunday, a fabulous bakery, post office and a number of bars and restaurants, all offering good home cooked food of the region.

Ideally situated, the cottages are nestled on the side of a valley, with spectacular views of the chateau and the surrounding countryside. A short drive will take you to all the tourist sites, including the famous medieval town of Sarlat, the caves at Les Eyzies and Montignac, walk the cobbled streets of the ancient Roman city of Perigueux and visit one of the many chateaux near Beynac and Domme. For the more adventurous, take a canoe trip down the beautiful River Vezere or enjoy the views from the skies in a hot air balloon.

And at the end of a long day site seeing, relax in what is quite possibly one of the most tranquil places on earth. Known as the land of 1000 chateaux and the birth place of modern man, the Dordogne is a truly magical place. We hope to see you soon.
