Guestbook comments from the owner

The trulli is set in beautiful surroundings down a country lane. You immediately feel in a very peaceful and tranquil environment. The trulli itself has been restored to a very high standard and maintains some of the original features. We particularly liked the master bedroom and ensuite which is situated within one of the ‘cones’ of the building – it has a very romantic and magical feel about it.

Outside there is a plunge pool where you can wallow amongst the stunning views and olive trees and there are also plenty of shaded areas which we found particularly nice to sit in on the hot afternoons. Sarah Handley

We had a fantastic holiday which was mainly because of the trullo. The locals in the village were so friendly though and we were at Olive every day getting fresh supplies! We took home fond memories of our summer in Puglia. The pool was a big hit with our son Heath as well as the tiny gecko's that he studied for hours. - Liza Webb

Great Location close to Cisternino

  • 3 of 5

All the other reviews of this rental are correct, it's in a quiet spot along a very narrow road. Make sure you get explicit instructions from the Owner, as the GPS will not get you there - both Garmin and Tom Tom GPs's won't find it, they want to take you off on another track. What we found good was that Cisternino, a lovely small town with all the services you will need, is just a 8-10 minute drive away or a 30 minute wall up hill, all the way, along an unpaved track for the first kilometre, then pavement / road after that. What the other reviews don't tell you is that the power supply is hopeless, so if the oven is on the micro-wave doesn't work. The oven takes at least an hour to get to 180C. The freezer door of the fridge is broken so the fridge doesn't work efficiently - some times our beer and wine was warm, which also results in food spoil issues and buying ice-cream was impossible, it went to mush. There is no lighting over the outdoor dining and BBQ area so candle power is needed and that becomes impossible in a breeze. The toaster is the world slowest and the electric kettle has a broken lid. Get the message, everything is cheap and not well maintained. Be aware that the double beds in the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms face the wrong way, so one person has to climb over the other to get out during the night. As already reviewed, the indoor dining/living area is tiny and can only accommodate 4 people in comfort. The garden area is nice and the outdoor shaded seating area is a great place to relax, but it needs a table to accommodate drinks and snacks necessary at cocktail hour. The pool is small and deep and never warms up ( we were there for 4 weeks and for 2 weeks the temps were over 35C, and the water never warmed up. Two sun lounges are new, the other two on the verge of collapse. Luckily there are 4 sun chairs as well, if you are a party of 6.

We love Puglia and overlook the problems of this house as the location is central to all the major towns. The key holder Andy is very welcoming and will try to fix any issues under his control.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review of our Trulli in Cisternino. I’m sorry that you found problems with the electricity at the property. As you know the Trulli is in a very rural and peaceful setting and unfortunately the power supply is something we have very little control over. This means that some items do not operate as quickly as you will find in city centres. Although there are plenty of outside lights these are low down and your suggestion of better lighting in the outside dining and BBQ areas is very helpful and we will look into correcting this. We are also in the process of updating some of the kitchen equipment (kettle and refrigerator) that have been damaged during this summer period. We always attempt to attend to any damaged items as soon as they are brought to our attention. The Trulli is of rustic property maintaining some very traditional and qwerky features, such as the beds and unfortunately they do not suit every taste. Thank you again for your review. Regards Tony Gittins

Perfect stay in lovely trullo

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in this trullo and again we were very happy to be there! The whole property has a luxury feel but for a price that is unbeatable compared to similar properties in the area. The kitchen has everything you need, the bathrooms are very nicely done with more than enough fluffy towels. The pool is small but great to cool off and the 'beach entry' is great for children. The gardens are beautiful with lots of lavender and flowers and the outside eating and lounging areas are a great place to start and end the day. There are no neighbours in sight but you are nevertheless very close to the lovely town of Cisternino.

From here you can visit all the other interesting towns and places, like Ostuni, Martina Franca, Lecce and the beaches on the west coast within an hour.

Just one warning: the road tot the house is narrow with unforgiving stone walls at the end so better not come with a really large car! (We managed with a Volvo V70 though, so don't let that put you off!)

Highly recommended and we'll be back!!

Charming villa with all you could need

  • 4 of 5

We had such a wonderful time at villa oliva.

The trulli is decorated beautifully in a modern yet sympathetic style and had such a wonderful rustic charm but with all the mod cons.

The pool, though small was perfect for the kids to splash around nk and with it's sloping entrance it suited our young children well.

The pool is not fenced off and there are quite a few drops off the side of patios and stone steps inside (to be expected) our children (11 months and 3.5yrs) were able to navigate these just fine and we had a rule that no one went to the pool without a parent but good to know for young families.

The kitchen is well equipped and the owner and managers were quick to help with any queries we had.

There was a fab welcome basket on arrival and we paid a little extra for a personalised shop to be done which made life so much easier!

The villa is very much off the beaten track. Really close to the town centre but off a rocky side road which was a little hair raising in a rental car (!) but the trade off for this is total peace and quiet with just a short trip into town.

Well located for visiting the beach and surrounding towns we had a marvellous time and would highly recommend to friends and family.

Lots of optional add ons which I enjoyed- a dinner cooked by a local cook was provided one night as an anniversary treat- all arranged by the team.

In summary, a trulli (!) wonderful place to stay in a stunning location, beautiful decor and very reasonably priced!

Trulli - A Great Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week exploring Puglia and staying in this beautifully restored Trulli. The outdoor space is really amazing, very private with beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards and olive groves. This is where you'll want to hangout as the common area in the Trulli is rather small. The Trulli itself is very pretty with excellent showers, with firm but comfortable beds. The master bedroom in one of the cones was very pretty. The kitchen was fairly well equipped and we did cook in a few nights.

Be prepared that there are a limited number of electrical outlets in the Trulli - perhaps only one per room. This was challenging as these days everyone has cell phones and Ipads to charge - so you may want to bring adapters that can handle more than one device at a time.

While we were there we visited the nearby town of Cisternino which we really enjoyed. Great restaurants (Sant Anna and Osteria la Valle)and the people were very friendly and helpful. Overall, the food and wine (Primitivo di Manduria) in Puglia is delicious and a very good value.

We also really enjoyed Martina Franca, great shopping, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni, Lecce and Alberobello (very touristy - but a must see for all the Trulli). We took a night from our week to travel to Matera and that was also a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend that.

Contact with the owner was easy, the property manager was there to meet us when we arrived and we had no problems the week we were there and no need for any assistance. We booked early to receive a 10% discount, so I was surprised to see that the price had dropped after we booked for the week we were going to be there. I inquired as to whether they could adjust our price, but they did not. Just be aware that the price may change and make sure you are getting the best deal - I don't think we did.

We would recommend this property and would stay there again if we were to return to Puglia.
