In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty renowned for its coastal walks, the apartment features wonderful panoramic views of the Avon Estuary and Bigbury / Bantham beaches. These are famous for surfing, kayaking, wind and kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding with equipment available for hire on the beach. The apartment is only a few minutes walk away from restaurants, pubs, local stores, Burgh Island and Bigbury Golf Club. The apartment is filled with home comforts for a stylish self catering holiday with modern well equipped kitchen, double oven, microwave, dining area and lounge with panoramic sea views. Large open plan living room with Digital TV, DVD, i-pod docking station, double and twin bedrooms, family bathroom WiFi, and balcony. There is private access to the beach.

Notes on accommodation: There is a reserved parking space for the apartment. Discovery Surf School, some shops and local pub is only a short walk away from the apartment. Sorry, this property is unsuitable for dogs and we have a no smoking policy. Outside: The property has a private entrance to the front of the main building. There is a key for the gate to private steps giving direct access to the sandy beach and there is also access via the road to the beach for families with pushchairs. Utility Room: Not applicable. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and bath towels are included in the cost of your holiday but please bring your own beach towels. Clean linen and towels can be requested for a two week stay. The property is cleaned prior to your arrival and again upon your departure. Other: There is basket full of toys and games.

This truly is a home away from home with every imaginable comfort and convenience. Clean, tastefully furnished with magnificent views, I hope we will have an opportunity to return in the future. Thank you for a wonderful week’s break.

Stunning view!!!

A stunning view from the balcony at anytime of the day. Perfect location to surf. Can highly recommend the Pickwick Inn up the road. Will seriously consider returning for a third year.

A special place to stay

We loved the apartment - which was spotlessly clean on arrival - especially the sitting room and bedrooms. It was wonderful waking up (in an extremely comfortable bed!) to a stunning view of the sea and Avon estuary, and the children (who also had very comfortable beds) liked their view of the fields. The kitchen was well equipped and the apartment had lots of storage space. We liked the thoughtful collection of toys and games as well as useful maps and guides. We enjoyed going down the 180 steps to the beach (it was a bit harder going up them!).

Amazing view

Absolutely fantastic view it's what sold the apartment to us. Kitchen & bathroom a little tired. Bigbury has nothing apart from an amazing beach one of the best in the UK. Private steps were perfect as it meant you could get to a v quite part of the beach that few went to. I would recommend this if you want a beach or walking holiday. Loads of places to visit nearby attractions & restaurants.

My husband and I live and work in the Midlands. We know South Devon very well, as my husband is from the area and we have family and good friends who live nearby.

We have been on holiday here and have always thought that there was always something a “little bit special” about Bigbury on Sea with its stunning location, its friendly people, excellent local fresh seafood and organic produce. We had the opportunity to buy the apartment in 2012 with its breathtaking sea views and have already spent many happy days there. We have always enjoyed being by the sea and hope you will too, so if you are looking for somewhere to rest, relax, enjoy walks on the beach or go bird watching on the coastal paths, this is the place to be. We are now looking to rent our apartment out to guests. We invite you to stay at our apartment in Bigbury on Sea and we are sure that once you have stayed here you will want to come back year after year.

Bigbury on Sea is ideal for couples or families holidaying by the sea with body boarding, surfing, sea kayaking, wind and kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding, golfing, walking, bird watching and simply relaxing all the year around. The views are breathtaking!

Many South Devon beaches have awards for water and beach quality, and much of the coastline is under the protection of an AONB or the National Trust. There are miles of safe award winning beaches for families, or you can try some of the popular water sports, fishing or bird watching. Bigbury on Sea includes the exclusive Burgh Island Hotel and the 14th century smuggling inn the “Pilchard Inn”, which are accessible at low tide or by sea tractor at high tide.


Exeter airport is 44 miles away, about an hour in the car.

Plymouth is 17 miles away, about 45 minutes by car.

Bigbury on Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for couples or family holidays. The shallow waters and soft sandy beach mean that it provides safe fun for groups including children. Bigbury beach has a number of rock pools, so there’s plenty of sea life for you to go “rock pooling” with the children whilst the tide is out. The beach is popular with families and there are a number of activities available for adults.

A wide variety of water sports are available for people who enjoy body boarding, sea kayaking, surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing, with hire facilities available. Lifeguards are present at Bigbury and Bantham beach during May to September.

The beach has a causeway which floods at high tide, leading to Burgh Island's exclusive Art Deco hotel. It is a few minutes’ walk from the apartment and had guests such as Agatha Christie, Churchill and Edward and Mrs Simpson. The 14th Century Pilchard Inn, an old smuggling inn on the island also serves local beers and food at lunchtime and Friday evenings. At high tide access to the island is by the unique “sea tractor” which runs at half hourly intervals. The village has a general store, two beach restaurants and excellent Discovery Surf water sports school.

The South West Coast Path runs East through the village, crossing the River Avon on the small ferry and continuing towards Hope Cove, Bolt Tail and Salcombe and to the West across the Rivers Erme and Yealm towards Plymouth. There are stunning scenic walks along the coast to the secluded Ayrmer Cove and inland on the old Smugglers path to the excellent 13th Century “Journeys End” pub / restaurant at Ringmore.

The “Pickwick Inn” in St. Ann’s Chapel is an outstanding village pub with an Italian themed restaurant, perfect for every occasion.The Dolphin Inn in Kingston is a 16th century country pub serving traditional home-cooked meals and the 14th Century "Sloop" Inn at Bantham has an excellent reputation for cuisine.

Booking Notes:
All bookings need to be made on an Avon Quillet booking form, which will be sent to you by e-mail. A £100 deposit is payable at time of booking, with the balance due 45 days before the start of your holiday. When a booking is made less than 45 days weeks before the start of the holiday the full cost of the holiday is payable immediately.

A £100 security deposit is also required to cover the payment for any losses/ damage (refunded 7 days following departure subject to any deductions).

Changeover Day:
Changeover is on a Saturday. This is flexible for shorts breaks (outside of the school holidays). Access to the apartment is from 3pm on day of arrival and must be vacated by 10am on day of departure. We ask that the apartment is left neat & tidy.

Notes on prices:
Changeover day is Saturday. Prices are for 7 nights with the week beginning on Saturday.

Short stays are available at Avon Quillet outside of school holidays. Short stays are calculated as follows: 3 nights = 4/7 of week, 4 nights = 5/7 of week, 5 nights = full week.

A £100 deposit is payable at time of booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before the start of your holiday.

A security deposit will also be required to cover payment for any losses/damage (refunded following departure).
