About David Fisher
Jodaruya is owned by Joyce and David Fisher. We live in England most of the year, but are both semi retired and are lucky enough to be able to spend 3 months each year in our beautiful villa. We have four daughters and nine grandchildren who come out to stay with us when we are there (though thankfully, not all at the same time) We didn't rent the villa out for the first four years, but as it was lying empty during the summer months we decided to have a go at renting in 2010. Although it was a worry at first we have had such good reviews from our guests, it gives us a sense of satisfaction that other people enjoy it as much as we do. We have had repeat bookings every year since, which sort of says it all.
David Fisher purchased this Villa in 2006
Why David Fisher chose Kalkan
Like most people we had spent many many years going on holiday all over Europe and other places in the world and always dreamt about owning a holiday home abroad. Although we had been to lots of lovely places nowhere really ticked all the boxes. Then in 2003 we found the Kalamar district of Kalkan. That first time we had booked a hotel. I had spoken to the owner the day before for directions, telling him what time we would be getting there. When we arrived we parked our hire car over the road from the hotel and as we got out we heard a voice say "Welcome David" This turned out to be Zeynal the owner and from that day on we have felt at home and welcome in Kalkan. Ruya is Turkish for dream and Joda is short for Joyce and David hence the villa's name JODARUYA It is our dream.
What makes this Villa unique
Set just above the impressive Kalamar Bay, at the base of the Taurus Mountains. Villa Jodaruya’s location makes the most of the uninterrupted sea views. The centre of Kalkan with its picturesque harbour and chic restaurants is only a 20 minute walk away. There is a 10 minute walk to the nearest Supermarket and local restaurants. A short down hill walk brings you to two beach clubs by the sea in Kalamar Bay. Whilst there are lots of lovely villas in Kalkan with beautiful views you will find that lots of those views are from a roof or bedroom terrace. Jodaruya has uninterrupted views from right across the front of the pool terrace so there is no need to go upstairs for that fabulous vista.

Beautiful villa in a beautiful location.
Firstly the pictures really do not do this villa justice! It is lovely and spacious with great outdoor space too. You really will not get tired of the beautiful view. The pool is amazing and much bigger in real life! All the bedrooms are a very good size with the master bedroom being particularly spacious, with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. The other 2 bedrooms share a large bathroom. There was a welcome pack on arrival which was very much appreciated.
We had arranged a transfer with Dave from the airport which went very smoothly. Starting by being presented with cold bottles of water and a spacious air-conditioned taxi (there really is no need for a hire car). When we arrived in Kalkan we were met by the rep from the management agency who then took us to the villa.
It is in a lovely quiet location but within a couple of minutes by taxi to the centre of Kalkan (at a cost of no more than £3) or if you can manage it in the heat it is a (mostly) downhill 20min walk into town.
Within a 5min walk are bars, restaurants and a couple of small supermarkets (there is a small Carrefour in town). Our favourites were Cafe Vita (who also do a delivery service if you don't want to leave the luxury of the villa) and Brothers. Both had great friendly service and excellent food. When you venture into town our favourites were Aubergine and Teras, to be honest too many to mention. But I can safely say we didn't have a bad meal anywhere. The locals are very friendly and cannot do enough for you.
There are plenty of things to do although we just wanted to chill out so can't comment on too many apart from a day we took a trip to the Kalkan Beach Club, which is free of charge and worth a visit via the yellow boat from the harbour and again really good service from the staff. We also popped down to Kalamar Beach club (just below the villa) to try out some of the water sports, again this was very nice.
This was our first trip to Kalkan and will definitely not be our last. Dave was very helpful and made the booking totally stress free with lots of recommendations.
We had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to recommend the villa and Kalkan to our family and friends.
Lynn Many thanks for taking the time to write this lovely review. I know what you mean about the photos not doing the villa justice. I really must get round to getting some better ones done. I am glad that you liked the pool, as when we had the villa built, it was one of our priorities that we had a large pool where you were able to have a proper swim. The same was true of the bedrooms as we wanted to have a feeling of plenty of space throughout the villa. It really is a problem knowing which restaurant to go to as they are all very good irrespective of if they are top end or budget. With so many good ones now on the Kalamar Road it isn't necessary to go all the way in to the village for a nice meal. Really pleased that you had an enjoyable holiday and hope to welcome you back sometime in the future. Joyce and Dave
We all absolutely loved this villa; this is the 4th time we have visited Kalkan and this was our best villa yet. The villa was immaculate and very well equipped (we don't usually use a TV on holiday but access to the BBC was much appreciated for the Olympics!). We particularly liked the out-door area and the good sized pool; the view was stunning. Location wise we actually really liked Kalamar - this was our first venture into the area. It was about a 25 minute walk into town, but past some excellent bars and restaurants on the way (we caught taxis back!). There are some good bars and restaurants within a 5 min walk of the villa and the Kalamar beach club is just down the hill. We definitely hope to return.
What a view!
Loving the villa (even better than the pictures and the description); it's great location, the fab views of the bay, the large infinity pool, the roof top area, the perfect weather, the welcome pack, (especially the cold Efes (Turkish beer)), the comfortable sun loungers, the many tv channels, the help from the owners prior to going, including sorting out a hire car, the information pack, (make sure you visit Saklikent Gorge, Kapatus Beach and the Kalamar Beach Club), in fact pretty much the whole package!
We had stayed close by two years previously but this villa was a big step up and now there are a few more restaurants (particularly Yelken) locally it is even better as a wonderful holiday location. We would recommend this to both family and friends.
Many thanks to Julia and Andy for putting on this great review. It is hard to capture the lovely views in pictures, so it is always a nice to exceed peoples expectations. It is also nice that you mention the TV channels. Although you don't want to spend too much of your holiday time watching television,it is very handy to have to keep children entertained and it is definitely a bonus to be able to watch the sports and news channels from home. Getting out and about and dragging yourself away from the pool is also a very good idea as there is so much to see and do in the area, it is a shame to miss it. The Yelken is a new restaurant that only opened this year and is the closest restaurant to the villa, so it is good that you give it a mention. It is also really good that you would recommend the Vila to your friends and family. Hope to be able to welcome you and your family back again in the future. Regards Joyce and Dave
Villa Jodaruya - Excellent
We arrived late at night and it was so nice to find the essential provisions in the fridge ( plus a bottle of wine and some Efes). This meant after a long days travelling we could just sit outside and relax waiting to see the views the next morning.
And what a view you wake up to!! you can spend all day looking across the bay and watching the boats as well as the mountains. The villa is really well equipped and very spacious for 6 people both inside and out meaning everyone can have their own space to enjoy the villa.
There are so many restaurants within walking distance, it makes an ideal location to enjoy Kalkan and surrounding areas. Thank you Dave for allowing us to stay.
James Many thanks for putting this lovely review on. It is a fact that when you arrive late at night or early morning when everywhere is closed, it is a lovely treat to find some cold beers and wine in the fridge. It is even better to then be able to sit out and see the moon reflecting on the bay. Even so it still doesn't prepare you for the fabulous view you wake up to does it. You are right about watching the boats out in the bay and you can set your watch on all the day boats coming back across the bay at around 4.30 The addition of the Yelken restaurant this year has added another good option within easy walking distance to the villa, but it is hard to know which one to go to because there are so many really good restaurants in Kalkan. Glad you enjoyed your holiday and hope to welcome you back some time in the future. Joyce & Dave
Villa Jodaruya Kalcan
This was our 4th visit to this beautiful well equipped villa. we wanted to take all the family this time to see for themselves just what a fantastic holiday this is. The views from the villa are amazing, kalcan is a lovely town with some fantastic resturants and cafes, the local beach club was very popular with the younger family members. Can't wait to go back again next year but have been told i will have to take the whole family again.
Many thanks for this lovely review Alan. It was good to hear that Jodaruya and Kalkan lived up to all your hype and that the family had a good time. I know the younger ones enjoy Kalamar Beach Club with all the water sports that are on offer. I prefer the other one where you can have a nice lunch at the Kelube Beach Bar right down by the waterside listening to the waves lapping in. It's only when you go to Kalkan that you can appreciate how many good restaurants there are in such a small village, so it must have been good for the family to see for themselves. Look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. Regards. Dave & Joyce
Jodaruya Villa - Dolce Vita
Jodaruya is really a very special place for many reasons: villa comfort and facilities; location in Kalkan (and within Turkey): local villa service and helpfulness of Dave Fisher (the owner). All in all we had a fabulous 10 day stay at the villa – more or less perfect in all respects.
Our party was two families of three (in-laws/out-laws), which the villa accommodated easily with no feeling of being squeezed-in. There is plenty of space and areas to get away from it all if you need to. All three main bedrooms are generously sized, nicely furnished and decorated (with AC, which is a must). Downstairs is massive and very well equipped – again furnished and decorated to a high standard. Outside, there are a number of seating areas to the rear of the building, one in the front and one on the top floor. The main area to the rear overlooks the bay, which is superb given the location of the villa – above the others in the local area – an uninterrupted view. The pool is really exceptional – generously sized with an infinity effect looking out to sea.
The villa is located in the Kalamar Bay area about 2 km from Kalkan. Kalamar has local restaurants and hotels and few shops to keep you well provisioned (the shops have the same prices as those in Kalkan – and you can change money at a good rate (forget the banks!)). There is the so-called Kalamar Beach Club, which we didn’t use but has diving, skiing, jet ski etc. facilities. ‘Beach’ is an exaggeration as all the coast in Kalamar is actually rock. Next to the Kalamar Beach Club is another beach club (free). Nice for a swim – the water is great. Both these clubs are short 5 min walk from the villa (down a steep hill – the journey back needs some determination but well worth it!).
Visits to Kalkan are a must. A lovely place with really (genuinely) friendly people. Originally Greek village, its great place to explore. Plenty of restaurants for all budgets and the usual souvenir shops. Try the market on a Thursday (you can buy the ‘usual’ stuff). A boat trip is really worthwhile – for a day if you can. We hired a boat, which takes you sedately around the bay – and the crew looked after us really well (cooking was great!). You can walk to Kalkan, about 20/25 minutes, which is OK in the evening. For the less enthusiastic taxis are easily available with fixed fares.
David was very helpful during booking. He organised pick-up at the airport for us for stress free trip to (and from) the villa. Locall
Many many thanks Harry for a really full and informative review. I'm sure it will be very helpful for people who are considering renting our villa. It's interesting that you comment specifically on the size of the rooms and the space outside. When we initially bought the plot of land, the builder we used suggested that we build two villas and sell one of them. We went against this option because we wanted big rooms and more importantly lots of space outside and a good size pool. Having seen some villas where there is barely room for sunbeds we are so happy we kept to our original plan. I notice that you also had a day on a boat around the bay. It's a fact that everyone who does that really enjoys it and I feel it is a " must do " when visiting Kalkan. Thanks again Regards Dave & Joyce
Kalkan which was Described by Tapestry Holidays as the most picturesque harbour in the Mediterranean, is situated on Turkeys spectacular Turquoise coast, nestled in a beautiful bay at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. In only a 20 minute drive you can find the stunning Patara beach with its long sandy beach and beach café. You can sit back and enjoy the view of the sailing boats passing by on the sparkling sea. Ten minutes drive the other way is Kaputas beach with its stunning Turquoise sea.
Villa Jodaruya is a 90 minute drive from Dalaman Airport which is the nearest Airport to Kalkan. Whilst a car is not essential there are lots of places to visit within easy reach of Kalkan which can be enjoyed with the convenience of a hire car.
