About Mr and Mrs Lancaster

We are proud owners of Lancaster Cottage, an English 17th Century Thatched Cottage! We make Lancaster Cottage available for holiday makers while not in use by our family. It is our way to share Lancaster Cottage and its beautiful surroundings with people across the globe! Lancaster Cottage has been home to the Bonar family since our Grandmother Winifred Lottie Lancaster’s parents’ time and then the Lancaster family. Several generations of Lancasters and Bonars have lived in the Cottage and left their legacies and memories for us to share with our guests!

Mr and Mrs Lancaster purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Mr and Mrs Lancaster chose Bedfordshire

Lancaster Cottage is a lovely 17th Century thatched cottage with many family memories. It just had to be part of our family especially since it was home to several generations of Lancasters and Bonars who are related. It is located in a rural setting in the picturesque village of North Crawley, Buckinghamshire. The cottage is about 300 years old and was home to poet and gardener, Jim Lancaster who is widely known in the North Crawley area. Lancaster Cottage also served as a respite home to many a Royal Air Force (RAF) men and young girls during the London bombing, thanks to the late Winifred Lottie Lancaster (formerly Bonar). It was purchased, modernized, revived and restored in character within its interiors, and named ‘Lancaster Cottage’.

What makes this cottage unique

The Cottage is approximately 47 miles from London Heathrow and 18 miles from Luton. The Cottage accommodates a maximum of 4 guests per booking. Guestbook comments from the owner

Guests from Sheffield in 2012:

Thank you for a lovely place to stay. The cottage had everything we needed and more. I don’t think we’ve ever stayed in a cottage where there were so many extras supplied. Thank you. Lovely area! Been to the museums at Bedford about John Bunyon, Olney’s museum of William Cowper and John Newton (fantastic back gardens). One of our favourite places was Castle Ashby, north of Olney. Don’t miss it. It’s worth a visit.

Guests from York in 2012:

We arrived in beautiful weather to find a chocolate box house – wow! Thanks for a lovely place. We visited Woburn Abbey and Safari, St. Albans, Bedford, Bletchley Park, Althop House, Wrest Park. Then run out of time!

Guests from Banbridge in 2012:

We had a fantastic week. The cottage and garden are beautiful and it was a great base to explore. We visited London, Legoland/Windsor, Sheproth Wildlife Park, Cambridge, and Stoke Bruerne. The Shopping Centre at Milton Keynes was huge. Would love to return!

Great property

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean and well equipped and the garden was beautiful and very well maintained. The manager lives nearby and was on hand if anything was needed. The property is in a great location and there is lots to do nearby. I would definitely recommend a stay there and would have no hesitation in going there again

When my husband and I saw the cottage on the website we knew that it was the kind of property we would like to book and spend a week in. Having seen the photos on the website we were expecting a nice property but when we arrived and saw the property in real life we were really pleased as the property is absolutely lovely, it is very quaint and in a lovely rural setting but only a few minutes by car to great shops.

There are two pubs within walking a couple of minutes walking distance, one of which (The Cock Inn ) we found to be a great little pub with good food and a lovely atmosphere.

We found the owners a pleasure to deal with and we would not hesitate in recommending Lancaster Cottage as a lovely place to stay.
