About Diane Le Grice

The White House has been my family home since 1979. Since retiring from nursery education I decided to convert the wash house and annexe adjacent to the house into unique holiday homes in order that others might enjoy the birds, wildlife, peace and tranquility of the Norfolk countryside and nearby unspoilt beaches. My family are grown up now, but still can't wait to get back to East Somerton and revisit familiar haunts, especially winter walks to see the seals on Horsey beach, with a pub lunch to follow. I manage the lettings myself and take pride in what we have to offer. I love to welcome visitors to this area of Norfolk and am happy to provide any help or information you might need to ensure you have the best possible time while you are here.

Diane Le Grice purchased this apartment in 1970

Why Diane Le Grice chose Somerton

We love the peace and tranquility of the Norfolk countryside and it's coast. Here we have the best of both worlds. The house and adjoining holiday cottages are set amongst fields, yet the village of Winterton-on-Sea with it's well known dog friendly pub, beach cafe, P.O, fish and chip shop and wide sandy beach is only a ten minute walk along the bridle path that runs beside the garden. As a family we enjoy the fact that the beach, bird-watching, walks and cycling trails are on our doorstep. Although our home and holiday cottages are situated in an idyllic rural location, Norwich, National Trust properties, The Broads, tourist attractions and countless pretty Norfolk villages are easily reached by car.

What makes this apartment unique

The adjacent holiday cottages overlook a SSSI where many native and migratory birds can be seen - ideal for bird watchers and walkers. All have their own entrance and outside terrace as well as access to the large shared garden. Martin's Nest and Ladybird both sleep 2 and offer brilliantly designed studio accommodation all on one level. Big Sky sleeps 4 + and is light, airy and spacious. The large open plan area has comfortable dining/seating for 6. Two bunk beds, a garden room with day bed and a mezzanine sleeping gallery with queen size double bed offer flexible accommodation to suit a family or a group of friends. All properties are stylish and comfortable. There is ample room for parking and secure bicycle storage. A small child's ready bed, a travel cot and high chair are available free on request and a welcome tray is provided for guests on arrival.

Anniversary break

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Big Sky was superb. On arriving there was milk in the fridge and yummy brownies in a jar on the table. Diane called to make sure all was Ok, we were a trifle chilly, so she sorted the heating out for us. All in all a lovely quiet cottage in beautiful surroundings.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. I like to personally welcome guests in order to answer queries and do everything possible to ensure visitors have the best experience during their stay at Big Sky Cottages. More and more summer visitors are returning in winter to enjoy the peace and quiet, visit the seal colony and walk the empty beaches. Hope to see you both again. Diane

Owner's Response: We were very impressed and flattered when our visiting guest said his itinery was Paris/London/Newmarket and Big Sky Cottages, East Somerton, near Winterton on Sea! Although still a small Norfolk village with a pub, beach cafe, P.O. and Fish and chip shop, Winterton is becoming famous for it's wide sandy beaches, and people, especially those with dogs, return again and again. I've been told the dogs start to get excited and bark as the car makes the final turn into Manor Farm Road. After a busy tour of European cities our lovely guest wanted a few days peace and quiet to walk the beach and go birdwatching. I think he found the rural retreat he was looking for.

Ladybird cottage was so quaint and perfectly situated for the best of weekends.

Diane the host of ladybird cottage was so lovely, sharing her knowledge of the area and making our stay perfect with the small personal touches in our accomadation.

The walks around Winterton are dog perfect which made our pooches weekend.

The Broads are 5 mins away and were delightful with a Sunday lunch in one of the many fab pubs in the area.

Can't recommend these cottages highly enough. Will definitely visit again in the near future.

Owner's Response: Big Sky Cottages are fortunate to be situated in this rural location near the sea. The Dunes beach cafe and several pubs nearby, serve good quality food and are happy to welcome dogs. There is information in the Cottages regarding places to visit or just ask and we are more than willing to offer a suggestion or two. We really do our best to enable our guests to relax and enjoy their stay. Thank you for such a great review!

a wonderful accommodation for a restful break, a more friendly welcome you'll struggle to find anywhere. We'll definitely be back to re-visit, probably with extended family in the larger 'big sky' property next door.

The property was tastefully decorated, clean and full equipped

  • 5 of 5

We had a short but wonderful stay, which started with a warm welcome for our host Diana.

We particularly enjoyed the large and dog proof garden, which we luckily had sole use of for most of our stay. There's a great off road running/walking route down to the beach, where we enjoyed seeing the Little Terns nesting and grabbed a coffee at the beach cafe.

We will definitely book again but for a longer time.
