|Minimum Stay||5 - 7 nights|
Welcome to our quiet Spanish hideaway on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Las Estancias in the Almeria province of beautiful Andalucia. Just 10 minutes away from the lovely mountainside village of Oria with its basilica and quiet winding streets yet only 50 minutes away from bustling Garrucha and Mojacar on the coast, you can have the best of both quaint inland and coastal Spain from one location.
The various terraces afford you 360 degree views towards Albox in the south and to the mountains in the north. Surrounded by almond and olive groves, Villa Marco Carlos offers a holiday home from home that can be both quiet and relaxing for couples or full of fun and laughter for families. The villa is very private and well appointed, it is perfect for hosting just the two of you or larger families and groups of friends. Outdoor living and entertaining is well catered for with a number of covered dining areas and the built in barbeque. The private 10m swimming pool is equipped with sun loungers and a parasol as well as pool toys and other garden furniture. Situated to the west of the property the pool terrace benefits from many hours of sunshine each day. There is the added facility of a permanent gazebo that is used during the day for shade and, as evening comes, to watch the stunning sunsets that are a feature of the area.
The area around Oria and the mountains provide some great days out, visiting The National Park and the lovely towns of Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco will take you into the high pine forests with uncrowded hiking trails and picnic areas - take your own barbeque to La Piza and stop to see the prehistoric cave paintings at Los Letreros (maps and directions can be found in the Villa)
My wife and I took early retirement 7 years ago and during our holidays since then had been looking to purchase a holiday villa in southern Spain. We searched long and hard, making numerous trips to the region in both high and low season and never had a wet or cold day!!
We were both very much taken with the friendliness of both the local and "ex pat" communities in the area around Albox and the Almanzora valley. We discovered Villa Marco Carlos late in 2011 and began our purchase of it.
Since acquiring the property we have made a number of improvements to the pool and constructed a new gazebo and barbeque area and intened to carry on with a new laundry room, outside bar and ultimately a jacuzzi.
Edward Gregg-Rowbury purchased this villa in 2012
We fell for Villa Marco Carlos almost at first sight, the location, with its magnificent 360 degree views, its great atmosphere and of course, not forgetting the spacious 10m swimming pool.
We like tranquil holidays for ourselves and the villa certainly affords us this with the lovely views from the front terrace and newly built gazebo. When our extended family come to stay, there is enough space for everyone in and around the pool as well as indoors with our good size bedrooms and living area.
Being our second home, we have tried to equip the villa with all of the day to day requirements that make a villa holiday as relaxed and carefree as it should be, as well as trying to create a home from home atmosphere.
We enjoy most of all the tranquility that the mountainside location affords us. With its clear air and cooling breezes we live "al fresco" virtually all day. As evening falls the sunsets can be spectacular and both the front terrace and gazebo make ideal places to sit and relax to watch the free light show!
The area retains its "old Spanish" charm, the quiet town of Oria can provide all of our requirements if need be but we know the young ones appreciate larger Albox - a typical working Spanish town.
A number of tourist sites such as Mini Hollywood near Tabernas, the Med beaches and the wonderful Cabo de Gata National Park all help to provide us with a variety of things to do whenever we go. Of course, the Spainsh are also renowned for their fiestas where all are made most welcome
Thank you Janet and Ed for a fantastic stay at Casa Marco Carlos... The Villa location and facilities are amazing and we have thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed the peace and quiet of this beautiful place.
The Walls family
We´ve had a truly lovely stay at Casa Marco Carlos. The views are stunning and it has been peaceful and relaxing.... We would like to thank Ray and his wife for welcoming us on your behalf and for all his helpful hints.
Thank you Janet and Ed for an amazing stay in your Villa, the views are amazing and the peace and quiet is so nice.... The breezes that we had were a great relief due to the hot sun. We ventured into Albox a few times, it had all that we needed and the market on Tuesdays was fun to haggle with the stall holders. We enjoyed ourselves lots and would love to re-book for next year.
The Flower family
Your Villa, its garden, all of its amenities etc and pool were simply super. Lots of shade if you wanted it at any time of day and the mountain breezes are so acceptable...... The sunsets and views are simply amazing

Thank you very much Ed we had a very nice stay at your villa. Great weather, great villa and on our last night we had an amazing light show. Cheers once again for the great communication and a very nice holiday.
Brilliant experience from booking to check out. Ed was extremely helpful with providing all the information we needed prior to our stay and also information when we left. Very quick to respond on email which is a big weight off your mind when booking a villa abroad. Security deposit was also returned very promptly.
The villa itself was lovely and well appointed, even has an ice machine!!! Not seen one of them before! Everything you need is supplied. There are a couple of places to eat outside which was nice and plenty of seating and sunbeds. The villa is very rural so you are in the middle of nowhere - which we personally love - there isn't anything in walking distance. The town of Albox is about 20 minutes away. There is a big supermarket there which was great. There was a restaurant with good reviews on tripadvisor called La Cena .. unfortunately we didn't book so didn't get to sample their wears! So if you want to go there ... book first! Oria is nearer but we didn't actually go there as there isn't much there I don't think.
We had amazing weather and there was a lovely breeze all the time which was great. Beds were all comfortable and showers great. Always had hot water and there are ceiling fans too.
There is also a nice flat screen TV should you want to watch anything - it has a USB port too in case you want to watch any films - found that handy.
All in all a lovely break away which was very needed. Thanks Ed and also thanks to Ray who looks after the property and told us a great place to go and get free spring water .. great little find that.

We stayed in this beautiful Villa for 2 weeks. The villa had everything and more that we needed.
The pool was great fun. The views were absolutely beautiful.
We didn't realise just how far out it was. We got lost trying to find the villa and then got lost again trying to find our way back to the villa from getting our supplies from Albox.
The roads to the villa are single lane and very steep.
The shops were to far to just pop to if you had forgotten anything.
We couldn't go to the pub for a drink in the evening as it was to far away.
Everything was just to far out.
Car is definitely required.
But definitely worth it if you want to escape from everything.
Without the pool kids would have gone mad...(and us as well)
Thank you so much for the experience of your villa.
It was beautiful but just to far away from everything for us.
The Stephenson Family
We spent 6 weeks at this villa and found it very relaxing and peaceful. The countryside is lovely and we saw lots of birdlife around the villa. It is only 15 mins from a nearby town so not too isolated and there is a larger town about 25 mins drive away. The coast is around 1 hour and 15mins drive but with having the pool we didn't need to go there many times.
Everything was provided at the villa and we found the agent very helpful too when we had a couple of queries.
The Villa had everything needed to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Spotlessly clean , all home comforts, lovely garden and beautiful views. Pool in full sunshine all day but this time of the year too cold for a dip or to sunbathe. Well worth the money and a stay is highly recommended.
Villa Marco Carlos is a delight, set, as it is, amidst the almond growing area of Saliente Alto, Andalucia.
The villa is spacious, airy and bright. It is well maintained and features all home comforts. The pool area boasts a pergola, barbecue and numerous dining and lounging areas, brilliant for sun worshippers and shade seekers alike.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday and would definitely recommend Villa Marco Carlos."
The Rowlands family, Wirral.
we had a wonderful time in the villa everything you could possibly want or need very well equipped villa clean tidy and well maintained what you see in the pictures is what you get good customer service from the owners .ray who looks after the property along with his wife are both very helpful we would recommend this property to friends and family there are plenty of places to visit and many good bars and restaurants within a short drive
The Mediterranean beaches at Garrucha and Mojacar are no more than an hour away and the water park at Vera some 45mins away by car. Lying on the coast to north of the city of Almeria is the world heritage site of Cabo de Gata, offering magnificent coastal cliff views and stunning inland scenery where a wide variety of wildlife abounds. Located within the national park are a number of secluded little coves with crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches. O
Located mid way between Alicante to the northeast and Malaga to the southwest, the villa is accessible from both these larger regional airports as well as the smaller airports at Murcia and Almeria. Depending upon your choice of airport, a 1 - 2.5 hour drive will soon see you relaxing by the pool. Car hire is essential, or you could do as we have done and bring your own vehicle. We would be more than happy to advise on transfers and times; ferries, and car hire companies. Please ask.
12Km to the hamlet of Oria by car and 25km to larger Albox. The beautiful monastery of Saliente with stunning views over the Almanzora valley is about 25km away
The beautiful little hamlet of Oria (10mins) has a couple of small supermarkets; bank, butchers etc and fresh baked bread can be obtained at the filling station. One or two restaurants can be found on the way into the center with its lovely tree lined square and basilica – a small market is held here each Sunday morning.
The bustling town of Albox is a 20min drive away, a larger and very popular market is held around the Mayor’s Square each Tuesday. This extends to stalls sited throughout the old town selling all manner of fresh produce. There are lots of pavement bars and cafés where cold drinks and tapas are always available at very reasonable prices. (In 2014 we paid for a large beer 2€, a coffee 1€, a glass of wine 1.5€). Three large supermarkets are located in the new town as well as filling stations, banks and other specialty shops. Parking in Albox is plentiful and much of it free!!
To the north of Arroyo de Medina you will find some stunning views from the terrace of the Monastery at Saliente, as well as a very nice panoramic restaurant. Just off the main Granada road there are two spectacular National Park areas as well as the pretty towns of Chirivel and Velez Rubio. The city of Granada with the imposing Alhambra Palace is only 2 hours away and makes for an ideal day trip. Access to the Sierra Nevada ski area is close by and popular through January February and March.
Golf is available nearby at the Desert Springs Resort, Valle de Est and Marina Golf courses. More details are available and introductions can be made if required - please ask.
A visit to the world heritage site of Cabo de Gata, to take in its magnificent coastal cliff views and stunning inland scenery will take you on a very scenic drive indeed. Passing through Olula del Rio, the road take you through and over the fabulous scenery seen from the front terrace of the villa. Passing Mount Tetica; the highest peak in the region, you drop down and pass Mini Hollywood near the town of Tabernas, made famous in the production of many “spaghetti and paella” westerns including; A Fist Full of Dollars and a Few Dollars More. Here you can spend time on the recreated sets and see live shows where the likes of Clint Eastwood and Yul Brynner once filmed.
