This spacious, sunny and comfortably furnished single storey house is set on a south-facing hillside in the heart of this wine-growing region. From the large secluded terrace there are magnificent panoramic views over vineyards and the Languedoc plain to the Mediterranean in the distance. The tiled pool (8 x 4 metres, 1.7 metres deep) is one step down from the side of the terrace in the charming natural garden. A 5 minute walk along a track beside the vines leads to the centre of the medieval village of Faugeres. Here there is a delightful café/restaurant where you can buy bread and croissants. On Wednesdays various stall holders visit, including a quality butcher and an excellent cheese stall. The road to the village, and on to Pezenas, runs above and behind the house. There is a choice of supermarkets within easy reach by car and a good variety of restaurants.

About Sue and Geoff Hardcastle
Sue and Geoff retired, from university administration and teaching respectively, some 12 years ago. We had spent several holidays in the region and liked the warmth, peace and friendliness. When we retired we began looking for a house of our own.
Sue and Geoff Hardcastle purchased this Villa in 2003
Why Sue and Geoff Hardcastle chose Faugères
After much searching we settled on the village of Faugeres. We fell in love with the view from the hillside where the house is set, bought the plot and built the house. There were more practical reasons for our choice: the ease of access by road and air; the closeness of good shops; the short journey to safe, sandy beaches - important for the grandchildren; the walks through the vines or in the hills, for the more senior members of our family; having a cafe virtually on the doorstep was a bonus.
What makes this Villa unique
We are fortunate in having marvellous neighbours. The nearest, who are British and who will see guests into the house, are a mine of information and local knowledge and are very helpful. We have tried to make the house a comfortable home: we hope guests will feel we have succeeded.

Family holiday in a lovely villa
Three generations of our family from 21 years upwards all enjoyed our stay in this well equipped, comfortable villa with its magnificent views. We enjoyed our meals on the terrace looking out over lovely country side so much that we didn't bother to go out for any meals.
Thank you. We are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Super stay in Faugeres
We had a super stay in Geoff and Sue's Villa in Faugeres. Booking and communication was very smooth and easy. We were welcomed by a very gracious Paul, a neighbour, who showed us around. Waiting for us were some lovely local treats which was a very nice surprise. The villa was well stocked with many of the basics that you need (and more than others we have stayed at over the years). The layout is neat and tidy. The kitchen is well equipped, opening onto the patio with wonderful views of the vineyards to the south. The large main bedroom / ensuite, which has two double windows again with wonderful views to the south and a third double door to the patio. The other bedrooms are perfect size for adults or children. The pool was perfect for us. It not a heated pool yet the temperature was over 25 C during the day and into the evening which made for very pleasant swimming. The local village is less than 5 mins walk by footpath and has a lovely restaurant, a weekly market and mobile butcher. The main supermarkets can be found within 10 mins drive to Bedarieux in the north or Magalas to the south. The whole area is surrounded by lovely vineyards, great views and lovely walks. Would very much recommend this villa.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. That's important to us. We hope you are able to come again.
Great family holiday
We enjoyed a two-week summer holiday with our two teenage children in this modern, airy, well-equipped house in the village of Faugeres. The house had everything we needed and was very clean and uncluttered. The master bedroom is particularly spacious with wonderful views and the ensuite has a good shower. We ate all our meals on the terrace, though there is a good-sized dining table in the kitchen.
The house is in a great location and there is plenty to do in the area. We went to the beach a number of times, took a couple of good mountain walks, spent a day at the Gorges d’Heric, which has lots of freshwater pools, and canoed on the Orb. There is a pleasant walk to the three old windmills above Faugeres village. The Roman Amphitheatre at Nimes is spectacular and worth the 1.5 hour drive to get there. We visited the town of Pézenas which has an historical center with beautiful architecture and many individual craft shops and brocante shops. We were all happy to spend some days lazing at the house and pool.
We’d definitely recommend the villa and area.
A French home from home
We had a wonderful stay in Faugeres and would warmly recommend Geoff and Sue's villa for a couple or a family looking for a peaceful holiday in glorious French countryside.
The swimming pool was great and the views from the terrace and pool across to the Mediterranean were sublime. It was well situated for trips to Montpellier (under an hour), Beziers (25mins) and Narbonne (45mins), and we enjoyed visiting a number of small towns within a half-hour drive ... Pezenas on Saturday market day (and not on market day) is lovely. And the wine was excellent and plentiful!
We had some unusually wet days but, helped by the house being stocked with a large supply of books and DVDs, it did not affect the holiday.
This was a real home from home with high quality decor and all mod cons - we wouldn't change a thing. Thank you Geoff and Sue.
This hillside villa on the edge of the village of Faugeres has been a lovely holiday base for us, with panoramic views over vineyards to the Med in the distance. The villa itself is plentifully equipped and comfortable and English-speaking friendly advice is on hand. This is a scenic and interesting area to explore. We should also mention the beautiful pool and an excellent winery just up the road.
We had a lovely time in Faugeres. the house was comfortable and well appointed with everything we could need. It was cleaned beautifully and a lovely bottle of wine for our arrival.
The owners communicated well with us before our holiday and someone was there to meet us with the keys.
I would recommend this place with it's lovely views and a great location for exploring the area.
Thank you, Rachel, for taking the time to review our house - and, of course, thank you for the positive comments. Geoff H
The coast, with its long stretches of gently shelving, clean golden sand, is a 35 minute drive and there is a wide choice of unspoilt beaches within easy reach. .
Air: Beziers-Cap d'Agde is the nearest (Ryanair) 35 minutes by car. Carcassonne, Perpignan, and Montpelier are all within a 90 minute drive.
Rail: there is a direct TGV train to Beziers from Lille or Paris. Using Eurostar to Lille, change platforms; to Paris, change station.
Road: excellent road access. By motorway A75 to Clermont Herault, then D908/D909 via Bedarieux. By motorway A9 to Beziers, then D909.
A car is necessary as public transport is limited.
The centre of Faugeres is a 10 minute walk along the vineyard lane. Bedarieux, the nearest town, is a 10 minute drive, Beziers 30 minutes by car.
From the house there are some lovely walks through the vines or up into the hills. The beautiful, wild countryside of the Cevennes and the mountains of the Espinouse are a short drive away. The Pyrenees, the tops of which can sometimes be seen from the terrace, are a 2 hour drive.
The area offers a host of places to visit: the citadel of Carcassonne; Cathar castles, perched high on precipitous hills; abbeys nestling in wooded valleys; the ancient coastal towns of Sete and Agde; historic Aigues-Mortes and the flamingoes of the Camargue; the Gorge d'Heric and the ravine at Minerve; the Canal du Midi. The Roman amphitheatres at Arles and Nimes and the Pont du Gard aqueduct are an easy day trip away.
There are tennis courts in the village, and opportunities for kayaking, for all levels, along the river Orb.
For lovers of seafood there is the unforgettable experience of sitting at one of the many little waterside restaurants in the fishing village of Bouzigues with a platter of oysters, mussels and other shell fish fresh-harvested from the etang. But there is a wide choice of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets; and, of course, endless opportunities to visit the area's chateaux and caves to sample their various wines.
There are a number of supermarkets within easy reach by car, the nearest being 10 minutes away. More interesting are the local village and town markets, most notably the Saturday market in the old, walled town of Pezenas, well known for its antique shops which also houses a host of boutiques and art galleries in its narrow, cobbled streets.
