Overlooking the glorious Painswick Valley Barncastle is an amazing and breathtaking place to stay. Awarded with a Gold Star for its exceptionally high standard which we constantly maintain. Barncatle is within easy reach of Cheltenham Spa renown for its thriving arts centre, jazz and classical music, literature festivals and then of course the restaurants and the races making an excellent day out. The beautiful Cotswold towns of Cirencester, Bibury, Stow on the Wold, Broadway Oxford and Shakespeare country of Stratford on Avon are within easy driving distance. Numerous country pursuits are available nearby including riding, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, golf, dry ski slopes and water parks at South Cerney making this an idyllic family holiday location.

About Valerie King

I am a farmers wife and been married for almost 30 years with four grown up sons. My Grandparents bought the farm in Wragg Castle Lane when they first got married over a hundred years ago and thefefore my mother, my brother and I were born there. My mother lived there for 85 years and now we continue to farm the land and have made a business from the buildings. Ten years ago I decided to convert dad's barn which used to keep his tractor and cows in into a holiday home which is now Barncastle and has been awarded a Gold award. In January this year we finished converting dad's milking parlor into Barncottage which has turned out outstanding. I live not far away and love having my many visitors who come to stay at these two fabulous properties surrounded by so many memories.

Why Valerie King chose Gloucester

My mother gave me my barn and the cowshed many years ago. As a child the barn was filed with young calves and the cowshed was where my father used to milk his cows. They stayed empty for many years until I got planning permission and converted them into two beautiful holiday cottages.

As a child I loved my home and spent endless days with my ponies and dogs in the most beautiful beautiful and breathtaking area of the Cotswolds.

Today I still find my old home wonderful and the views over the Painswick valley from the garden are totally breathtaking. There is nowhere like it and my guests who come to Barncastle agree and love it to.

What makes this barn unique

Barncastle and Barncottage are situated in a peaceful country lane but with neighbours closeby.

The Cotswold village of Painswick is approximately one mile away within walking distance for a paper. Stroud is a approximately 2 miles with railway station and three large supermarkets. Historic Gloucester and the Spa town of Cheltenham are also very near by.

Barncastle is very centrally positioned. London can be reached within 1 - 2 hours. Devon and Cornwall can be reached within a 1 - 2 hours and also North Wales and the North of England can be reached quite easily. A very central area for miles to reunite for celebrations and family reunions.

Barncastle is situated on the Cotswold Way and is surrounded by outstanding countryside and woodlands for walking with nature and wildlife.

Notes on accommodation: Barncastle has access incorporates steps at all entrances. The large oak beamed dining room with a wood burning stove, dining table that seats ten and an oak floor throughout. The kitchen is spacious well equipped and fitted with an electric range, flagstone floor, dishwasher and large American fridge. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Bedrooms consist of room 1 - 5 ft bed with en suite Victorian bathroom, room 2 - twin bedded neighbouring bathroom, room 3 5 ft bed bathroom adjacent with shower and toilet, room 4 double room also adjacent to shower and toilet and room 5 double room with adjacent bathroom with bath shower and toilet. All bedrooms are furnished and have beamed sloping ceilings. The staircase leads up to spaciously beamed living area with large with 50" sky tv, open fire, oak flooring again throughout. The open gallery has a sofa bed and a children’s area tv dvds and children’s books. Barncottage has a beautiful glass sitting room, dining rooms. Outside: Large enclosed garden with breathtaking views across the valley. Garden table and chairs, sun loungers and a bbq to enjoy sunny afternoons.
