Pear Tree Cottage

This 'upside down' house has slate floors on the ground floor with two large, comfortable bedrooms - one king-size double and one twin with curtains and blinds on the windows. Fully tiled bathroom with electric shower over the bath and wc, deep freeze and washer/dryer in under-stairs cupboards. Upstairs the open plan area has lovely exposed beams, a sitting, dining and kitchen area with views over the garden and countryside from all sides. Exposed brickwork on one wall, recessed lighting on dimmer switches and comfortable sofas and chairs make for a very relaxed setting. Sitting area with flatscreen tv, sky sport and film packages, internet access, freeview, DVD. Kitchen area with integral electric oven and fridge, electric hob, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and many useful extras. Regret no pets and no smoking in the cottage.

About the property


Hornbeam and Pear Tree Cottages, renovated to an excellent standard, form the wing of a 17th century/medieval Somerset longhouse with a working farm next door. Cosy but modern open plan living accommodation in both cottages.

Pear Tree Cottage (sleeping 4) has its own private terrace with a HOT TUB for sole use by guests in this cottage. It is surrounded by flowers and a rose hedge with a dining table and chairs and subdued lighting for evening use. This 'upside down' house has a huge comfortable living room with exposed beams on the first floor with a dining area and fully equipped kitchen with integrated dishwasher, fridge, freezer, electric cooker and microwave. Downstairs there are two spacious bedrooms, one with a king size bed, a twin bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom is fully tiled with an electric shower, shaver point and heated radiator. Both bedrooms and the bathroom have under floor heating. Also on the ground floor is a washing machine with integrated dryer and another deepfreeze, hidden from view in cupboards under the stairs. Fast internet access, SKY Sports and Film packages, Freeview TV, DVD all available.

Garage available with ample parking in private drive.

Hornbeam Cottage (sleeping 8) has an additional small 2nd floor sitting room with TV, Freeview, DVD, adjacent to a king-size double bedroom and en suite fully tiled bathroom with electric shower, perfect for getting away from the children downstairs! Sky Sport and Film packages, fast internet access and another TV on the ground floor seating area. The well equipped kitchen has a double oven electric cooker, microwave, integrated fridge and freezer, white wine fridge, dishwasher. Downstairs cloakroom and cupboard with washing machine/dryer and an extra deep freeze.

On the first floor there are three bedrooms - one twin overlooking the front terrace and lawn, a double overlooking the back garden and a small double room furnished with a full size 3ft single bed with an additional bed, also 3ft which can be pulled out and used if 2 children want to share. The bed, fully pulled out becomes a super king size 6ft bed but is still more suitable for children in the party. A large, fully tiled family bathroom has a hand held shower in the bath and a separate walk in shower. The first floor landing is very large and is another place where children can play away from their parents.

Outside there is a private patio with dining table and chairs, barbecue, lawn and paddock for sole use of guests in Hornbeam Cottage. Garage available with ample parking in private drive.

Hornbeam Cottage sleeps 8 maximum. However, if a smaller group would like to book then we can tailor the rate to suit the number of people wishing to occupy Hornbeam Cottage at any one time.

Notes on accommodation: We regret that neither cottage is suitable for wheelchair access. However, both cottages can be booked together to accommodate larger family groups (12 maximum) for Christmas/New Year family get-togethers etc. On the Friday changeover day both cottages are thoroughly cleaned, beds made up for the next group. Linen and towels are provided. Regret no pets and no smoking. Outside: Hornbeam and Pear Tree Cottages both have a patio, outdoor furniture, barbecue. Lawn and one acre paddock for children to play in. Secure area bounded by a double five-bar gate to the lane and hedges all around.

North Petherton has an excellent farm shop on the outskirts of the village towards the M5 junction 24 called Mr Carrots. Pyne's of Somerset butchers are opposite selling excellent meat, deli, fish, award winning pork pies and sausages, barbecue packs, Christmas hampers etc and will deliver (01278 663050). Very good Tesco Direct in North Petherton. Church, post office and cash machines in North Petherton. All supermarkets in Bridgwater and Taunton town centre and at M5 junction 25. Waitrose at Wellington, M5 J26.

Enmore Inn, Enmore 3 miles distant - very popular with our holiday guests as good value and family friendly. Numerous pubs on the nearby Quantock Hills and Somerset Levels, Spice Gallery Indian restaurant in North Petherton.

Glastonbury and Wells and Clarks Shopping Village at Street.
