About Pippa Mackie

Pippa lives in Surrey - so counts as a 'Down For the Weekender' at the moment, but hopes to retire to Deal which is where her heart is....

Pippa Mackie purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Pippa Mackie chose Kent

Pippa bought Dragon Cottage in 2004 and, as a dog owner is happy for you to bring your well behaved dog to the cotage. All the family love Dragon and we hope you find it as relaxing and restorative as we all do.

What makes this cottage unique

The dog walks and the lively artistic community with exhibitions and live music going on are a fantastic escape from the hurly burly of work life. On arrival, the car is parked and everything is then in easy walking reach - wonderful. The shops are a great mix of known high street brands like Marks and Spencers and quirky local shops like Allotment, The Bake House, Peppers and Carried Away. There is a fantastic choice of places to eat and drink - all nearby and, of course, the sea is on our doorstep

River trips from Sandwich quay to the ruins make for a delightful afternoon's adventure.

Thre is a wide range of cuisine locally including, Thai, Indian, Chinese, French, and, of course, Fish and Chips! There are 13 pubs within 10 minutes walk - many of which have live music each week. The pier boasts an architectural award winning restaurant and the Band Stand at Walmer gives a traditional experience to those who like brass bands on a Sunday afternoon with an ice cream cone from the travelling Solleys Ice Cream vendor. The Astor Community Theatre has a fascinating range of performances including some real 'blast from the past' music as well as contemporary work. A lovely cottage in a wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

Dragon Cottage is charming, immaculately presented and cosy. It's location is idyllic, being in the heart of the Deal conservation area, literally a few minutes from the beach in one direction and a short walk to the high street and all its facilities in the other. The family and I always look forward to a visit to Dragon Cottage.

Lovely time

  • 5 of 5

We felt like at home

  • 5 of 5

Lovely furnished with every conceivable amenity. A wonderful hamper welcame us. Very attentive hosts, we felt being very welcome. The cottage is ideally located between Beach and High Street with all its shops, pubs, churches. Romantic garden with fragrant roses. A tiny little drop of bitterness was the mattresses hardness in the smaler bedroom but the bed in the larger bedroom is very, very comfortable!

a beautiful cottage. very well maintained and furnished. everything you need for a lovely stay.

  • 5 of 5

Dragon Cottage was a delightful place to stay. It is a lovely property in a superb location. The cottage is full of lovely furniture and very comfortable and well equipped. The property is very well maintained. A big plus was the courtyard with garden furniture ,a relaxing place to sit in the sun surrounded by flowering shrubs and roses. The owners very generously provide a welcome hamper which is full of goodies; jams, a variety of teabags and coffees, biscuits etc. In the bathroom there is a box to toiletries to use. Another special touch was various vases of fresh flowers left in the rooms.

The property is in a very quiet place although very central to Deal High Street. There is a great fish and chip shop literally 2 minutes walk away.

Everything provided was in superb condition. I loved being provided with a fluffy white towelling bath robe. Lots of DVDs and books are also available.

The only fault, which is not major, is the lack of a washing machine.

If the opportunity arose I would definitely go back for another stay and would not hesitate to recommend Dragon Cottage to anyone.

The courtyard garden does look gorgeous at the moment and the fragrance of the jasmine was wafting in as we were setting things up for you..

Lovely cottage in a quiet and historic area

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very clean and was big enough for four people. Very tastefully decorated and with all mod cons! Provided was a good welcome pack and toiletries; also information on the local area. It was very close to the town centre and all amenities. It was on a very quiet road that had much historical interest and was a street away from the seafront. There were lots of nice restaurants and pubs nearby, as well as a fish and chip shop. We had one of the best meals ever at one of the recommended restaurants. Deal is a nice town with lots of interesting shops and two supermarkets. There is a castle and museums. We visited other places locally such as Dover and the White Cliffs, Folkestone, Sandwich and Cambridge. Rail links are good from Deal. The owners responded quickly to emails and were very helpful. As a bonus the weather was really good. All in all a good holiday, thanks.
