Spacious house set in a nice village, not far from Scarborough & good to use as a base to explore

  • 3 of 5

I think a little more attention to detail could have been given to the cleaning of the property, in certain places it was dusty & cobwebs were present. It would have been nice to have some info on how to use the electric oven & also how to get the central heating to come on when it turned cold. Also some info on the village & surrounding area would have been helpful. The wi-fi in the house had a good reception. There are 2 pubs in the village the Nags Head is a friendly local serving drinks only, there is a monthly themed food evening which is held I think on the first Wednesday of every month. The other pub in the village, which does serve food is the Plough, we didn't try this pub as it was pricey for food. We did however try & highly recommend the Oakwheel pub in Burniston for food, reasonably priced & good quality home cooked food, we ate there 2 evenings out of our 4 night stay. Their steak night was very good value & our steaks were cooked to perfection. I think anyone staying at the property would benefit from having a car, there is a bus service but I don't think this runs late into the evening. If you're into music then check out in advance what's on at the open air theatre in Scarborough, its attracting some big names (we saw Cliff Richard as my mum's a fan) the Kaiser Chiefs played there recently & in the next few weeks I think there's Tom Jones, Little Mix, Olly Murs & some other big names playing. We all really enjoyed our stay even though the weather wasn't very good & all said we would stay at the property again despite the earlier comments about the cleaning issues. In a nutshell the property is spacious & well equipped, in a quiet village with great places to see on your doorstep.

Not suitable for pets.

Spacious comfortable and clean house in quiet village. We had our dog with us and left her in the back garden one day while we were out. I had spoke to the owner on the phone about leaving the dog at the premises. I complied with his wishes not to leave the dog in the house when we were not there. However the back yard was not properly secured and she escaped. A very kind couple found her and brought her to a shelter. She was almost knocked down on the road outside the house. We were unable to collect her until the next morning. We were shocked when we had to pay £52 before they released her. I was very angry as I felt that the house was advertised as pet friendly but the facility to keep her secure was not suitable. So if you plan on taking your dog with you this premises is not suitable. Also the back garden has no grass, it is all concreted in and needs to be cleaned. The garden furniture was dirty and the whole back yard, not what I'd call a garden was too dirty to sit in.

The location was lovely and so peaceful, the layout of the cottage was perfect and the facilities were great and would have been great for if it was raining as well as there was plenty of space.

The cottage was lovely and clean and very comfortable, the back garden was lovely and private.

I would defiantly recommend this cottage to friends and family and I intend to go myself next year.

We enjoyed the local pubs, we enjoyed walking round the village it was very peaceful and we drove into Scarborough and Whitby.

Owner's Response: I am very pleased that this party found Hiawatha so to their liking. I look forward to seeing them again in 2014.
