Penny purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Penny chose Hartland
We came to live in North Devon via Surrey and Malaysia. We love the peace and quiet of West Staddon, the proximity to an incredibly beautiful coastline, the sea views from our house and garden, and being part of Hartland's interesting and diverse community.

Lovely cottage to explore North Devon coast
The cottage was comfortableft, well kitted out with everything you neef for a long or short stay. The peaceful and beautiful surroundings were fabulous to wake up to and in the evenings after a day out. . Penny the host was friendly yet unobtrusive and we very much enjoyed the local eggs and lemon drizzle cake left for us. A great Base to explore the north Devon coast.
Peaceful stay in a lovely corner of Devon
A comfortable house in a very quiet location, down a track off a country lane. It is spacious and well equipped, especially the kitchen. The woodburning stove and conservatory are great if the weather is cool or wet. Lots of local information in the house and Penny is on hand for further recommendations. This is an ideal spot for walking, close to the southwest coast path but also near surfing beaches, swimming and local towns.
Relaxing and quiet stay
Very well equipped cottage. Very comfortable stay. Good location for cliff top walks. Lots of birds to spot on the coast and at the cottage. Easy access to local amenities. Hartland village has good eateries and only 3 mins away. Owner’s house is nearby and very welcoming. Definitely thinking of returning sometime.
LOVELY HOMELY COTTAGE
WE STAYED AT THIS COTTAGE FOR 2 NIGHTS, PENNY MADE US FEEL WELCOME, IT IS SITUATED IN A NICE QUIET AREA , WE GO TO CORNWALL AND DEVON ALOT BUT THIS WAS ONE OF THE NICEST PLACES WE HAVE STAYED AND WILL DEFINATLY BE BACK.
A comfortable warm clean cottage in a pretty peaceful location, ideally located to explore the area.
The Shippen was a very lucky find for a two night stay whilst house hunting in the area. Despite allowing dogs; we brought our two springers, the property was spotless and lovingly maintained. A welcome site was a ready laid fire with plenty of dry wood, together with underfloor heating, it made for a very comfortable stay. Thoughtful touches included a pint of milk and homemade cake awaiting us. Our one regret was that our stay was so short. We would love to return and stay longer. A very peaceful, special place and one to recommend. Thank you Penny and Hubby.
