We believe we have managed to do what many people dream of doing - our own escape to the country! We escaped from the rat race of crowded suburbia, having fallen in love with Beeson Farm, an historic, disused and derelict Devon farm nestling in a wonderfully tranquil valley less than a mile from a wonderful, unspoilt beach. We are a family run business and are delighted to offer you beautifully restored cottages which have retained their character whilst providing every comfort. We have achieved AA 4 stars rating and recommendations from the Guardian, Express and Woman magazine. Our environmental efforts have resulted in being awarded a Gold Green Tourism Award.
We offer a range of quality accommodation which is child friendly, dog welcome or pet & feather free and wheelchair accessible. We look forward to welcoming you to our corner of Devon.
We can now also offer you our beautiful, fully equipped, architect designed villa in Kastellos near Rethymnon, Crete. It is most wonderfully and privately located with stunning views of the Aegean Sea and White Mountains, has 3 bedrooms, 3 bath/shower rooms, fully equipped kitchen, lounge, entrance vestibule and a large swimming pool with roman steps. There is a very attractive pool area with BBQ and pool house which contains a kitchenette and shower room so you don't need to go into the villa when you are settled next to the pool. The villa is surrounded by extensive grounds containing trees, shrubs and pretty flower beds.
Louise Cross purchased this cottage in 1997
Beeson Farm is in an idyllic, peaceful, sheltered South Devon valley. Less than a mile from Beesands beach (with great pub and seafood cafe) we are an ideal base for those wishing to explore the SW coastpath, with its lovely beaches and coves. The local beaches are perfect for swimming, surfing, kayaking and fishing, or for quiet picnics. Although we are in a quiet village- all you can hear are the birds and the occasional tractor, we are not remote - the villages of Stokenham and Chillington with village shops, farm shop, great pubs, bus service and the A379 Dartmouth to Plymouth road is less than 2 miles away. The interesting historic towns of Kingsbridge (7 miles) and Dartmouth (8 miles) offer banks, supermarkets and lots of independent and boutique shops. Many wonderful NT houses and gardens are nearby including Greenway (Agatha Christie's house & garden on the banks of the river Dart). Dartmoor is within easy reach for day trips. We hope to welcome you to our delightful corner of Devon.
Being less than a mile from the beach at Beesands we are ideally situated for walking, spending quality family time on the beach, rockpooling, crabbing and of course swimming in the sea! Children (and adults too!) can play in our play area in the orchard and play table tennis in our games room. We have a badminton net on the lawn in the summer and offer supervised pond dipping in our fenced wildlife pond in the school holidays. There are lovely local green lane and coast path walks, bird spotting, diving, surfing, kayaking, sailing and of course, swimming.
Popular days out include steam railways, boat trips, Paignton Zoo, Plymouth's National Marine Aquarium, Dartmoor and visitor attractions like Woodlands Adventure Park and Pennywell Farm.
At night you can enjoy a superb meal of locally sourced food at one of our local pubs or enjoy a BBQ and star gaze from your patio.
We loved our stay at Beeson Farm with our four year old daughter and 17 month old son. The cottage was perfect for our needs with an ensuite bathroom for the twin room. The courtyard area outside our cottage became a safe playground for our children and the other children staying in the other cottages. The play area was great to burn off some energy before bedtime or play first thing in the morning. The owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable and make lovely cider! The farm is located as a good base for exploring nearby beaches and places of interest too. We hope to book another trip if we can face the dreaded M5 again!!
We had a wonderful stay in the Bull House. My two young children loved the play area and fed the chickens and Guinea pigs every day! The owners Veronica and Robin are so friendly and happy to help. We have had two holidays at the Bull House and will be back for our third holiday.
Clean and well appointed. Welcoming helpful hosts. Beautiful area - excellent local farm shop. Have no hesitation in returning and recommending to anyone else.
I am an honest man so I'll say it the way it is but I have a small worry that if these glorious cottages receive all the accolades they deserve, they might become so popular that there'll be no vacancies the next time that i want to visit!
I am fairly familiar with the West Country but not this little corner of it tucked away to the West of Exeter; I have never visited anywhere closer than Tavistock and Burgh Island so when a late opportunity arose for me to accompany a couple of dear friends on a break to Beeson Farm Cottages, I jumped at the opportunity - what a good decision!
The first challenge is to find the entrance to the car park - do not be misled by the narrow entry between two buildings with a low concrete post blocking the way - but once located, one immediately gets the impression of well ordered peace and quiet. Veronica and Robin, who have spent the last seventeen years tastefully restoring and modifying the various farm buildings, will probably soon find new arrivals and give them a warm and friendly welcome plus an introduction to the facilities; which, I have to say are impressively comprehensive and comfortable.
Previous on-line research will give the visitor an accurate idea of what to expect and I'd be surprised if anyone would find the facilities lacking in any way - it's that comprehensive, to the point that once unpacked, it isn't long before it starts feeling like home! There is plenty to occupy the children and many country and coastal walks to enjoy, lunches in lovely little village hostelries and more excellent restaurants than you can shake a mackerel at. Add to this river trips, steam train rides, near empty beaches, stunning views, interesting historic towns to explore, et al and you'll soon be surprised to find that it's nearly time to go home. We were lucky enough to be able to add a few days to our planned stay - it was that good, in fact probably one of the best holidays of its type for very many years. As the Big Man said - "I'll be back!"
Local sandy beaches ideal for small children are Great Mattiscombe Sands, Lannacombe, Rickham, Mill Bay and Sunny Cove. All are a short drive away.
Local pebbly beaches include Beesands ( 15 minutes walk ), Hallsands, Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands. Further afield are Bantham and Bigbury beaches and Burgh Island - 30 to 45 minutes by car.
Ideal surfing beaches are Lannacombe, Bigbury and Bantham.
Tide timetables are provided. Beaches with lots of amenities include Blackpool Sands and Bigbury.
Mainline stations at Totnes 35 minutes and Plymouth one hours drive. Airport at Exeter 70 minutes drive. We are situated 2 kms from the bus route which runs between Dartmouth and Plymouth. A car is recommended but there are many possibilities for car free days out.
Beesands, a quiet fishing village with pub, fresh fish shop/café and coast path is 1 km away. Stokenham and Chillington villages are approximately 2 km distance and offer pubs/restaurants, and farm shop. The picturesque towns of Dartmouth 12 km, Kingsbridge 11 km, Salcombe 19 km, and Totnes 25 km all have a fantastic selection of small traditional independent shops and have very distinctive characters. The historic port of Plymouth with its famous Barbican, Hoe and harbour is an hours drive.
Supermarkets and banks are in Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. Plymouth and Exeter offer a huge range of shops. See "The Area" on our website for a more detailed description of our local and wider area e.g. large selection of NT houses and gardens, steam railways, boat trips, boat hire, National Marine Aquarium at Plymouth, Paignton Zoo, Woodlands Adventure Park, Pennywell Farm etc.
