About Hilary Collins
I live in France and Scotland with my husband and 2 teenage sons. We built the house and still work and live here. We love the tranquillity of the area mixed with the ability to be in bustling Aix in a few minutes.
Hilary Collins purchased this Villa in 1993
Why Hilary Collins chose Puyloubier
We love Vauvenargues because of the fantastic scenery in the area. It is twenty minutes from Aix en Provence with its wonderful Provençal markets and restaurants. The area is easily accessible with Marseilles airport 40 minutes hours drive away.
What makes this Villa unique
Unique benefits of the property The villa is suitable for an extended family with 2 of the bedrooms in the ground floor annexe, attached to the villa but with a seperate entrance. The property is in peaceful countryside looking onto Mount St Victoire which was painted by Cezanne and Château Picasso is in the centre of the village. There are plenty of mapped walks to take advantage of around St Victoire.

Beautiful and relaxing with stunning views
The property met and exceeded our expectations. It was beautifully furnished and well-equipped yet informal enough not to worry about the kids damaging things. It was clean and well-maintained with the owners calling by to clean the pool at regular intervals during our stay. They were very friendly and helpful at all times, suggesting good places to visit etc. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday spent mostly by the pool enjoying the stunning views of Monte Sainte Victoire. Highlights were walking to the top of Monte Sainte Victoire and visits to Aix-en-Provence, the Aqueduc de Roquefavour and Le Glacier in Miramas le Vieux for amazing ice cream sundaes! We would love to return one day.
We are so pleased you really enjoyed your holiday. The views from Mount St Victoire are truly incredible aren't they. We hope to be able to welcome you again.
Fantastic Property - Views.....!!!!
When we arrived after a stressful but relatively short trip from Lyon, what we were greeted with was, quite simply, a breath taking view and a wonderful property. The differentiating factors for us were the annex, which enabled our four teenagers to have their own area, the view and most importunately the fact that you were staying in someone’s home rather than a generic standard holiday home; we loved the idiosyncratic nature of the interior design not particularly French but in keeping with the accommodation. There are several good day trips in the surrounding area but we found the property so comfortable that it was difficult to leave the pool and the kids got full value from Netflix. We would thoroughly recommended this property to anyone wishing to get away from it all and wanting to stay in a wonderfully equipped accommodation with fantastic mountain views, unsurpassed in any of our other 10 years visiting a plethora of places throughout France.
I'm so pleased you had a great time. It has always been a privilege for us to look out on Mount St Victoire and the mountain range that Cezanne spent his life painting! You were fantastic guests!
Great holiday home in secluded location
We used this villa for an extended family holiday bringing together three generations. The villa is situated in a stunning location with maginificent views across the valley to Mont St Victoire. The weather was very hot so the excellent pool provided the centre for most of our activities. Al fresco dining on the terrace was also a great opportunity for the family to get together.
The villa is very well equipped for a large group - the rooms are all spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished.
The location is secluded and not overlooked, but there are other properties in the area. The Spar supermarket in Vauvenargues (about ten minutes drive from the house) is well stocked with essential items, but to visit a more substantial supermarket is a twenty minute drive away.
We tried two excellent restaurants in the vicinity but mainly eat at home and used the gas barbecue on a number of occasions.
The owner and her husband were at the property to meet us when we arrived and made us feel very welcome. They were anxious that we made full use of the facilities and it was a pleasure to share their home for two weeks.
Thankyou so much for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed the villa and the pool.
Spacious house, stunning views
We were a family group ranging in age from 7 to 79 and the house was perfect for all of us. The large, very well-equipped kitchen and adjacent outdoor eating area was perfect for mealtimes, and the rest of the day was usually spent in or around the pool. The view really is amazing. Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, and there were plenty of bathrooms for all eight of us. It's a little way out of the (lovely) village, where there is a small shop, but there is also a decent Carrefour 15 minutes away in Rians, if you can't be bothered to drive to Aix. We loved it, well worth the trip all the way from Australia, and we would certainly consider staying again!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments but more importantly we are so pleased that you enjoyed the villa so much you would consider staying again. Thank you also for taking such care of the villa.
Modern well equipped villa with stunning views
Truly amazing Villa. Set high in the mountains, scenery around the the villa & pool side is spectacular. The property has everything you would want & need. Kitchen was really well equipped. Satellite TV kept us & kids evening's entertained, especially with the the Olympics on! Owners, Hilary & Eshan, are very friendly and looked after us very well. Kids spent all day in the lush pool, with the stunning back drop of the moutain. Highly recommend the stay here, small town with a Spar and a fantastic pizza Restuarant nearby (Chez La Garde). Aix only 25 mins away for a day trip and Marseille under 1 hr. We will revisit this place as we thoroughly loved the peaceful environment.
We are so pleased you had a great holiday and enjoyed the villa.
Fantastic villa in a beautiful location
This is the perfect house for a tranquil stay in the foothills of Mont St Victoire. It is remote but nearby Vauvenargues has a well stocked shop, bar and restaurants. The house is extremely comfortable, finished to a high standard and has a very well equipped kitchen. It is well placed for exploring nearby Aix, walking in beautiful countryside or visiting vineyards for sampling some excellent wines or you could just stay by the pool all day! We will definitely return for another stay.
Thankyou for your great review. The villa is out of the village itself but in an area where each villa has at least 1 hectare of land so definitely tranquil and people are around if you need them!
I'm so glad you intend to return and you are most welcome.
Cassis and Bandol are 45 minutes drive away. They are pretty little seaside towns offering beaches with lifeguards, fishing harbours, water sports, boat trips (from Bandol to Bendor and Embiez islands, from Cassis to the beautiful Calanques (creeks) and excellent seafood restaurants.
Marseille Airport 30 minutes drive (Easyjet, Ryanair and BA from Gatwick, Liverpool, Glasgow, Dublin).
Nimes Airport 1.15 hours drive (Ryan Air from Luton and Stansted).
Please check flights as there are frequent changes and additions.
Nice Airport 2 hours' drive (several airlines).
As the house is situated in the countryside, the use of a car is essential.
