Lodge near Greystoke, Lake District, Penrith, Cumbria, England - Spacious Decking Provides Stunning Views And Its Natural Gardens Are A Haven For Wildlife

Larchwood is a beautiful luxury cedar lodge overlooking the historic Duke's Pond. The lodge is located on the edge of Greystoke Forest, with views looking towards Blencathra and the Northern Fells of the Lake District National Park. Its unique location and exclusivity provide the ultimate haven for getting away from it all. The lodge has a large decked area with furniture, three private gardens and a shed for outdoor equipment. The gardens are an oasis for watching wildlife, frequently visited by a wide variety of birds, red squirrels and roe deer. The lodge itself provides 1st class accommodation for up to six people with a double bedroom (en-suite), a twin bedroom, bunk bedroom and spacious family bathroom. The living area is finished to a high specification with large kitchen, dining and lounge area promoting a wonderfully social holiday atmosphere. Two sets of French doors open up onto the secluded decked area, extending the living space for BBQs, entertaining and relaxation. The environment in and around Dukes pond is improving with the lodge owners management and this year we have seen ducks nesting, water shrews, newts , frogs and toads.

We live in Newcastle, have been married for 39 years and have two daughters and a granddaughter. After spending a lifetime of family holidays in the Lake District with the girls, Larchwood was the perfect place to continue this tradition with our ever growing family and friends.

Outside: To the side of the lodge there is a private decked area with furniture, wood burner and BBQ. The decking provides privacy and allows you to enjoy unspoilt views of the Moors and the pond. The lodge is surrounded by three natural gardens, and the back garden includes a view into The Larches forest. There is a large shed to the rear of the lodge offering secure storage for cycles or other outdoor equipment The lodge is cleaned and bed linen is provided and changed before each let. A small welcome pack plus tea, coffee & sugar is provided on arrival and a dry store cupboard is available for your use. Electric is included in the price. Other: From the Lounge two sets of south-facing French doors open up directly onto an impressive private decked area with furniture, wood burner, BBQ. A great extension to the living space for relaxation and alfresco dining whilst taking in the stunning views

Superb property, Superb setting.

We booked this property for a family birthday celebration.

From the outset Eric was more than helpful and the paperwork needed arrived well in advance. The property is absolutely outstanding both inside and out. Everything you could conceivably need is in the lodge including a super starter pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and a tipple. The red squirrels are even catered for. We hope to return very soon!!

Immaculate inside and out

This is a fabulous property. Beautiful inside with everything you could possibly want provided . It is in an excellent location with lots of wildlife on the doorstep. Even though the weather was not brilliant ,when the sun did make an appearance there were patio doors we could open onto the veranda. Keswick not far away . I would recommend this property without hesitation

Perfectly perfect in every way

The lodge is immaculate and every single detail has been thought about. The owners were very helpful and quick to respond to email requests. We had a fantastic holiday without having to worry about anything. We will be returning as I have not stayed anywhere (and I've been to many lodges/cottages around the country) where there were so many facilities. The wildlife around the area was a massive bonus and kept us entertained. We liked the interior decor so much we have bought some of the fittings for our own home :-)

Luxury lodge indeed!

Have stayed at Dukes Pond three times now, and enjoyed Christmas with friends at Larchood. Indredibly well appointed lodges, warm, cosy and with all the amenities one could desire. A real home from home, perfect to return to after a day traipsing around Greystoke Estate. Penrith is a short drive away to stock up on provisions from local deli's and the terrace has a beautiful view to soak up with a bottle of wine on the deck. Eric and Beatrice have doe a wonderful job maintaining the high standards we have come to expect from the lodges at Dukes Pond.

Perfect holiday home

We had a great stay in Easter, despite the very mixed weather. It was by far the best equipped lodge we've stayed in and the owners couldn't do enough to make out stay pleasant. Beautifully furnished and in an excellent location, ideal for exploring, we were never short of things to do but enjoyed all the home comforts when we were ready to relax. Would love to go back.

Great base in a tranquil location

We stayed at Larchwood whilst attending a local music festival and found it to be the perfect place to come back to and relax after busy days. The lodge is immaculate, very well kept and is well equipped. The booking process was very easy and the owners were friendly and helpful. We travelled as a family of three and found the lodge to have plenty of room - I think that this would be the case even when fully occupied - with a large kitchen/dining area and sitting room. We travelled to Lowther Park each day so didn't really get the chance to explore the local areas fully but still managed to see red squirrels and woodpeckers from our window. The area around the lodge is very peaceful and a walk or short drive will take you into some of the most unspoiled parts of the Lake District. We would definitely stay here again.

The Cumbrian coast is approximately a 45 minute drive from the lodge.


This is a rural location and a car is essential. Using a SatNav the postcode for the lodge takes you to the entrance of Dukes Meadow - the lodge is located at Dukes Pond, at the top of Dukes Meadow.


The village of Greystoke with pub, shop and Post Office is 4 miles away. Penrith with many shops, banks, restaurants and A&E hospital is 8 miles away. It is 10 miles to Ullswater and 12 miles to Keswick on Derwentwater. Carlisle is approximately 20 miles and Newcastle approximately 80 miles. There are a multitude of places of interest close at hand including all aspects of the Lake District, the Eden Valley, Roman Wall, the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Borders and Northumberland.

Further Details:

The adjacent Rowanburn lodge and Holmdell lodge may also be available if two or three families wish to holiday together.

Booking Notes:
A deposit of £100 is payable on booking the Lodge and the balance to be paid six weeks before arrival. Deposits are fully refundable up to 1 month before the holiday. If cancellation occurs within a month of the holiday the balance of the holiday will be refunded but the deposit will be retained. If the lodge is subsequently re-booked then the deposit will also be refunded. Late bookings made within a month of the start date need to be paid in full.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days are Friday and Monday. The lodge is available from 4pm on day of arrival until 11 am on day of departure. Other changeover days and times can be arranged.

Notes on prices:
Short breaks are available from 65% of the weekly price, all requests considered.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
