About Candice Wordley
Hi! We've had our family holiday home since 2006. We had never intended renting the villa, hence its cream sofas! But as time off work is scarce for us, it seemed such a sin to leave that beautiful house empty, we started renting in March 2011 and it has been very successful, the guest book is full of very positive reviews and its really uplifting when we arrive there to read them.
Candice Wordley purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Candice Wordley chose Jete
There are many reasons we chose this property ,construction had just begun when we bought it so we worked together with the builder to acheive all our objectives. As we have 3 daughters and thinking ahead, we wanted a private space for each of us, plenty of bathrooms..of course, and a large comunal space,Its light and spacious accommodation means we never feel claustrophobic and enjoy 'meeting' on the terrace for dinner. There is also plenty of land around the villa, the orchards are really well tended by Paco who sells the fruit to market each year. We are happy that he nurtures the trees and the garden so lovingly and continues to have an income. The villa and its many terraces are nestled into what is now a beautiful mature garden, its completely private and not overlooked. The views from the terrace are absolutely spectacular, watching the sun go down sipping a glass of local rioja is the BEST! The villa is in a part of Spain that is still very Spanish, the locals are friendly, the food , wine and tapas are still inexpensive and delicious. The beaches are beautiful, and a long fish lunch on the beach is a treat, though we often find it difficult to drag ourselves from the comfort of the villa. One the best discoveries was the waterfalls beyond otivar on the old road to Granada. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there and its like a little paradise, with its rope bridge, rocks to jump off and crystal clear lagoons to bathe in. Surrounded by pink flowering shrubs, we have spent many long days there with a picnic. It is well worth continuing along the old road to granada and visiting the reservoirs. Not least because the drive is beautiful. The reservoirs are sparking turquoise clear with white limestone beneath. Look out for them as you fly in.
What makes this Villa unique
Set between the white washed andalucian villages of Jete, Otivar and Itrabo, just 20 minutes from the coast, it really is a haven of tranquillity, especially in august when the coast is buzzing. The air is slightly cooler, cleaner and the sky at night is like a sparkling black velvet cloth due to the lack of light pollution. There is often a 'fiesta' in one of the local villages, it seems they will find any excuse. We always feel welcome at these events and it really is a spanish expereience not to be missed. They Really know how to party! Ask your host on arrival if she knows of any events during your visit.

Spacious clean and comfortable.
Had a lovely family Christmas and New year at the villa. Really spacious clean plenty of seating. Lovely pool which we used a couple of times but so cold in December as you would expect. All in all a nice relaxing break.
we're so pleased you had a lovely stay at Christmas. We've spent many a Christmas there with my family and we just love the winter sunshine.
Thank you for your kind words and we hope to have you again! PS we do special rates for second timers
Well equipt Villa with Amazing mountain views!
Following delays at the airport we arrived almost 6 hours later than scheduled but were grateful the accommodation exceeded our expectations. All creature comforts had been organised with heating turned on prior to our arrival and even milk and biscuits purchased to help us settle in the first day. Nina the owner was very helpful co-ordinating our journey on the phone to the villa (which can be tricky if arriving in the middle of the night with young kids) but together with Monsa's help (who met us at the premises) we managed to get there safely. So thank you both for your time.
Our kids loved the time at the Villa, although it was too cold to use the pool they still enjoyed pulling fresh oranges from the trees and eating them straight away! We thoroughly recommend this villa and will be booking again when visiting Spain.
For personal reasons this was a particularly important holiday and the memories will be with us always. A beautiful house with lovely views and wonderfully helpful and friendly hosts. Mike and Jenny, as many have said before us, were not only friendly and helpful but great cooks. The house is split into self contained units which are perfect for separate groups of friends or families or one family of three generations!
The whole place has an ambience about it that we have absorbed and enjoyed. I hope we will be back.
Great big family holiday- highly recommend
This was booked for my family as a birthday surprise for my father on his 70th birthday. My dad is very fussy on where he stays etc but his face was priceless when he arrived- he loved the location, the villa, the peace and the fantastic view. We were 9 adults and a 2 year old-- never felt on top of each other, great social space and good facilities.
The layout is great, property well maintained and a great location. You can get 3 cars parked at the villa, note that the pool isn't heated which can make enticing a 2 year old into the pool a challenge but for us adults it was great given how hot it was.
I would recommend this villa, the price was great for the number of people it can accommodate. The location was ideal for peace and relaxation whilst close enough to towns and beaches.
I strongly advise making use of the great catering service that Mike and Jenny provide. FANTASTIC value for money, delicious food and really does take the stress out of what to eat night of arrival and last night before leaving. Their dishes outshone what we had at restaurants and my family were very impressed (def. advise getting Jenny's paella).
A great holiday to Spain, a lovely villa and great catering- highly recommend.
Lovely villa in quiet, scenic surroundings. Ideal!
Lovely villa that is a real home from home. Looks out over the mountains, relaxing views from all rooms. Plenty of out door space and very deep pool. Hosts Jenny and Mike were welcoming and available but not at all intrusive. Meals cooked by Jenny were fabulous and seemed authentically Spanish. Useful to have catering on site as nearby villages are a short drive. Walk up into the hills or visit the quiet beaches at the foot of the National Park hills, about 30 min drive away. Accomodation was ideal for families holidaying together.
Thankyou for your review.
We are so lucky to have Mike and Jenny, they are a real bonus making it easy for guests to have a wonderful home cooked meal delivered, for a 'dine-out, at home' experience.
Just to clarify, they do not live at the villa, they live about 1km away., they have lived there for 8 years and previously owned a restaurant in Minorca.
We have just returned from a fantastic 2 week stay in Las Gorondrinas. The views are truly stunning and the villa extremely well equipped and comfortable. Many happy hours were spent around the pool and eating and drinking on the lovely terrace with a backdrop to die for! We would highly recommend using Jenny & Mike's catering service as every meal was excellent and great value, easier than carting the kids off to a restaurant too! The area has loads to offer and is ,as described, very Spanish which is not always the case when visiting Spain! We had great days out at the various local beaches, waterpark and the lagoon which was not for the faint hearted! A day at the Alhambra in Granada was stunning but book an early slot as the queue's were huge by the time we left and the sun baking. A car is an absolute must as you can't visit anywhere without one but the location makes up for any other drawbacks. Overall we would highly recommend the villa and its location to anyone, we were 3 separate families but we never felt on top of one another so suitable for larger groups too. Just wish we were back there with a glass of Rijoca in hand!
Cortijo Las Golondrinas is an elegant 5 bedroom villa nestling in the coastal hills of the ‘Valle Tropical’ of Andalucia in Spain. One hour by car from Malaga or Granada (Detailed instructions at rental), 3 km from local bars and restaurants in small villages (Otivar, Jete and Itrabo) , Local bakery in Itrabo 5 min by car, 20 min to the buzzing beaches of Almuñecar, Salobrena and La Herradura. This is the Spain of ‘chiringuitos’ serving heaped plates of sea food, whitewashed villages, thriving-all-year towns, old school customer service, stunning mountains, the Alhambra Palace and any excuse for a fiesta. The Villa's location overlooking the tropical valley foothills of the Sierra Nevada and the coast 8 km away works brilliantly for large families, romantic breaks, special occasion gatherings, ‘boys’ activity weeks and 'girls' getaways. Near enough to do a weekend, Spanish enough to be different... go hiking, eat fresh local food, cycle, canyon, horse trek, ski in the morning, swim in the afternoon or... do absolutely nothing, chilling on the terrace by the pool- top Rioja in hand. Enjoy! The Alhambra in Granada 60 min by car. Wildlife park in Peña Escrita about 20 km. Golf, sailing, hiking, climbing, cycling, tennis and riding and much more..... Golf: Motril 18 hole Golf Course is 25 min away although why anyone would want to spoil a good walk beats us! Golf is very popular all year in this part of Spain due to its warm climate. Ski: Brilliant skiing/snowboarding in The Sierra Nevada in Winter only 90 min door to door. 103 runs, snow park, 27 lifts, 350 snow cannons and the most southerly skiing in Europe. Brilliant place to learn, better food and much cheaper than France. The Spanish would lynch anyone who served tinned ravioli for a tenner! The best skiing I ever had? Christmas Eve when all the Spanish visit relatives and we caned 100km of totally empty resort in glorious sunshine overlooking the Mediterranean - A hidden gem and perfect for 2/3 days ski break.
