|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
A gorgeous detached cottage set in a stunning location high above the rooftops and historic buildings of Wirksworth. The cottage has been lovingly restored to the very highest standards. The area around the Wee House has the feel of a Cornish fishing village – a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. The Wee House is peaceful, quiet and has an ‘away from it all’ feel – yet it is only a short amble down the hill to the quirky boutique shops and independent eateries below. Great for a relaxing break away or an ideal place to set off on adventures in the surrounding Peaks – you can walk and cycle from the door.
-Changeover days are Fridays AND Mondays. In low season we will start on other days where possible. We welcome 2 night stays in low season - please enquire for a price.
Downstairs the high quality finish is warm, inviting and snug; whilst upstairs has a luxurious feel which is open, light and calming. (click 'more details' for further information)
Original features abound – twisty oak beams, a gritstone hearth and deep recessed windows. These are complimented by solid oak floorboards, a fantastic wood burning stove and handmade wooden shutters. Fabulous finishing and touches throughout.
Hello - we are Sarah and Mal and we live down the hill and round the corner from the Wee House on the Hill.

We were regular visitors to the Peak District and moved to Wirksworth in 1998 because it gave us all we wanted - beautiful walking and cycling country and an open and friendly community - it is a vibrant town with local shops and a thriving creative community full of designers, artists, musicians and sculptors. Wirksworth has a quaint village feel but with the benefits of all the amenities of a small town (restaurants, cafes, pubs etc). We lived in the Wee House as a rental property when we first moved to Wirksworth and fell in love with the cottage. When it came up for sale we saw it as an opportunity to lovingly improve it, and turn it into one of the best and most enjoyed holiday cottages in Derbyshire.
The 'Wee House' is stylish, comfortable and extremely well appointed with stunning views from both the cottage and garden. It is a 'top spot' literally and also because of its proximity to Peak District attractions. This quaint miners cottage has many original features, oak beams, and floorboards, gritstone fireplace with log burner. The cottage is a mix of traditional and contemporary. Downstairs offers comfort and warmth whilst upstairs offers a french boutique feel which is light, spacious and peaceful. The area surrounding the 'wee house' dates back to the 17th century and is called the 'puzzle gardens' due to the random layout of cottages and pathways which gives it a similar feel to a cornish fishing village.
"love it, love it, love it" - The wee-house is the perfect combination of calm, cosy and stylish. It is in a wonderful spot that allows you to feel tucked away from it all, able to relax and unwind yet with walks and amenities right nearby. Your attention to every detail and comfort means it's a luxurious treat to stay here. (D Taylor - Yorkshire)
The cottage was perfect in every way, down to the smallest detail. We couldn't have asked for a lovelier welcome and had fantastic recommendations on places to visit. To sum it up, breathtaking views & beautiful cottage = a very well rested couple from Essex. We will be back. (Joe and Claire -Essex)
'Wow' and 'oh my God' what a fantastic little hidden cottage. Superb decor throughout. We could not wish for a better and more comfortable place to stay. (Helen & Darren -Oxford)
'What a fantastic hidden gem'. The cottage is beautiful, the views are stunning - 'a home away from home'. We highly recommend (Natasha & Simon- London)
The cottage has everything you need for a very relaxing stay. It is perfectly located within close walking distance to all the shops in the town and also to set off on walks around the area. The cottage's modern appliances and bathroom made for a very comfortable stay, whilst not compromising the quant feeling of a cottage in the country.
We couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Thanks for everything, all we needed was here. Sarah, it was lovely to see that nothing was too much for you. The example you have set is a benchmark others in the UK need to step up to." Gerry and Sue (Tasmania)
The cottage itself was just what we were looking for, cosy, well done out, clean and contained everything we needed. Fantastic views from the cottage over Wirksworth and the surrounding countryside and good location to access walks and other attractions nearby in the Peak District. Also worth taking a short walk up the hill past the StarDisc and onto a footpath through the quarry which has some impressive views. The owner was especially helpful and friendly.
This was a superb little house that has been beautifully restored and furnished to a very high standard. It was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The owner was lovely and couldn't have been more helpful.
The walk out from the house to the Star Disk was great (particularly at night) and the house is generally in a great area for holidaying. We particularly enjoyed visits to Chatsworth House and walking in Dovedale.
We couldn't fault anything about this house and would recommend it to others.
The cottage was immaculate and the furnishings 1st class. A lot of time and effort has been put in by Sarah and Mal to plan such a superior cottage. The views from the cottage were spectacular, not drawing the curtains until darkness came.
The location in Wirksworth is very central for touring.
Very impressed by the extras such as wine, cake e.t,c. Which were there on our arrival.
Would highly recommend.
We had a great week at this well equipped and spotlessly clean cottage with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! Hosts Sarah & Mal couldn't have been more helpful & friendly, the whole experience was great. Mary & Mel White.
