This cottage has stunning views over Loughrigg, towards Coniston Old Man. You enter into the warm lounge, it has a south west aspect. The bay window has spectacular views and a dining table for six people to enjoy it all from. It is 2 minutes walk from Ambleside town centre: no need to take the car. Have an aperitif outside on the garden bench and walk down to one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars located nearby. There is a well equipped galley style kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a modern bath with shower & WC, central heating & living fire. The perfect base for a Lake District holiday.

About The Owner

When we bought the property we thought it would be a good investment, however it very quickly became so much more.

Over the years it has provided a very welcome escape from a hectic work schedule, I always return home feeling utterly relaxed, chilled and ready to face anything.

Lots of family & friends have been able to enjoy holidays here, we've spent many hours around the dinner table sharing special times and all eagerly await a return invitation.

The Owner purchased this house in 1998

If you are a Lakes lover, you will understand why we chose to buy in Ambleside. It is the centre of the hub. Offering all sorts of activities for different ages. We have never regretted the choice! And, made many happy memories.

Fantastic location

We have just returned from a great few days staying in this cottage. We found it comfortable, warm and cosy, spotlessly clean and well stocked. The view from the front window is just sublime.... We watched the morning mist dissolve as the sun came out over Loughrigg Fell, simply beautiful. An excellent location, an easy walk into Ambleside to sample the many restaurants and bars. Will recommend to friends.

Amazing views!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bluehill cottage, it was comfortable, clean & the views were stunning, walks practically from the doorstep & great restaurants, we were even fortunate enough to have great weather, we certainly plan to return.

What a fabulous place in a great location

We had a great few days in this really delightful cottage. the views are amazing ... probably one of the best in Ambleside for a cottage in this location. We were about 5 minutes walk into the centre of Ambleside. We didn't need to use the car as everything we needed (included all the great walks that we did) were within easy reach. Ambleside is well 'stocked' with restaurants, pubs, shops and gorgeous scenery. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable ... it is someone's 'home' rather than a 'posh' let and we really enjoyed the informality and feeling at home. Would definitely return and I'm sure in the winter time it would be a lovely place to 'cosy' up in!

Kitchen let down

Cottage location was perfect with great views unfortunately let down by the state of the kitchen. On arrival we found oven and grill were greasy and hadn't been cleaned from previous occupancy. Electric toaster was also dirty and not usable. Top of microwave and cooker hood were also requiring cleaning. Dish towels left were clean but stained. New towels were provided the following day. Finally it took 3 reminders from me to the owners to have my deposit returned which eventually cleared 19 days after departure. We will not be returning to this cottage and therefore cannot recommend it.

Incredible Views

Bluehill cottage exceeded our expectations, the cottage was spotlessly clean, fully equipped & had wifi, the views took my breath away, it was so nice to be able to access the walks from the doorstep yet be so close to the village, we have recommended the cottage to all our friends & will definitely return.

This is a lovely place to stay. The view from the front room and top floor is what you come to the Lakes. A short walk into town where there is a Tesco extra. The house is over 3 floors with the bedrooms on levels 2 and 3. The stairs are quite step so those with walking problems may find it difficult. The bathroom is large with a good shower.

We cooked all meals in the evening and although a good supply of pans and utensils I had to go out to purchase a frying pan.

No Wifi but good phone signal. There is a car parking space for a single vehicle but if the other houses are occupied then parking can become an issue if you have more than one car. There is alternative on road parking a few streets away.

£100 deposit immediately and full payment, 6 weeks in advance. Last minute bookings welcome. Keys collected in Ambleside. Short breaks (minimum 3 nights) considered but not during summer holidays, email for information.

Changeover Day:
Friday changeover day, weekends will be considered if available. Weekends can be Friday to Monday departure or Friday to late checkout Sunday afternoon. Midweek breaks are also available Monday to Friday.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
