Gorgeous, secluded 18th century barn set in peaceful open countryside. Relax into the style and charm of the Loire Valley in this spacious property with original features throughout. It is immersed in the surrounding gardens, orchard and has its own private driveway. It offers a relaxing holiday, whether you like to walk, cycle, fish, go to water parks, ride, admire the areas historical chateaux and their magical surroundings, see animals or just sit and enjoy the sun.

About Deborah Cooper

We bought this property after looking in France for five years, trying to find the ideal location. We came across this by chance and immediately knew this was a great property in a great location.

We have been renovating the barn over the last couple of years and finally completed it in June 2012.

We wanted a property that was remote enough to enjoy the peaceful and relaxing countryside, but near enough to a village which has all the amenities of shops, bars and restaurants. When you arrive at the property, you immediately relax.

The highlights for us were the lovely walks in the lanes around the house & not worrying about traffic, & the peace & quiet. The house was well stocked with things like toilet roll, bin bags, dishwasher tablets etc which was unexpected & appreciated. The stair gate was a godsend!

We went to La Baule one day which was fabulous

We'd definitely consider coming again & will recommend to others as it's the perfect holiday for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway

My partner & I couldn't have asked for a better holiday or location

The owners more than catered for us & seem to have thought of every little detail. We had lovely weather so took full advantage of the pool which was wonderful.

The location was perfect & it was very peaceful yet we were only 10 minutes from the local town if we needed anything. We came back totally relaxed & revived. Would highly recommend & will definitely be booking again

  • Both upstairs bedrooms have ensuites with large corner showers, WC's and sinks and are very modern. There is a bathroom downstairs which has a sink, WC, bath and an overhead shower. A wheelchair can access the downstairs bathroom.

One has a kingsize bed, the other, a zip & link bed which can be 2 singles or zipped together to form a kingsize. There is a large double bedroom downstairs. All have wardrobes. There's also a travel cot available.

Outside: The outside area has a patio with a 6 seater table and chairs on it and a BBQ for your use. It overlooks our field where the cows may choose to wander up to the fence and look at you. They may take grass from your hands. The garden, with trees and shrubs, surrounds the patio so there is plenty of outdoor space. It is a private area for the gite separated from the main house area by conifers. There is a 5 x 5m above ground pool for your use with a couple of reclining chairs for the sun worshippers so a great way to relax. This will be open from June - September. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen & towels aren't supplied. We supply pillows & duvets but offer the option of bedlinen & towels. We charge £17 per room for bedding & £4 pp for towels per week. Cot bedding is £4 per infant per week. The property is cleaned after each changeover.

The property was everything we hoped for and more. It was incredibly peaceful, remote but only minutes from civilisation, and there was a full range of things to do within 1 hour drive.

The Gite itself is large and spacious, well equipped and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including UK TV - a godsend with small children!

Secluded and peaceful

Perfect location which was only an hour and 20 minutes from St Malo so easily accessible for us. It was exactly what we were looking for and more. We came for a weeks rest and relaxation and that is exactly what we found. The Gite was very secluded with only the cows for company! We were pleasantly surprised by an extremely well equipped kitchen and excellent facilities with the pool table and pool both being wonderful additions. Having English tv was a bonus too. Would highly recommend and will be rebooking in the future.

La Gaudichalaie

This is an ideal location - easily accessible from Roscoff and other ports, right on doorstep of Loire Valley and Paris can be done in a day. Also away from it all, set in the middle of beautiful countryside so plenty of peace and quiet. Special touches for children - pool table, pool, and UK TV is a real bonus. No wifi, which for us was ideal. Great all round place to stay. Bedrooms and bathrooms beautifully done.

Relaxing holiday, idyllic location

Lovely property in perfect location, lots of attention to detail and Angie is a treasure. Extremely useful information provided by Deborah via e-mail prior to holiday. Children enjoyed the pool, little girl wanted 'to stay forever'. Would highly recommend if you want to get away from it all.

My partner and I stayed here in July 2013. We could not have asked for a better holiday or location.

The owners more than catered for us and seem to have thought of every little detail. We had lovely weather so took full advantage of the pool which was wonderful. The location was perfect and it was very peaceful yet we were only 10 minutes from the local town (Pouance) if we needed anything.

Relaxing again

We were really looking forward to returning after having such a wonderfully relaxing time here last year. We didn't think things could be any better but the pool was lovely to dip in, especially as the sun was shining every day. No worries about coming home with a case full of washing either, all those little extra facilities very much appreciated!

Can recommend the restaurant in Chateaubriand opposite the chateau - wonderful steaks and the restaurant in the square at Pouance, can't remember the name.

All in all - next year I think so!!

Car: necessary


Saint-Nazaire is about 1½ hours from our property. It has a beautiful coastline with the coast is divided with 20 beaches and coves, headlands and cliffs, a coastal path of several kilometres and a promenade along the seafront, close to the city centre.


The property is situated between 3 main airports which are about 60 minutes away from the property – Nantes, Rennes and Angers. They fly from all over the UK.

There is easy access to French Auto routes.

Distance from the ferry ports:

St Malo - 1 hour 30 minutes

Caen - 2 hours 20 minutes

Cherbourg - 3 hours 15 minutes

Le Havre - 3 hours 30 minutes

Calais - 5 hours minutes

Dieppe - 4 hours


Pouancé is our nearest village. It is a 7 minute drive away. Go straight to the end of the road. Turn right at the end on to the D203. Continue straight, on the D181 to the end (by the monument) and turn left. You will come to a small roundabout, follow the signs to Pouancé.

It is a pretty village with locally run shops, bars, restaurants, hairdressers, banks, chemist, hospital, a butcher, a bakers and a small supermarket.

The main supermarket, SuperU, is located just outside the village.

Further Details:

There are some lovely restaurants and bars in Pouancé and Chateaubriant.

There are weekly markets from Monday to Saturdays in the surrounding area.

There are numerous chateaux to visit, water parks, fishing, museums, restaurants, bars, cycling and walking paths, grottos, zoos and gardens.

In Chateaubriant, there are plenty of cycling routes to enjoy through the countryside.

Le Mans 24 hour race is held every year in June. This is just over 1 hour from our property. Worth a visit. You can pre-book tickets in the UK before you go.

Additional information about rental rates

Fees No additional mandatory fees
Refundable damage deposit $209.47

Booking Notes:
We'll secure a provisional booking for 5 working days.You can pay by cheque or direct into our bank account.

Once the booking is made and you've paid a refundable deposit of £150, we'll send you confirmation of all the details.
The deposit will be refunded subject to an inspection of the property to make sure there are no damages and that it is left clean and tidy.

The balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival.

Changeover Day:
The changeover day is usually on a Saturday unless the property is available part way through the week at the time of booking. Check in time on your day of arrival is 4pm onwards and check out time on your day of departure is by 10am.

Notes on prices:

Additional nights between £80 - £100 depending on time of year.

Central heating is available in the low season winter months (30 September - 27 April).

Please contact the owners for Christmas and New Year prices and availability.

If you cancel your holiday within 56 days of your arrival date, you will lose the total amount of your holiday paid and no refund will be made, as it will be difficult to re-let at such short notice.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
