Chalet in Zell am See, Salzburg, Austria - Quiet But Central Location Within Walking Distance Of Town, Lifts And Slopes

The chalet has three floors and a basement. It has an open plan living room, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor, with access to a patio and garden. In addition there is a separate toilet and boot dryer in the hallway and a ski locker outside. The 1st floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom. The 2nd floor has an en-suite bedroom. There is a balcony on the 1st and 2nd floors. There is a sizeable garden and a basement with laundry facilities and ironing board. It was refurbished and redecorated in 2011, with a new en-suite bedroom built and roof added to the upper balcony. An additinal TV snug was been added to the basement in 2014. The house has underfloor heating and an air-filtration system for the summer. The house is in a quiet position on the famous Schmittenstrasse in Zell am See (perfectly located between the city Xpress lift and the trass Xpress, Schmittenhöhebahn and Sonnalmbahn lifts) within walking distance of the charming town centre, restaurants and bars and only 200 meters from bus stops.

Notes on accommodation: The chalet is self-catered with many restaurants and bars within walking distance. Wireless broadband is available free of charge. The chalet is centrally heated with underfloor heating in the winter, and an air filtration system in the summer. Outside: The house is a semi-detached house, sited closest to the mountain. It has a sizeable garden with a small patio and circular table with four chairs. A barbecue is available upon request. The garden has a hedge on two sides and a fence on the other. There is access around the side of the house to the driveway, which has a gate that can be closed to prevent children reaching the road. Utility Room: The basement has a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron. There is also a dart board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are included in the rental charge. The house is cleaned every Saturday and at the end of the rental period. If more frequent cleaning is required this can be arranged but there will be an additional charge. Other: The dining room table can seat 8, but can be extended to seat 10. There is a sideboard containing local information, games and instructions for equipment in the house. It also provides additional storage space. Please note this is a non-smoking house.

A comfortable, well appointed house.

A lovely spacious, well presented house only a short walk down to the very pleasant Zell Am See town centre, and not too far up the hill to the Schmittenhoehenbahn. The house is clean, comfortable and well furnished / equipped and our family of 2 Adults and 4 children very much enjoyed our time there during August. The owner was very attentive in all correspondence and keen to ensure we were happy with all aspects of our stay. I thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

Spacious and comfortable

We stayed in February 2016 with 4 adults and two under 5s. We very much enjoyed our stay. The property was spacious, warm and well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped and the open plan living area was large enough. Bedrooms were also large, particularly the one on the top floor. It is possible to walk 5 min to get onto a blue piste that takes you to the city express lift. Non-skier lessons are about 15 min walk up the hill (difficult with pushchairs) so the frequent busses are very helpful (and free with a ski pass). Nice to have a patio, garden and balconies.

Superb spacious and comfortable chalet

We had a fantastic two weeks in Zell, made all the more pleasurable by this great chalet. It has plenty of space inside and out so we were not all on top of each other, all the facilities and equipment you'll need and a really pleasant and helpful owner (especially as I had to call him on his holiday in Greece after I'd been an idiot with the safe!).

The chalet is a 10 minute walk from Zell which means you are away from the busy road, it was very peaceful and has a lovely vista up to the neighbouring fields and mountains.

Excellent chalet & location

We were very pleased with this chalet. Both the owner and housekeeper were efficient with providing information and answering any questions. The chalet was clean, well fitted out and exceeded our expectations. The chalet is located 10 minutes walk from Zell am See and the cable car. Also ideally located to a network of fantastic mountain footpaths so excellent for keen walkers. Would definitely recommend to all.

Car: not necessary


The beach and Lido area of the lake are about 10 minutes walk from the house.


The nearest airport is Salzburg, between 60-75 minutes drive. Innsbruck airport is about 2 hours 15 minutes drive and Munich 2.5 - 3 hours.

Driving from Calais Channel Tunnel is 12 hours or more dependent upon stops, speed etc.

There are bus links from Salzburg Airport and train links from Salzburg station. Both take about 90 minutes. Taxis are also available. Car hire is not necessary if you have no wish to travel further than the town, Kaprun or Saalbach.


The town is 5-10 minutes walk from the chalet. Zell am See is an hour and a half drive from the beautiful and famous City of Salzburg. It is also closely situated to Berchtesgaden, and the Krimml Waterfalls, to name just two of many popular visitor destinations. There are a number of gorges and caves within 30 minutes drive.

Further Details:

Zell am See is a traditional Austrian resort. The town is busiest during the summer and winter but is equally attractive during the Spring and Autumn seasons. During peak season the town has a variety of bars and nightclubs. Supermarkets, shops, banks, chemists, churches, bus station, train station and lifts are all within walking distance.

There are a plethora of walking routes and cycling routes starting within meters of the front door. Cycle routes are clearly marked and extend not just up the mountain paths but also in all directions along the valley, and are mostly off the main roads. The lake has a number of lidos to swim from, and there is a path that goes round the lake, providing a peaceful 7 mile flat route for walkers or runners.

A number of local activity centres provide opportunities for more adventurous guests to try something different, from white water rafting to Canyoning, kayaking to mountain biking. There are also two golf courses close by.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is usually a Saturday. Shorter rental periods may be available upon request dependent upon the time of year.

Notes on prices:
All prices include towels, bed linen and end cleaning. Local taxes are included. There are no additional hidden charges. A refundable €300 damage deposit is required.
For stays of less than one week an additional cleaning charge of €140 will be added to the price of the stay.
Cancellation policy - if you cancel your holiday having paid a deposit or fail to pay the balance when requested (in which case the booking will be deemed cancelled), your holiday period will be shown as available on the website. If a replacement booking is made and fully paid the deposit will be refunded.
