miranda walsh purchased this cottage in 2000
I fell in love with the property as soon as I saw it. It has a farmhouse feel, beautiful garden, surrounded by fields and woods, great for my dogs as I don’t have to take them in the car for a walk, we just go through the gate into the wood!
One feels that you are on your own but actually do have neighbours!
One enjoys the peace!, walks, great pubs.
Beauty Therapist, Naomi Wiliams comes to the house and cottage she specialies in salon and spa treatments, I highly recommend her, her prices are very reasonable.
Baby sitting and dog sitting available, but must pre book before stay.
Looking through my guest book comments over the past year, they say the cottage is great for walking, resting, and loving the peace of the country.
"Thanks for a wonderful stay a real home from home with lots to do......" Simon is coming back for the third time!
"A wonderful stay, only 4 days sadly, but still had time for some glorious walks...."
"The cottage is lovely and so well equiped. The rooms are much bigger than expected. Miranda was so helpful and friendly." Jayne, Dave and Mya. They are coming back for Easter.
"thank you for a lovely stay just what we needed, a space to relax in after busy days of meeting friends and family. It is a great location and cosy and warm for the pm and am lazing! We enjoyed the home made Island Heron apple juice and choc that Miranda gave us, back now home to New Zealand sad to say goodbye"
"Well Miranda I can barley think of any thing I would do to enhance my stay here, you have so much to offer. The location is full of delight
The cottage makes an ideal getaway for the family or an all adults retreat. Plenty of beautiful walks (direct from your door) for all abilities. Plenty of wildlife to be spotted including deer. Peaceful and away from it all but in a short distance of Basingstoke and Newbury. Take a walk around the roman wall at Silchester. Visit the sight of water ship down. The owner is helpful and friendly and close by when needed but not intrusive. We have been 4 or 5 times and are looking forward to our next getaway.
A very well equipped, clean and comfortable self catering cottage. My children and I have stayed for just over four weeks and the accommodation has been ideal for daily family living as well as close to many attractions within Hampshire and travelling to London.
My children had an amazing time playing with the owners dogs and helping feed the horse and ducks. There was a lovely lady (Lyn) who owns one of the horses at the property. She baby sat for me so I had an opportunity to go running in the mornings and meet up with friends in the evenings.
The woodland at the back of the property was great for walking and running. There was also a play park for children that could be accessed via the woods.
I would like to return here again for another stay in the future.
The owner was most welcoming and very helpful.
The local pubs serve great food and the Bombay Sapphire Distillery was a great visit.
My girls and I will miss the cottage very much.
I highly recommend a stay here. Amanda (Oman)
Quiet friendly cottage. Well furnished. Lovely surroundings. The owner friendly helpful
large rooms which are bright and airy. Good walks and friendly pubs.
thoroughly recommend and would visit again.
Having just returned from our lovely weekend break at The Cottage, we only have good things to say. We were welcomed by Miranda and her two lovely dogs. The cottage is very spacious for four people, with two excellent bathrooms, and two very large bedrooms. The lounge contained two very comfy settees, and another two easy chairs, which were ideal to chill out on and watch television and relax. There was a lovely rustic coffee table ideal for board games etc.the dining area had a table to seat 6 people. The cottage was warm and we all slept very well in the comfortable beds, especially the super king size bed !!! The cottage is perfectly located for walking and there are very nice pubs nearby. THE DUCKS WERE HILARIOUS !!! We would definitely return and would also recommend it to our friends. THANKS AGAIN FOR A SUPER WEEKEND.
I'll split the review into two sections positive and negative (from my point of view)
Lovely quite location
more than enough room for upto 4 adults.
close (within 30 mins) of reading/basingstoke/Newbury
2 bathrooms (one shower, one bath)
Even though i have put down 'dogs welcome' if you didn't have a dog you will notice a 'doggy' smell.
We stayed also in April it was cold, the heating came on in the morning and that was it, as a guest there is no way of adjusting heating which i would think will be a problem if you stay in the winter.
the bedroom upstairs there are not blinds so in the summer the room will be very light, a problem if you want to lay in.
Deposit, we gave over a 50% deposit, had to cancel as i had to go into hospital. So if there is any doubt about getting there due to what ever reason you will lose your deposit. We know the week was filled as we recommended a friend to stay there but that date was taken.
Its a shame really as we did enjoy it there but will not stay again.
My husband and I (with our two dogs) made holiday in Mirandas cottage for 8 days and I have to say, we had a wonderful time.
I think the cottage is large enough to accommodate 4 people - and we felt very comfortable in this week. Even some furniture are not new, we felt at home. Specially Mirandas character we appreciated - she is so nice and helpful.
Our dogs loved the walks beginning straight behind the cottage - and we would be only too pleased to come again. Many thanks for the wonderful holiday!
