About Loretta Jewitt

We live in the Midlands in England. Our 4 grown up 'children' have almost flown the nest! We spend as much time as we can enjoying holiday breaks and love Ilfracombe. We bought 8 Searock 2 Bed in September 2010. I came across the property in a 'random search' one Saturday, fell in love with it, went to see it the following Tuesday & bought it on Wednesday! We have spent lots of time improving it for our guests to enjoy. The apartment overlooks the promenade and sea with a balcony to appreciate this and glorious sunsets.

We bought 9 Searock 1 Bed in October 2012. Both are near the harbour, bars, restaurants and town. The area offers beautiful scenery, surfing, golfing and walks & cycling on the Tarka trail to say the least. Reasonable prices & breaks of 3 days minimum are available.

Why Loretta Jewitt chose North Devon

Ilfracombe is a beautiful town to enjoy, in a picturesque setting and a perfect base from which to explore the fabulous surrounding coast and countryside. A short walk up the hill is the fascinating and historical Fore Street with its 'hotchpotch' of cottages, inns, warehouses & workshops dating back to the middle ages. One of the original buildings is the George & Dragon tavern dating back to 1360! Fore Street is still a centre for 'meeting & eating' with quality restaurants, bistros, bars, pubs & cafes. The town centre dates from the 19th century with traditional greengrocers, butchers & bakers, handed down through generations. A visit to the town is a treat not only for shopping but to enjoy the historical Victorian architecture.

What makes this apartment unique

Situated on the sea front and close to the harbour, beaches & town, our apartment has everything you need for a really enjoyable holiday or break! Despite the many cafes & restaurants, our apartments are well equipped for you to enjoy easy, 'home from home' living. The 8 Searock balcony offers a perfect place to take in the scenes and sunsets and 'chill' with your favourite beverage and food. There is something for all ages, whether you just like to browse the vicinity at a steady pace & take in the beaches, bars & restaurants, tackle the Tarka Trail on foot or bike or explore the attractions for children nearby. We are 'on the doorstep' of the Tourist Information Centre which has a wealth of knowledge about local sights and attractions to suit all ages.

You should definitely stay here!

  • 5 of 5

I have to say that this apartment is absolutely perfect in every way. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Ilfracombe with the harbour (and Verity) on one side and the Theatre and Tunnels on the other. You really could not choose a better place to stay. Even though you are in the very heart of the village, the apartment was very quiet. The apartment was very clean and welcoming with a lot of little finishing touches to make your stay perfect from the welcoming tea and coffee to the gorgeous shower gel in the bathroom.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment and I am hoping to book again later in the year. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Ilfracombe. If you get the chance to book the two bedroom apartment, take it. It is so nice to sit out on the balcony in the sunshine with a large glass of wine just passing the time.

Compact but pleasantly comfortable and well appointed.

  • 4 of 5

Surprisingly discreet with a grandstand location for sea views, weather and local life. Stairs are an excellent fitness boost and good training for the coastal walks.

Well equipped and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Couldn't have been in a more

perfect position as we were relying on public transport, good and regular bus service right outside the door to Barnstaple from where you could access many other places. Apartment had everything we needed, comfortable beds, fluffy towels, wonderful power shower and equipped kitchen. The 53 stairs were daunting after a long day out but Loretta had pre-warned us! Getting our suitcases up them on arrival was hard, but on departure we just chucked them over the banisters. Simples!!

The downside was there was no WiFi. It would have been good to be able to research our days out.

Ilfracombe is very picturesque with a huge selection of restaurants, tea rooms, cafes and chippies. Harbour really lovely and interesting. All in all a memorable week.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this review. Ha ha ha - I'm sure future guests will appreciate your solution to the stairs on leaving with luggage! I think it may also suggest that traveling light is a good idea because it is a bit of a 'killer' when you arrive. I appreciate your comment about WIFI & we must tackle is as a management group. Fortunately there are many places close by where you can log on for cost of a coffee or drink. Thank you again & I hope you come back to us. Best wishes - Loretta.

Lovely appartment with stunning seaviews

  • 4 of 5

The appartment is very well located with views over the promenade and the sea. It is just a 5 minutes walk to the pier and also to the highstreet with shops. Everything was very well presented and clean. We can recommend searock appartment number 8 to every one. If we will come back to Ilfracombe we would surely book this apartment again.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely apartment, lots of thought put in to what you might need during your stay.

The balcony overlooks the sea, fantastic view.

If looking for accommodation in the area would highly recommend it.

Only downside is this on the 3rd floor and no lift, so not suitable for persons with walking difficulties.

Excellent apartment, good views, good location, just be aware that there are 53 stairs up.

Plenty of room, with extremely helpful Sarah to give us the keys on arrival. Very thoughtful to provide 2 door keys. Everything spotless, and well equipped. Only thing to bear in mind is that it is on the top floor, which is great, but you do have a long climb up. Parking is rather a problem, the cheaper weekly ticket only entitles you to use outlying parks, and if using a blue badge you must pay normal parking fees. We had a super holiday, the coves around Ilfracombe with lovely beach cafes and pubs were such a treat! Lovely scenery, good for a walking and/or driving holiday.

This backs up what I put in the details but guest comments always help future guests to be prepared. I am really pleased that you liked the apartment & it was as you expected in terms of cleanliness. Thank you so much & I hope you come back to us. Best wishes - Loretta.

Map

Coast/Beach:

Our apartments are 500m from the nearest beaches and a 15 min. walk from nearby coves. The famous surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are 20 mins. drive away.

Cliff top walks can give amazing views as far as Wales!

Travel:

The National Express can offer services which take you directly to the bus station which is just behind the apartments, a 3 min. walk away.

The nearest train station is in Barnstaple and buses to Ilfracombe are regular from the station.

Distances:

Ilfracombe is ideally situated for you to explore the spectacular coastline and the delightful moorland reaches of Exmoor with its rolling hills and quaint villages; to the east are the unique villages of Lynton and Lynmouth with it's cliff top railway, and to the west the delights of Clovelly (wear strong shoes or trainers!), Appledore, Hartland and the market town of Barnstaple with its famous Pannier Market and Butchers Row. Barnstaple is 12 miles away.

Further Details:

A local bus goes to TESCO each day from the bus station behind the apartments or other stops in town and Lidl is within walking distance just past the Landmark Theatre. We find a folding trolly bag really useful!
