About Carole Slack
We both grew up locally and after a spell living in West Sussex we returned to Devon. Gary is a health care director and Carole a teacher. We love the coast and enjoy walking, cycling, skiing and eating out! We had a motor boat and spent many happy hours pottering about on the river. Our two children grew up playing on the beach at Shaldon and went to the village primary school. While we were on secondment to the USA we valued our wonderful cottage even more on our regular visits home. We are now back in the UK and make regular visits to Shaldon a place close to our hearts. We are fortunate to have a wonderful local couple managing the cottage and maintaining it to the high standards that we started with.
Carole Slack purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Carole Slack chose Shaldon
We have always loved Shaldon and were delighted when this cottage on The Green came up for sale as this has always been our favourite location in the village. The cottage has been totally renovated very innovatively and tastefully, by two local people. Oyster Cottage is perfectly situated and due to the thoughtful reverse level design you can enjoy wonderful views of the green, the village, the sea and river, whilst relaxing with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. There are plenty of wonderful places to eat and drink in Shaldon, including the Clipper which is open all day and evening and is right on the beach, the wonderful Coffee Rush which serves Riverford Farm products is now incorporated within the Clifford Arms. You can walk up to Ode Cafe at the Ness, across the green to The London Inn which was completely renovated a few years ago, serves amazing food, and has a sunny pub garden or amble down to the Clipper Cafe right on the beach or up to Fore St. to enjoy a delicious meal or amazing coffee in The Clifford. We have spent many enjoyable evenings in Shaldon with friends while staying at the cottage ourselves. Shaldon is a quaint and unique seaside village with so much to offer.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are many wonderful things about staying at Oyster Cottage. The village green location is perfect as you are within walking distance of all the local facilities, shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and just 50 metres to the beach and ferry to Teignmouth. You can easily pull up outside to load and unload. Plenty of parking located nearby. No need to use the car for the duration of your stay, unless you want to go further afield. It is a very bright and airy property and because of it's position the dual aspect views are fantastic. We have furnished it in a nautical style in keeping with the village ethos. We take great pride in maintaining the decor and furnishings so that it keeps it's "newly decorated" feel. It is a quirky mixture of old and modern and includes everything from WiFi to waste disposal to make staying there as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. After six successful years with lots of wonderful comments and reviews from our happy guests, the cottage has been spring cleaned and we are ready to welcome guests old and new to Oyster Cottage on The Green. We added even more refinements in 2018, including some decor items, but most exciting is the bathroom remodel. We now have a wonderfully spacious walk in shower, tastefully designed and decorated to fit in with the nautical and seaside theme throughout the cottage. In winter 2018/2019 we upgraded the kitchen flooring. Perfect location to experience village life
upstairs living was spacious and comfortable
downstairs was a bit to near the street ( bin men came at 4.30am)
Great location and cottage. Comfortable bed and excellent shower. Pictures of cottage are accurate. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
We feel location is important when choosing somewhere to stay and Oyster Cottage is ideal as it is close to everything Shaldon has to offer and the coastal footpath. It is also easy reach to Exeter and Dartmoor and there are several good golf courses nearby. The shower upgrade has been a hit with all our guests, so pleased!
I stayed here with 3 friends and had an incredible time. The village of Shaldon itself is lovely with beach, cafe and pub (all great) within a minute's walk of the front door.
The house itself is impeccable, has everything you need, a nice seaside feel and plenty of room.
Lovely hosts - thank you so much for everything.
Our aim is to ensure our guests have a wonderful stay so we work hard to keep the cottage immaculate for new and returning guests to enjoy. Shaldon has everything you need from sandy beaches to cafes, pubs and local shops all within a few minutes walk from the cottage.
A compact, central and beautifully kitted out cottage.
Our little family loved the cottage and its proximity to the beach, pub, cafe, and all other amenities in the village. For children, it was blissfully close to everything and a stone's throw from the beach.
Comfortable and well equipped. We will use it again.
We love the central village location too. It’s so good to be able to walk everywhere. We work hard to keep the cottage tip top and well fitted out so guests can have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Returning guests are always welcome.
Beautifully designed and decorated cottage making the most of a great location
We had a warm welcome and were immediately impressed by the lovely nautical décor and design. The views out of both windows make the cottage feel light and airy. It was a great idea to put the kitchen and living area upstairs. The new bathroom was lovely. The central location made it easy to access everything we needed in Shaldon. We appreciated the essential items (tea, sugar etc..) and enjoyed the scones.
The views from the cottage are wonderful and together with the central location it really makes it a cottage for all seasons and weathers. We believe that you can’t come to Devon and not sample a cream tea so what better way to start your holiday or short break than with a complimentary Devon cream tea to enjoy while enjoying the views.
What an amazing place! I write this as a family of 4, 2 kids under 5 and it absolutely delivered, right from the James who checked us in with all the rest information, this place takes some beating. The house is perfectly located, 30 seconds walk to the beach, same distance to a lovely restaurant where you can sit outside and have a meal whilst kids play on the beach. The local football pitch is a 2 minute scoot away as well! The house is great for families and couples id imagine. Bunk beds for the kids were comfortable and secure. The main bedroom was a great size. Upstairs to the lounge with views to the sea (and the pub opposite) great room for the kids to play and comfy sofas to sit on in the evening. Plenty to do in the area, trains, NT, farms and child friendly cafe and pubs. Definitely go to Shaldon zoo! All in all a perfect play and oyster cottage is a perfect home to stay in
It is always wonderful to hear such positive comments about Oyster Cottage and Shaldon. The location is ideal for families and couples as you can walk everywhere and there are plenty of things to do and places to go right on the doorstep. Dining at the Clipper overlooking the beach is such a treat and the London Inn is a wonderful pub with great food and a garden by the village green so ideal for all.
