Beautiful Villa With Heated Salt Water Pool in the heart of Tuscany
Beautiful Tuscan villa for couples,no children allowed. Right in the heart of Tuscany overlooking the village of Caprese Michelangelo and is set in 100 acres of the most beautiful mountain forests. The relaxing, heated salt water pool complete with Roman steps, sits in a peaceful olive grove with a breath-taking view through the mountains to the fairytale-esque Castle of Michelangelo.
The tranquil position, frequently described as 'paradise on earth' contains an abundance of wildlife where the birds sing all night and the fireflies provide a moving display of sparkling light. In years gone by, the villa was owned by the Vatican and was used to house monks from the monastery. Ideal for walking and cycling, the area is home to many fine restaurants, with truffles and mushrooms being a local specialty, and good Tuscan wines. The mountains and forests have inspired the three greatest artists of the Renaissance and remain largely unspoiled today. This is where the great artist Michelangelo was born and lived. The little chapel where he was baptised is in the village and a museum dedicated to him is within the Castle of Michelangelo. Nearby at La Verna is the Franciscan monastery retreat where St Francis of Assisi is said to have received the stigmata. Rich in Renaissance history are the local towns of Sansepolcro, Cortona and the medieval walled town of Anghiari. It is ideal for walking and cycling in particular.
There is so much to see & do as well as time to relax by the salt water pool which is heated by solar panels and it gets very warm. So plenty of sun cream is very important especially as we are in the Apennine Mountains and at 600 metres above sea level the sun's rays are very strong.
The area has many great restaurants and because we are not close to the city the prices are very low. We have a bar and restaurant service here too as well as a taxi service available to take guests to any of the wonderful restaurants nearby.
Anghiari, a wonderful medieval walled town which is about a 20 min drive has a fabulous Pizzeria called Bar Baldacchio. It’s the best pizza in the world. They do chips too !
In Citerna there is a beautiful restaurant called La Civetta which has the most incredible views and food.
In Caprese Michelangelo you will find the castle and birthplace of the legendary artist Michelangelo to visit, as well as a lovely family restaurant called the Buca di Michelangelo, where it is possible to have a 4 course meal that is around 25 euro a head and it is amazing! You can have truffles on your pasta which is incredible. Look for anything with Tartufi. So the pasta con Tartufi or Gnocchi con Tartufi which means with truffles There is also another Pizzeria called Il Boschetto and the four cheese pizza called the blob ( don’t ask me why) is great. If you eat there at the weekend you can then get a free pass to watch the dancing outside but its best to go early, and we can to book it for you..
Sansepolcro is the biggest town locally and it has a supermarket called Pam in an indoor centre and this is the best place to shop. It also has an old town which is across the road from the Pam centre and is very nice.
A full range of beauty and relaxation treatments are available to book with our therapist to help you relax and unwind.
Enjoy an authentic Italian experience at the local olive oil mill. The mill dates back to 1421 and is still in use to this day.
This wonderful experience of visiting an oil mill is fantastic. First you will have a little tour of the mill and then you go to the family residence where you will enjoy a fresh and delicious meal complete with wine made from the grapes from their own vineyard in the courtyard. This is preceded by an opportunity to taste the many variations on their own oils. Particularly remarked upon, are the fennel, lemon, black and white truffle and basil flavoured oils.
Located in a picturesque alpine valley town, the thermal spa offers guests the perfect setting to relax and unwind. The large pool is separated into indoor and outdoor sections, enabling visitors to take in the breath-taking views or gaze up into the night sky. This beautiful spa also boasts Jacuzzis, waterfalls and a steam cave.
The ancients considered the thermal waters to come from the gods, a precious health-giving gift from the mysterious depths of the earth. Today, geologists can explain that the gift is not actually heaven-sent, but a little "miracle" of nature.
The warm waters are in fact rain that fell some 10,000 years ago in the central part of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. During these millennia, the water seeped down into the subsoil and was heated geothermically and enriched with beneficial properties. The water became a concentrate of active natural elements including sulphur, bicarbonate, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, fluorine, chlorine, lithium, manganese, iron and ammonium. It then rose towards the surface along a fault line until it reached Bagno di Romagna where it now flows at temperatures between 39 °C and 47 °C.
The water that now flows out is physiological because it contains active elements that correspond to those of the human body. It is also medicinal and can therefore change and positively influence the conditions of the human body. It is easily tolerated because it has none of the side effects of drugs. Finally, the water at the thermal spa can be used to treat certain diseases and, above all, to prevent them, because it activates the body's natural defenses.
You don’t need to worry about bringing shampoo, hair conditioner or shower gel as we supply all of that. We also supply all the towels including pool towels.
We also supply a welcome basket for your arrival filled with goodies. We have a bar and restaurant/ room service as well as a taxi service available.
If we don’t have the dates available for you please do send us an Enquiry as we have 3 other beautiful apartments.

Freyja purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Freyja chose Caprese Michelangelo
I was lucky enough to have come house hunting at the right time when this property had not yet been advertised and as soon as I saw the view I knew that nothing else would compare.

We loved it
We loved our stay here - Freyja had been extremely helpful and accommodating ahead of our arrival, and this carried through to the very end.
The location is simply beautiful - our villa had an amazing view of the hills and across to Caprese Michelangelo. The area is a bit of an undiscovered gem - some amazing places with very little in the way of tourists - but with some iconic sites within reasonable daily travel. We made good use of the pool (excellent size and setting), the hot tub and the swing bench which was in our garden - chatting into the evening against the backdrop of silence other than the crickets...
The kitchen was ideal for two - gave us the opportunity to eat out at lunchtimes and then make the most of local produce snacking in the evenings! Both Freyja and Malcolm kept the balance of helpfulness with giving us enough space to enjoy - we took up their suggestions of the olive oil tasting (fab afternoon!), and also the Sunday lunch in a local restaurant Caprese Michelangelo - best meal we had on the trip.
Lots to do in the area - possibly too much as we could have easily spent more time enjoying the pool! We loved our stay, and will definitely be back.
It was an absolute pleasure to have you both here. We are all really missing you now so hurry back xxxxx
Lovely farm house B&B
Gorgeous location. Quiet, quaint and peaceful. Freyja and Malcomb made us feel very comfortable. Wish we had stayed longer
It was a pleasure to have you stay and I hope to see you again soon.
My wife & I booked this holiday six months before our intended stay, we researched locations to visit and asked the hosts for walking routes we could do.
The more we discovered the more excited we grew and believe me when I say it exceeded our wildest dreams. We did 4 stunning walks each with breathtaking views we saw wild boar, deer, a porcupine and countless birds of prey. On the days we didn't walk on the hosts' recommendation we visited Cortona where we did wine tasting, we had a day at Cesenatico on the coast and an afternoon tour & taste at an oil mill where we enjoyed a veritable feast accompanied with ample amounts of wine, grappa and good company.
All in all an amazing vacation that left us wanting to experience even more.
Beautiful rustic property in a delightful setting.
Greeted by charming hosts on arrival with a bottle of prosecco!
Lovely location, fabulous pool and traditional style property with antique Italian furniture.
Authentic Tuscan cuisine in the locality at amazing prices, beautiful scenery and atmospheric towns and villages.
Thank you so much. It was a great pleasure to meet you both and I look forward to seeing you again.
A wonderful Place and Fantastic Holiday
We booked the Michelangelo Villa for 8 nights as we wanted to experience Tuscany and this beautiful place did not disappoint. From the welcome on the first day - and yes we did get lost finding it but Freya jumped into a car and came to find us - the villa was just perfect, the views of Caprese Michelangelo and the hills was just breathtaking and instantly we knew this was going to be a fantastic week. Freya and Malcolm are fabulous hosts and go out of their way to ensure you have a great holiday, their knowledge of all the local medieval villages and towns and what to see and do was great. Nothing was a problem, they will book restaurants or advise where to eat if away sight seeing. They will also offer a three course dinner with wine on your day of arrival, lovely touch as this saves you going to find a restaurant the first night, also the welcome basket is the best I have ever seen and certainly was a welcome gesture. The villa we stayed in had a private garden and it was lovely to sit in and off cause the pool was just so welcoming too. At night it was lovely to relax in the courtyard and catch up with everyone over a drink, just perfect. We also did the Olive oil mill tour and tasting and this is organised through Freya who will run you to the mill, this is really good fun and a great afternoon tasting olive oils and wines accompanied with lunch, so I recommend everyone to do this. So summing up a fabulous holiday that went too quick, a beautiful place in a stunning location, made some great friends and once we got back we booked to go back in October. Thank you to you both xx .
First, Malcolm and Freyja are the true gems at TVR. From the first moment we felt welcome and relaxed. The property is beautiful and meticulously groomed. The villas are clean and cozy. The views are straight out of a fantasy. We had a fantastic stay and will be returning. Cheers, Malcolm and Freyja!!
Thank you so so much for this! It was such a pleasure to have you both here and I hope to see you again soon! xxx

Up to 14 people Coast/Beach: Adriatic coast is only 50 min away and the wonderful port of Cesenatico is a great place to visit with its harbour full of boats and restaurants. Glorious beaches of golden sand. Travel: Easy access from most UK airports and only 45 min drive from Perugia Airport via Ryanair from London Stansted. Rimini 1 hour. Distances: Anghiari 15 min Cortona 1 hour Florence 90 min Rome 2 hours Further Details: The beautiful village of Caprese Michelangelo is where the great artist Michelangelo Buonarotti was born in 1475 and lived. The little chapel where he was baptised is still in the village and his home is now a museum which is set in the hilltop fortification of old Caprese, the castle of Michelangelo. In the local Abbey there are historical records which show that Villa Michelangelo was previously owned by the Vatican and housed monks for the monastery at La Verna which is approx 18 km away by road. It states that the monks built a tunnel between the Villa and the monastery and that a church once stood here also. Although we have not yet found the tunnel we hope that one day someone will find it. The area has many great local restaurants and supermarkets.
