Luxury pet free cottage in hamlet of Spring End, 1.5miles from Gunnerside. This spacious 2 bed cottage has been beautifully restored to retain all the character of a Dales cottage with central heating and modern facilities you want for a comfortable holiday. With 2 large double bedrooms, Bed1 with king size bed and additional single bed and Bed2 with a super king bed which can be made up as a twin, it offers options for couples or families. The beautiful living room with leather sofa has TV, DVD, Freeview, WiFi and iPod docking station - perfect for winter evenings in front of the cosy stove. Whilst the luxury kitchen with flagged floor and farmhouse table is great for a family dinner or cup of tea after a day on the hills. Gorgeous photos of the area taken by the owner are in all the rooms. The beautifully kept garden is lovely for sitting out, and has a swing, and climbing frame. All linen and towels provided. Private parking for 3 cars. This property is not suitable for smokers or pets

About Sarah Wilson

Sarah and Gordon have been the proud owners of Joe House for the past 10 years during which time we have lovingly restored this beautiful property. Much of the work has been done ourselves, with Gordon learning the skills of lime plastering amongst others. When more technical skills were required we have used the great local craftsmen of Swaledale - who have never let us down!

We live in West Yorkshire with our daughter, Ella who loves the cottage, especially the park in Reeth and throwing stones into the river Swale.

We hope people will fall in love with both Swaledale and Joe House as we did - it is a stunning location.

We have always loved Swaledale - it is a very special place. Joe House allows us to enjoy the area from a fabulous location with all the comforts of home but surrounded by the true character of the Dales. We visit Joe House regularly with our family and friends and so we make sure it is equipped with everything we might need for our stay - which means it will be perfect for you too. We have a high proportion of repeat guests, who continually tell us how wonderful Joe House is and has become to them and their families.

What makes this cottage unique

Joe House is a unique property which has foundations dating from the 15th century but includes refurbishment done through the centuries, including plenty of Victorian character - anyone with an interest in the architecture of the Dales will find plenty to talk about.

The refurbishment work we have done and the furnishings give a perfect mix of old and new - so you can feel the character but enjoy the comfort of modern facilities.

We have filled the house with books and maps to help you explore the area, as well as toys for the kids when you want to stay nearby.

We are also happy to give guidance on local walks and attractions to help you plan your stay.

It is perfectly located in a secluded spot but gives great access to other areas in the Dales and is walkable to the local pub.

Notes on accommodation: Changeover Friday to Friday, prices for long weekends available on request. Basket of logs and coal provided for stove. Free Wifi available. Flexible changeover dates available out of school holidays and for Christmas & New Year Outside: Beautifully kept private garden with views to the countryside and plenty of local wildlife - birds, pheasants, rabbits and if you are lucky our resident hedgehog. Outdoor furniture is kept in the store for your use along with a selection of outdoor toys. The store can be used to put bikes or other outdoor items. There is a swing and climbing frame in the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Luxury linen and towels are included - the property is cleaned at the end of the stay. For stays longer than one week an additional clean can be requested for an extra fee. Other: The externally accessed lockable store houses the outside furniture, and a selection of toys and games, and is perfect for storing bikes or prams

a charming and beautiful cottage set in wonderful countryside.the property was clean and well maintained and had all the equipment you would need for a long or short stay. only stayed for 2 nights but did go to the local pub the kings head in gunnerside for a meal which was very nice,and reasonably priced. sarah the owner gave us all the the directions to the property and there was a information pack when we arrived which had everything you needed to know about the cottage and the surrounding area.would recommend this place to my family and friends and will hopefully come back soon.

Lovely cottage

Joe House is a lovely cottage, well equipped and tastefully done. Our girls loved the swing outside although it needs to be reset as it was quite wobbly and about to pull out of ground completely.

It's a very cozy place and we enjoyed our stay. The stairs are very steep. Our four year olds feel a couple of times but we're fine.

All in all a great stay. Thanks.

From A1 north take Catterick junction, follow the tank road to B6270 for Reeth.

From A1 south take Richmond junction and drive through Richmond onto B6270 for Reeth.

Follow B6270 through Gunnerside and take left turn over cattle grid. Follow the single track lane for approx 3/4 mile, before next cattle grid, turn left onto rough gravel track. Keep left at bottom towards wooden gate into grass parking area.

(30-40 minutes drive from A1)


1.5 miles from the village of Gunnerside, Swaledale.

Muker 3 kms, Reeth 11 kms, Richmond 25 kms.

Hawes, a pretty market town in Wensleydale 16 kms.

Further Details:

Upper Swaledale is the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales and is spectacular and unspoilt. It is renowned by photographers for the field barns and meadow flowers in June. And is full of the historic sites of Yorkshires lead mining past. It is a wonderful place to relax and to tour by foot, bike or car. There are many pubs and tearooms in the local villages. Nearby Muker has a craft shop and art gallery too. The market towns of Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes and Kirkby Stephen are all within 30 minutes drive.

The Coast to Coast footpath and the Pennine way cross each other on the north side of the valley from Joe House.
