Charming thatched cottage in Somerset
Atherstone Farm Cottage is a secluded, newly refurbished two-bed thatched cottage in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, in Somerset.
The cottage is part of an old, but now largely disused, listed farm courtyard, and has been part of the Dillington Estate since 1725.
With its ancient beams, stone floor and thatched roof, the house is a perfect romantic country cottage, but is now refurbished to a high standard, with a modern kitchen, bathrooms and entertainment system.
The house has two bedrooms, both en-suite, one has a freestanding cast-iron bath and walk-in shower, the other a walk-in wetroom shower.
The property has an eat-in kitchen, with a separate utility room containing a washer/dryer, fridge freezer and ice machine, and a large stone-floored living and dining room, with a wood-burning stove, large flatscreen TV and bluetooth soundsystem.
The house is accessed just off the A303 and has parking for 2 cars, or Crewkerne train station is a 15 minute drive, and Castle Cary/ Taunton stations are a 30 minute drive each.
Atherstone is a short way from the villages of Stocklinch and Whitelackington, and is a beautiful 45 minute walk from the Barrington Boar pub in Barrington, or a short drive from other lovely local pubs like the Dinnington Docks and Lord Poulett Arms. Also nearby are Dillington House and the National Trust house of Barrington Court.
The cottage is in the heart of Somerset cider country and the Temperley's Cider Brandy Company at Burrow Hill and Perry's Cider Brewery and Museum are both nearby.
The old market town of Ilminster is also nearby, with its beautiful 15th Century hamstone church, Arts Centre and Warehouse to mention the practical benefits of its butcher, baker, Coop, Tesco and other shops (although Waitrose in Crewkerne will also deliver).

The perfect antidote to our hectic lives!
We arrived frazzled after a very busy few weeks at home. From the minute we walked through the door of the cottage we relaxed. Lamps lit, warm, provisions in the kitchen, flowers in a vase.
The cottage is full of period features without skimping anywhere on comfort or quality.
A luxurious bathroom, a bed made with care, a wood-burning stove and peace.
We wanted for nothing more.
Amazing cottage in the heart of the west country
All the charm of a centuries old thatched roof farm cottage but with the amenities of the 21st century. Lovely touches throughout make this rental seem so cosy and welcoming. Great kitchen to cook in, lots of places to entertain, or slip away to read. 2 great large bedrooms with lots of storage and modern bathrooms. WC downstairs for guests and a great open plan dining room and living room with blazing fire and flat screen TV. Lovely garden where we sat and had a glass of wine as the kids played safely like maniacs. Perfect. Just very comfortable all around for a family with kids or 2 couples. We would rent again here in a heartbeat. Very good communication w owners and the fresh flowers and personal touches evident when we first stepped in the door made it even better.....
Beautiful old cottage, renovated to a very high standard. Had everything we wanted. Couldn't fault in any way.
