About Anne Armstrong, Dave Armstrong, Victoria Armstrong

After more than 30 years of teaching we retired at Christmas (2011) and invested in a little piece of rural tranquillity. We have always enjoyed holidays in the Lake District and this lodge overlooking Duke's Pond was perfect. We enjoy walking, cycling and watching the wildlife.

Anne Armstrong, Dave Armstrong, Victoria Armstrong purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Anne Armstrong, Dave Armstrong, Victoria Armstrong chose Penrith, East Lakes & Eden Valley

Dukes Pond is in a perfect location to access all that the Lake District offers, yet is in a really peaceful location. Dukes Pond is north of Greystoke on the edge of Greystoke Forest and about 15-20 minutes drive from the centres of Penrith and Keswick and all the facilities you would need for a perfect holiday.

What makes this cabin unique

The area is a haven for wildlife, and a wide variety of birds, red squirrels and roe deer can be watched from the lodge. The area is perfect for cycling and C2C routes pass close by. There are also lots of walks from the doorstop, including those through Greystoke Forest. Rowanburn is in a perfect 'get away from it' location, yet offers all the home from home comforts.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a luxuriously lovely lodge...such a warmly welcoming and indulgently comfortable home from home. We have made great friends with the squirrels and birds and will miss them. Holtz Family Shrewsbury April 2012

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and the wonderful poetry in our visitors book. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our lodge. The squirrels are really active right now. It is costing us a fortune to keep them in Hazel nuts! I hope you will be able to visit Rowanburn Lodge again in the future. Kind regards. Dave and Anne Armstrong.

Homely, comfortable and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Wow, loved every minute of it and even better than expected. In the week we were there we travelled all over the Lake District, plus visited Edinburgh, Blackpool and Newcastle. Saw lots of wildlife from the windows of the lodge and when out on the veranda it was great to see sheep and cows in the field just beyond the end of the lane. The pond was an additional bonus. The lodge itself was well stocked with games, books, DVD's and CD's. Had plenty of plates/mugs/glasses etc. along with anything else you would need in a well equipped kitchen, bathroom etc. Very clean and fresh. Had a lovely stay and am hoping to return to see more of what we didn't have time to see within the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Tracy. We are so pleased that you had a really enjoyable stay in our lodge. Nearly all our visitors comment on the wildlife, especially the squirrels, that are seen around the lodge. The Lake District really is a beautiful place and now has World Heritage status. It is also well placed to visit Hadrian's Wall and the Yorkshire Dales. Maybe places to visit in the future. We would love to welcome you back for another holiday. Regards. Dave and Anne Armstrong.

Rowanburn Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet place to stay, which was just what we needed! Lodge is well equipped with plenty of local information, but the lodges could really do with a children's playground area for the kids to let off steam. Plenty of nearby forest walks (they were rally car testing whilst we were there) and there was an abundance of wildlife visiting through the week.

Everything was as described and the property is well looked after. There is a farm shop/cafe just along the A66 towards Keswick and a local shop plus pool and playground in Greystoke Village. Overall, a very enjoyable relaxing stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you could enjoy the peace and tranquillity Rowanburn Lodge can offer and the entertainment provided by the wildlife. The Ford rally team use Greystoke Forest to practice on a few days a year. There are always plenty of stewards around for safety reasons but quite thrilling to watch. Lots of children love to play in the woods behind the lodge. A bit of adventure play instead of a formal play area. Hope you can visit us again sometime in the future. Regards. Dave and Anne Armstrong.

Stunning property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't of been happier with the lodge. Everything we could have asked for and more. Beautiful surroundings and the lodge was clean, very well maintained and was fully stocked with everything we needed. I also found time to read one of the many books that are there.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful time away from the stresses of normal life. Thankyou Dave and Anne for letting us stay
