Trullo Jolly: Luxury Trullo set in an Olive Grove, with pool near Ostuni

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

The Trullo is situated in three acres of grounds on Sessana Grande, in between the towns of Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica. The area itself is regarded as a prime location embedded in an undulating rural landscape of olive, fruit and almond trees. The location of “Sessana” is perfect for easy access to all the nearby towns and the seaside. The nearest beach is a 15 minutes drive away. The “white town” of Ostuni is only five minutes away from Sessana. Ostuni is a lively and buzzing town in the Summer months. The old town with its two prominent churches straddles the top of a hill commanding some of the most magnificent views over the ancient olive trees that “carpet” the plain leading to the coast. Ceglie Messapica is equidistant from “Sessana” and has a very different feel to the more lively and upbeat Ostuni. Ceglie, as it is called by the locals, is a beautiful small town with an abundance of incredible restaurants and pretty lively town square.

The Trullo has three bedrooms; the master is en suite and opens onto the terrace. There is a further bathroom with bath on the ground floor and two double bedrooms on the lower ground floor, which share a marble shower room. All bedrooms have been tiled in handmade Italian tiles and are fully furnished. There is also an outdoor shower room next to the pool.

The Trullo has two alcoves which can be used either as a lounge or a sleeping area for children. The trullo has a tv, games, cards, books, dvd player, outdoor projector and fast broadband.

We can accommodate 6 adults and up to 4 children sleeping in the Trullo alcoves.

The kitchen is hand made, with a gas / electric range cooker with rotisserie and smeg fridge, dishwasher and air conditioning unit.

There is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

The covered terrace runs directly in front of the pool looking onto the olive grove, with some fifty trees. There is a lounge/seating area in front of the working fireplace and a dining table area for up to 12 people. The set up is particularly good for families with children.

The pool measures 5 x 10.

The sun terrace surrounding the pool has six sun loungers and a double campaign bed for sun bathing.

The terrace is also enclosed by a traditional style wall, with “English grass” surround.

There is a table tennis table and outdoor cinema area.

The bbq area is situated at the end of the pool and has an outdoor fridge, work area and sink.

There is also a roof terrace for yoga and sun bathing. Steps to the roof terrace are situated at the front and rear of the Trullo.

The entrance to the Trullo is served by electric gates and the house is fully alarmed and serviced by a security company who patrol the area.

We have wonderful house keepers Fran and Pietro, who can make restaurant reservations, organise additional cleaning, stock the house with wonderful local wines and foods, babysitting, massages etc (at an additional cost, payable direct).

Very special sanctuary in idyllic location...

I knew from the photographs that we were in for a treat but my goodness what a discovery! This is the ultimate retreat, oozing style and with intricate attention to detail and intelligent functionality. Everything has been carefully considered, the facilities are generous with a faultless quality. From crockery and kitchen equipment to incredibly comfortable beds and exquisite linens, nothing has been overlooked. The aesthetics are to die for, the views from the roof terrace particularly enchanting as the sun goes down. We did yoga every day and also used the terrace as an additional sunbathing area, so very secluded and totally private if you just fancy some quiet time.

Particular praise for the pool, so beautiful and a very comfortable temperature. And very safe if children involved, not too deep and with easy access via gentle steps. The lighting is inspired, with tiny pin lights at floor level and down the sides of the staircase, beautiful lamps dotted around and well-planned lighting around the terrace and pool area. Proper meaningful showers and everything is scrupulously clean.

There's a comprehensive and eclectic choice of reading material including contemporary Puglian design books, or for more active pursuits table tennis and a very large trampoline....younger guests will appreciate the provision of two kiddies trikes and the olive grove provides a safe adventure ground to be explored.

Security is state of the art and saving the best for last I cannot praise highly enough the care and attentions of Francesca and Pietro, what lovely hosts and they made our stay so very easy. As for the local restaurants, blimey....just come and find out!

The photographs were enough to entice us to this property but can honestly say they didn't do it enough justice, it was breath taking from the moment the impressive gates open to the moment they closed on our departure.

Firstly, the impeccable taste of the owner shines through in every room, on the terrace and in the gardens...everything is superbly planned out, a perfect mix of tradition meeting modern! Great use of fabrics, art and those extra little touches that gives this property its immense style...

Secondly putting aside the pleasing aesthetics the practical side is also second to none! well appointed kitchen with everything you need to hand. Bed linen, pillows, towels etc are all of the best quality.

Thirdly and unexpectedly the weather in October was fantastic! we swam in the pool, did Yoga on the roof terrace and ate lunch on the terrace each day (there is also an outside bar-b-que but we didn't get around to that) so a perfect winter holiday in the most stunning surroundings, set in an olive grove an abundance of trees and greenery, a real oasis of peace and tranquillity that would be hard to beat!

Lastly, the surrounding areas are a delight to visit for evenings out. We ate in different restaurants each evening, all were superb ranging from top class to traditional trattoria's, so menu's to suit all tastes and pockets. The owners give a very comprehensive list of their favourites so the choice is immense....

Finally, the assistance of the housekeepers, Francesca & Pietro was like having your own concierge!

They are there to assist in every way but not on site to bother you, so will be on hand as often (or not) as you wish. Will book restaurants, massages etc but also give advice on where to go and what's on locally ...

All in all a perfect winter break that will most certainly be repeated next summer (if not before).

Magical holiday at Trullo Jolly

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a party of 6 at trullo Jolly in July 16.

The house is beautifully appointed and luxuriously finished, with marble bathroom and hand made tiles, featured throughout.

We loved the covered terrace where we would relax, eat and look over the amazing green pool and olive grove.

We love to cook and the quality of the produce sourced locally is incredible. The kitchen and bbq area were great to cook in and fully equipped.

Ceglie and Ostuni, the nearby towns to the trullo have a wide array of perfect restaurants from Michelin starred to local trattorias. The food is incredible everywhere.

Beaches and beach bars are only twenty minutes away from the trullo. We particularly liked White Beach in Torre Canne.

We would like to thank the caretakers Fran and Pietro who looked after us so well and were great with recommendations. They also arranged a chef for us one night (at an additional cost) which was beyond delicious.

We would thoroughly recommend the trullo and surrounding area.

Idillic stay at Trullo Jolly

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Trullo Jolly for a week last summer. We knew the trullo would be stunning from the photos provided and were not dissapointed! The cave wall was unexpected and incredible, the beds were super comfortable, the bathrooms are opulent and the kitchen is well equipped and elegantly styled. This luxuriously furnished property has everything you need for a peaceful stay with the family or friends.

The location within the olive grove was ultimately restful and idillic; perfect for spending a private, relaxing day by the pool in complete peace and quiet. The outdoor grill and ping pong table were great fun extras! For dining in at the Villa, supermarkets with incredible deli produce are only 5 minutes drive away.

Trullo Jolly is perfectly positioned trips to local villages and towns. The local town of Ostuni is picturesque and full of incredible restaurants for traditional Puglian cuisine, sophisticated dining, cocktail bars and gelatoria's. Do not miss out on Osteria del tempo perso; we ate there on our last night and it was our favourite meal of the holiday. Book well in advance for the main dining room.

A personal favourite of the local towns was the historic centre of Cisternino with it's narrow streets and white washed walls. We were lucky enough to visit on the same evening as a local festival of live music- the atmosphere was fantastic! Lecce is also well worth a visit to see the Roman amphitheater and impressive baroque buildings.

Francesca and Pietro the property managers were extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming, they helped us to feel at home as soon as we arrived. The property is perfectly maintained and spotlessly clean.

We would definitely recommend Trullo Jolly to friends and family and would love to visit again!
