About Kate Collet-Fenson

We are the Collet-Fenson family - Kate & Duncan, Lucy and Charlie. We live and work in Buckinghamshire but love to escape to North Devon at any opportunity. In Bucks we live in a shared house with my parents, who being retired spend much of the year traveling and looking after Lantern House on our behalf. As a family we love to ski but have found that surfing is a great deal more affordable and practical to do on a regular basis. We love Ilfracombe and North Devon for its quirkiness and opportunities, there are some many unexplored areas, secret coves and adventures to be enjoyed, we can't keep away and love to share it with friends and family. We have set up the house with family and friends in mind, so all you need to do is turn up!

Kate Collet-Fenson purchased this house in 2007

Why Kate Collet-Fenson chose North Devon

We bought Lantern House in 2007 because as a family we love surfing, paddle boarding, sailing and dog walking. We have spent many happy holidays at Lantern House and my brother and his family have re-located to Ilfracombe because we have had so much fun there over the years.

We are a 3 generation family and have kitted the house out to suit all ages, it is a great party house and works really well for self catering groups. Ilfracombe is perfectly located for a mixed group holiday. There is access to rock pool, bucket & spade beaches in the town and then a short drive away you are at the award winning surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde and just a few miles from the rugged beauty of Exmoor National Park.

What makes this house unique

Being on the edge of the town, we have the convenience of shops, cinema, swimming pool, tennis court, crazy golf, pitch and putt and seaside fun all within a short walk. We have on-site car-parking, right next door and a bus stop outside the house. We often find that we park the car and don't move it for a week!

The house is kitted out for big family groups and we pride ourselves in the how well equipped the house is. We aim to ensure you can cater for up to 18, with big pans, dishes and plenty of crockery and cutlery, plenty of storage, fridge space etc. We also have filled the house with fun, so that should you have the "odd" wet day there is plenty to keep all generations amused and happy.

Dogs are very welcome - dog walking in the area is amazing.

Wonderful 60th celebration for friends...

  • 5 of 5

Firstly, the owners were extremely helpful and accommodating: friendly and supportive throughout the booking. Thank you. The house was really well equipped and worked brilliantly - great location, loads of parking, great dining table and games room. Good to be able to walk easily into town and down to see Verity - but still quiet. Great combination. The views to the sea are lovely, and a good spot for getting to coastal walks.

Beautiful house, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Lantern House is huge, there was 11 of us (ages 61 to 2) holidaying for a week, we weren't under each others feet at all. The playroom was used by all of us at some stage during the week, with so many toys for the smaller children and the billiard table for the bigger ones !! The position of the house in Ilfracombe was perfect for walking to the harbour or straight down to the town, saved a fortune of parking !! Will certainly be returning

Overall a lovely house

  • 4 of 5

Lovely property with stunning views just needs a little attention here and there, mouldy shower curtain, had to clean patio furniture before use, loose tap in bathroom, cobwebs on chandeliers but overall a lovely house with a spacious homely feel with lots of indoor activities for all ages. We all had a lovely holiday and would come back again

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had our families staying here for our wedding at Tunnels Beaches. it is huge! worked great, loads of room, toy rooms, to either sit together of have your own time.

We had a post wedding BBQ which it was ideal for.

Stairs are really steep and there's lots of them, 66 i think the kids counted numerous times. Only say this as had my 87 year old Nanna there at the BBQ, not staying, but it is difficult for toilet access which is up a flight of stairs. Just in case you have less able bodied people with you. All of Ilfracombe/ Devon is like this really though.

But it was ideal for us. We loved it. Great communication and would highly recommend.

Great location and very helpful owners.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location with the most accommodating owners. I could not fault this accommodation in any way and would most definitely stay again. The house itself is very spacious with lovely views over the harbour and walking distance to shops and harbour.

Value for money

  • 3 of 5

We were a party of 12 with a mix of all age groups from 9 to 85. The house is spacious and in a good position with car parking, and the harbour is only a 10 minute walk down hill through the park. The games room was a plus for the kids making use of the pool table. The house though is 'tired' and needs updating but to be fair this is reflected in the price.
