Awesome seaside location!
We stayed at Surf View #8 very recently. This is a very comfortable Condo with great ocean views. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep every night. The unit itself is very well appointed and has dishes, cutlery, cooking gear .... everything that you would need for preparing meals and bevies.
There is a constant breeze through the numerous windows so air conditioning is not required. There are fans in the living room and the bedroom.
A saltwater pool is shared with other Surf View condo owners and we used it every day.
ZED's Surf School is right next door. They have an award from National Geographic that says Zed's is one of the world's top rated surf schools. Kite surfers are visible every day. We also went to the weekly Zed's barbecue night ... a great meal.
The local 'ZR' buses will take you on a thrilling ride for $2 Barbados to Oisten's or Bridgetown. Oisten's has a fish market where you can purchase fresh fish daily and there's a fish fry at Oisten's that is well worth the trip (10 minutes or so).
Grocery basics are available close by at Buffy's and if you want a full supermarket type store you'll find it in Oisten's.
That same ZR bus will drop you off at the entrance to 'The Gap' if you are looking for nightlife and you can grab one of the plentiful cabs to bring you home.
We rented a car for four of the days that we were there to explore the island. Be aware that in Barbados you drive on the left. Also, if you send me a dollar for every time that you turn on the windshield wipers when your intent was to use the blinkers, I'll be able to afford another round trip airfare!
All in all, this is a wonderful, quiet spot to stay and we'd recommend it.
Will we be back? You bet!
As good, or better, than expected......
The unit is exactly as described, and its location on the beach is ideal...... great sun angles, steady tradewinds breezes and pleasing surf sounds. Everything needed is provided..... including a great bed, dependable wifi and a super nice shared swimming pool. The owner is very helpful and forthcoming with lots of valuable info. In short, you will not be disappointed !!
Dave & Gunilla were a pleasure to have as guests in our Barbados villa. They were very open and eager to explore our Island . We consider them the ideal type of renters and would hope they return in the future.
A picture perfect place for your home base while visiting Barbados
We chose This charming place for our stay in Barbados based on the reviews we read on VRBO and it did indeed meet all that was promised. It is very well appointed to meet all our needs, a comfortable bed, kitchen utensils galore and a most helpful owner (easily accessible by email) along with friendly staff and guests and/or owners in other units.
This was a delightful place to stay for our Barbados visit – beautiful views, swimming in warm clear water, meals on either the front or back patio depending on where the sun was, easy walking distance to pick up basic supplies or to catch a ZR bus further afield.
We highly recommend this property for couples (with or without a car) as your base from which to enjoy Barbados.
barbados, a surf view review
Looking back at our stay brings back the sites and sounds of daily life from our rental patio. Every morning seemed to start focused at that area as the sun and birds beamed through while our coffee brewed. The waves crashing while the locals bathe in the small protected bay, the sea spray hinting that the surf riders will have another great day, while the birds sing for whatever they can get. Don't turn your back or your bread or fruit may be taken- right from the table or fruit bowl! Morning was a great way to prepare for the day- wake and smile.
We would then head to the Super Center or the fish market in Oistens to plan our meals. Our favourite sites were St Lawrence Gap where you had a choice Brazilian food or delicious food at Cafe Sol. I also really recommend Cool Runnings and they even come and pick you up.
The suite at Surf View was perfect for our needs. The ocean view off the big patio, a kitchen and grill to cook our flying fish from the market, wine glasses to celebrate our gratitude for visiting this paradise and wonderful locals like Ollie who can give you an island tour, Trevor to go deep sea fishing with, the fruit lady who shows up on Tuesdays and the rest of the wonderful staff, Sandra and Ian, who made our stay enjoyable and were very informative.
Make sure you read the books about Barbados as it has a rich and important history, for better or worse to what it has become today. From slavery to deforestation, brigands and chattel homes, all are part of its past. Bridgetown was an important base for progress in plantations throughout the Caribbean and has a profitable beginning for its owners and many sad stories of slave uprisings as well.
Being here was perfect for location, safe and quiet as well as scenic, it has all the advantages of peace and serenity, just far enough away to be remote but close enough to what matters. Enjoy your stay at Surf View, best vacation site away from home.
A wonderful location and a perfect place to call home for our holidays in Barbados
My husband and I have stayed here last four years over Christmas and New Year and they have been some of the most relaxing and peaceful holidays we have experienced! Cooking and eating the local food is an adventure, with such beautiful fish available from the Oistins fish market, and delicious fresh local vegetables, salads, fruits delivered to the door by Teresa who comes by every couple of days, and every manner of Bajan delicacy on our doorstep in the markets at Oistins and Bridgetown.
This rental has everything that we need to make most of our food, and to host our local friends for drinks and dinners on the lovely terrace with a most beautiful view of the ocean. The china, crystal and cookware are all excellent quality and the cupboard comes stocked with some of the essentials. The unit is spacious for two, with comfy sofa and chairs to read, a table to work on, and a outdoor furniture for sunning on the terrace. We are lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves in the large and comfortable bed, and wake with the sun.
Local swimming is protected and safe, and we are delighted to watch the surfers, wind and kite surfers performing their acrobatic feats out in the bay. The local palms, flowers and gardens are delightful, and the pool is crystal clear and immaculately clean. Proximity to the airport is an added plus. And Surf View makes an ideal base to explore the Island, particularly the scenic east coast and Scotland district, and the interior gardens at Andromeda, Hunts, and the Flower Forest, which are our favourite locales for walking and experiencing the local history, geography, and seeing colourful Island flora and fauna. Another artist friend and I spend time drawing and painting when we are here, and we never tire of local views and subjects.
The owners are very helpful and make sure that their guests are well taken care of, and they are readily available (by email), as are other owners (if they are onsite), to help with local information and advice as needed. After your first day you will fall into the rhythm of daily life and feel as if you live there.
Last year we arranged to get married in Barbados, and celebrated our wedding at Sunbury House. We invited our family and local friends to join us for the event, and were able to base ourselves here for our celebrations and honeymoon -- the other residents made a little party for us, and we now feel like honorary citizens of the Island!
Picture perfect rental
This was our first visit to Barbados and we was told about this rental by a friend. It lived up to everything we were told. We were a group of 7 and rented 4 different units all the units were nice, however I would have to say that unit 8 (ours)was the best. It's location gives you a constant breeze thru the unit and the view is spectacular. We got together for meals every night and everyone congregated at our place. The kitchen had plenty everything you needed even for a group of 7. We had a great time around the pool, which is kept very clean. We used the beach as well, water a bit rough but very nice non the less. There is a local that came daily with fresh veggies and fruit to buy. A cleaning lady comes to the unit to clean during your stay. As a group we used public transportation to go everywhere, 5 minute walk to catch the bus or ZR. We went to the Friday night fish fry in Oistin really enjoyed that. We took the bus to several different beaches all were great. We went on the Cool Runnings catamaran excursion $90, well worth the money, snorkeling, food, rum and taxi to pick you up and take you back. We would definitely go back and this unit would be our pick. Bert is a wealth of island knowledge and lead us in all the right directions, just needed more time to do it all...next time!
