Mr John Munk
About Mr John Munk
We live and work in Bristol and have busy city lives. We have a teenage daughter and two sons whom no longer live at home. We sold a bolt hole in France to invest in our 'little bit of heaven', in Cornwall, April Cottage!! When we saw the cottage we knew it would suit everyone for what they wanted from a break from work or home, different from the cottage in France! We spend as much time as possible at April Cottage and find we relax as soon as we arrive and book our favourite fish restaurant, where you choose from the catch of that day with hunks of fresh soft bread to soak up the juices! We spend hours sitting on the terrace soaking up the views and the activity around the harbour. We also have a house in Slovenia, that is absolutely brilliant for Family summer and winter holidays; if you are interested, do call me or visit "think Slovenia" click onto Mountains and Lakes, then" Gorska Hisa. You will find all you need to know about the property and location.
Mr John Munk purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Mr John Munk chose Falmouth
We had been searching for a property but none had the magic of April Cottage. We were transfixed by the views of boats bobbing in the water, the harbour and the little ferries as they hurried in all directions to a vast array of destinations. The steps down to the property afforded privacy and peace to enjoy the views without interruption. We loved the cottage and knew we could make improvements to make it a perfect relaxing, get away destination. We thought the cottage offered tranquillity away from the road and yet it is a stones throw from the cobbled High Street of Falmouth with its' limited traffic and numerous little shops, bars, restaurants, art galleries, and festival events in Millennium square, especially, for my teenage daughter who enjoys her independence around the town.
What makes this Cottage unique
We enjoy sitting with a glass of wine and having a barbecue on the front terrace soaking up the views until it is dark and the lights twinkle on the water from the harbour and village of Flushing across the estuary. And none of those muddy estuaries to look out on when the tide is out!! During the summer, at least twice a week, you can watch sailing races right in front of the cottage; very colourful. We like being able to park our car and then take little ferries/boats/buses/trains to a vast array of different destinations including, St Mawes on the Roseland Penninsular, known for its' beauty, Truro, the beautiful Georgian city, Smugglers Cove, picturesque pubs up the Helford River, local sandy beaches, safer and smaller with the beach cafés serving delicious food or, across to the larger rugged and dramatic north coast surfing beaches. It's the cosiness of the fires during those winter months after an invigorating beach walk & picnics till late in summer at the beach.

A winter break paradise
House was Ab Fab. Much bigger than we imagined and a real home from home. The views from the front lounge and two front bedrooms are amazing.
The house is a short 5/6 mins walk down hill to a lovely bar/restaurant (The Star and Garter) with wonderful views over Falmouth harbour. The High Street is a further 5 mins walk with lots of bars and restaurants to choose from.
The house is a fantastic base to explore South West Cornwall and lovely home to return to after a busy day sightseeing.
All in all we had a great time and would love to stay at Rose Cottage again very soon. John the owner sent us some very comprehensive instructions which were very easy to follow. Whilst we were there we had early morning frost on three consecutive morning (scraping ice off the car windscreen) but the house remained lovely and warm set at 22c!!!
I’m happy to unreservedly recommend Rose Cottage to anyone looking for a wonderful Cornish holiday.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, which are much appreciated. Just one small detail, it's actually April cottage!!! I could not have described the cottage better myself, and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
April Cottage was a joy - Has everything to be “home from home” with the very considerable bonus of one of the best views of Falmouth harbour/ Estuary which was especially pleasant first thing sitting out on terrace .
Very peaceful as one of 5 stand-alone cottages but only a few minutes walk into town - which we did countless times as no call to use car once parked-up.
Communication with owners has been friendly and quick responses much appreciated.
Would be very happy to return.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage, and your comments are much appreciated. you have described the cottage's unique features very nicely.
Lovely well maintained property with great views. Parking can be a problem as streets very narrow
Many thanks for your kind, and succinct comments!!! much appreciated. as per our previous guests, I'm sure that minor parking issues are insignificant compared to the great location.
We loved being at April Cottage. The views were amazing and the cottage beautifully decorated to create a homely but tasteful experience. The bedrooms were spacious and adequate for five people. The house was clean and inviting although wouldn't want to do much cooking (but then we had no intention with being on holiday). Car parking space was limited but we usually found one somewhere and didn't mind walking. definitely not a place for anyone with physical disabilities as they would be challenged. A great sense of wellbeing was felt by all. Thank you John and Debbie.
Thank you for your kind comments. I agree with you about the parking, and disability access, and these are addressed on the website, so hopefully no surprises for guests; I will say, however, that the very minor parking issues, are massively outweighed by the location and tranquillity of the cottage. Very glad you enjoyed your stay.
We couldn't have been more excited when we entered this lovely property overlooking Falmouth Harbour. The views are spectacular, the location conveniently located on foot, albeit hilly roads, to the charming center of town, packed with shops, restaurants and tourist attractions.
The bed is comfortable with quality linens, the kitchen is loaded with every amenity, the living area is inviting it its décor and ambiance.
The owners are attentive and quick to respond to inquiries. Be aware, for those with disabilities, the bedrooms and bath are located upstairs and the property requires a trek down two flights of stone steps to reach the house. Once there, it is heavenly.
Whether walking or driving Falmouth and its surrounding quaint towns offers more than one could imagine. It's well worth a visit. We stayed two weeks but would have booked longer had we known how enjoyable it would be.
What can I say!!! You have distilled everything good about the cottage and the location, in a few short sentences.
Thank you so much.
April Cottage, is a beautiful house, home from home. Quiet peaceful location, outstanding views.
Our third visit to April Cottage, a beautiful house, a fully equipped home from home. Quiet peaceful location on a hidden pedestrian way with outstanding views. Very close to Falmouth town and beaches, so everything is within walking distance. Just perfect.
Many thanks, again, for your very kind comments, and thank you for booking your 3rd year!!! really appreciated. You will be welcome anytime!!
The coastline around the Cornish coast is said to be one of the most beautiful. We have several sandy beaches the first within a 5 min drive, called Gyllinvase which also boasts an excellent café/restaurant. The next local beach is Swanpool, about a ten minute drive, and this too has a small café. The next beach is at Maenporth. Again this is sandy and is a 15 min drive. The restaurant, Indaba is situated up on rocks above the beach and serves excellent food. This coast has smaller safer bays.
Use of a car in Falmouth is not essential due to our close proximity to the centre and the excellent transport links to so many local places, especially by boat. Newquay is the closest airport, on the north Cornish coast. Exeter, 100 miles away, is the closest international airport. Plymouth cross channel port is 60 miles from Falmouth by road. There are excellent train links from London Paddington to Truro, with a links to Plymouth and Exeter. Falmouth has its own local railway station.
Falmouth is well situated and has an excellent public transport network allowing guests to travel around Cornwall very easily. Flushing, the village seen opposite April Cottage is easily accessed in a few minutes by a regular little ferry, as is St Mawes, Truro, Smugglers Cove, The Helford Passage. St Ives, Truro and many other places are accessed also by bus and/or train. The Eden Project is about 40 mins drive. Other north coast surfing beaches are only 25 mins drive away.
Falmouth is a thriving community with a wide selection of pubs, restaurants, cafés, banks and supermarkets within easy walking distance. Falmouth boasts many art galleries, museums, swimming pool, boat trips, beaches and other places of interest and all within a short distance.
