About Kate Brierley

I am Kate Brierley, the owner of Giverny. I spent 30 years taking Villa and Gite holidays with my late husband Trevor and, whilst we have had some good experiences we have generally been disappointed with the standards of self catering accommodation. When we decided to move from England to France we set ourselves some exacting standards. We wouldn't accept less and this is how Giverny, and the Cottage at Giverny came about.

Kate Brierley purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Kate Brierley chose Perigord Vert

This is a very wonderful part of France which I fell in love with as soon as I saw it. There are many beautiful hamlets, villages and towns on the doorstep of this holiday cottage. Bourdeilles is the closest with Brantome only 20 mins drive to the North. To the south is the magnificent town of Perigueux. The area is ideal for many outdoor activities including cycling, rock climbing, canoing, fishing and walking. It also a superb opportunity for simply driving on the quiet roads and exploring the many easily accessible points of interest in the area.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is set at the end of a small road with no passing traffic in the beautiful Dordogne countryside. Take a relaxing holiday in a cottage with your own private pool in this delightful part of France with birds and wildlife abound in the natural woodland.

I find the peace & tranquility within the grounds takes me away from the stresses of everyday life, while Bourdeilles under 3km away provides me with good restaurants, bars & general shops. A truly wonderful haven. I am so very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

WHEN CAN I GO BACK?

  • 5 of 5

It was clean, the welcome pack was fantastic and so was the welcome after a long drive. It was like being in a retreat, calm, peaceful and the most beautiful scenery that I have ever seen. The pool was warm and clean and it was great that we had it to ourselves. Fantastic Place

FABULOUS STAY (ONCE AGAIN) AT GIVERNY.

  • 5 of 5

Giverny is set in an amazing location away from the usual holiday spots, yet only a five minute drive down to beautiful village of Bourdeilles and a little further to Brantome. A great location for travelling to see other towns and villages in the Dordogne area and beyond. Great cottage with all mod cons as expected, with large private pool set in well kept gardens.

Excellent family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The property was well maintained and clean with a very useful welcome food hamper - perfect after a long journey. Facilities were also great with a fabulous large swimming pool and games room, great for children and adults alike. The owners are great hosts - their friendly dog a bonus for our 8 year old! Lovely views plus enjoyed late nights star gazing with dark skies and warm evenings...Close by are Brantome and Bourdeilles with river canoes a firm favourite! We had a lovely holiday here and hope to return. Thanks from all of us!

Gorgeous week

  • 5 of 5

'It was epic!' 'Amazing!' '5 stars!'. The reaction of my 11 year old and 8 year old when I asked them for a review! Thank you!!

Kate and Nick couldn't have been more helpful, the welcome pack was amazing and everything we might have needed had been thought of. We kayaked, went round Bourdeilles castle, did Brantome (very good glaces!), limestone caves and a lot of chilling in the utterly gorgeous and serene garden, games room and pool at Giverny. Possibly less serene with us in it! but the perfect holiday base for us. Can't recommend highly enough. Thanks to you both from all four of us xx

A Tranquil Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Giverny although we have visited the area a few times before. Kate and Nick live next door and are discreet hosts. The property is of a high standard and very well maintained. Everything was exactly as described on the website. The one thing to note is that a couple of ceilings are low so you need to mind your head!

The pool, terrace and view are stunning and cleaned daily. The area around Giverny is rural France at its best with quiet lanes that you can cycle or walk. We have no hesitation in recommending this tranquil hideaway.

A wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

Due to friends being unable to go on their planned holiday we were offered the chance to stay at Giverny. The cottage is a delightful surprise set in stunning surroundings - countryside for miles but close enough to a local village for fresh croissants! It is homely and beautifully presented. We were welcomed by the friendly owner who had also provided a sumptuous welcome pack so we could just chill as soon as we arrived. We loved just being able to spend time on the property, in the garden, by the pool - we did swim but it was a bit chilly! Kate also provided lots of information in the cottage so we could eat at restaurants and cafes already tried and tested and recommended. The lovely thing about the cottage and the area is that you can do as much or as little as you want. The surrounding Perigord countryside has a lot to explore. Maybe we will see more when we return next year - yes we have already re-booked to return to Giverny.
