Kirkby Stephen Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottages in Thwaite, upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, England - Beautifully decorated and spacious houses in spectacular surroundings

Greystones is an attractive cottage, with its own little rear garden with views towards Kisdon. With central heating and open fire, it is a warm, comfortable cottage, with lovely leather sofas, dining kitchen, utility room for muddy boots, three light, airy bedrooms and roomy bathroom. NOTE, please send Enquiry, instead of Request to Book.

The living room is spacious and cosy, with open fire (as well as central heating). The dining kitchen has full size dishwasher and fridge and there is a full size freezer and washer/dryer in the adjoining utility room.

Upstairs, the main bedroom is tastefully decorated, with kingsize bed in the spaciouse room. Another twin room and a further sgle room complete the three bedrooms.

Also upstairs, a very spacious bathroom, with cast iron bath and separate shower.

Stockdale Cottage has two separate living rooms (each with open fire and TV, avoiding arguments!) and large dining kitchen. Three spacious bedrooms and a good-sized bathroom, complete the picture of a home from home. A small cobbled area at the rear, with garden furniture, is the perfect place to sit and admire beautiful Kisdon.

Both living rooms have leather furniture, and open fires (coal included), and storage heaters.

The dining kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, with fridge/freezer (freezer compartment is bigger than an icebox, but about half the size of a full size freezer) and washing machine (there are clothes lines to the rear of the cottage where clothes can be hung out).

Upstairs are 3 roomy bedrooms; master bedroom has kingsize bed. Another dble bedroom at the back, and a twin bedroom mean the cottage can sleep up to 6. A very roomy bathroom is also found upstairs, with cast iron bath and separate shower.

Cottages can be booked together to sleep 11 (cottages are next door to each other). Free wifi at both cottages. Dogs welcome at Stockdale. We welcome short breaks, including 2 nt breaks, which are £15 less than 3 nt price. Saturday changeover.

Greystones is a huge favourite of Martin and Fiona, regular visitors; Martin proposed to Fiona as they arrived for a holiday, managing to secrete the ring in the keysafe! They returned a few months later to be married at Richmond, and invited Shirley and Peter, owners, and Judith and Martin, managers, to celebrate their wedding. So if you want a romantic cottage holiday, Greystones is the place for you!

About Judith Dower

Stockdale Cottage is the cottage which has been our family home for generations. We live locally and try to visit regularly to maintain, decorate and update our lovely properties. We try our best to make our cottages as warm and welcoming as we can. We love beautiful Swaledale and hope our guests will love the area and the houses as much as we do.

Judith Dower purchased this cottage in 1949

Why Judith Dower chose England

There are many walks direct from the door, all amid the stunning landscape of Swaledale. The only crowds you'll find here are flocks of sheep and a few cows! Breathe in the invigorating air and admire the wonderful meadow flowers and stone barns and walls. Explore the single-track roads with amazing views overlooking the dale and relax with a pint of locally-brewed real ale at one of the cozy nearby pubs.

Lovely cottage, warm, clean, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at the cottage at the end of October. The cottage had everything that we needed, it was very clean and cosy and very warm, with open fires, wood and coal. The kitchen window overlooks the hills and out own flock of sheep. There is a pub nearby and many walks from the door (including onto the Pennine Way). In a quiet and beautiful location this was a really relaxing break. The beds are so comfortable, big bathroom with bath and shower, two small lounges both with TVs, nice kitchen. We spent our days running in the hills, hiking, sitting by the fire and eating both in and out (chip van delivers on Friday evening and is worth the wait!).

Spacious, comfortable and a great location away from it all

  • 4 of 5

Stockdale was a great base for our family of four with plenty of room combined with a fantastic location in the Yorkshire Dales. The property is obviously cleaned regularly and provided all the facilities we needed for our week away.

As a location Thwaite is a good base for the Dales. Don't feel that you need to pay for attractions here as the great outdoors is there for the children (including a public footpath 20 seconds walk away). There's a good walk around the waterfalls in the village of Keld which is two miles away. We also enjoyed a walk in Reeth so it's a good location if you don't want to spend loads of money on attractions.

We also spent a day on Ullwater Lake in the Lake District which took about an hour and a quarter to reach.
