"Gorgeous cottage in a wonderful location." 4* Visit Britain rating. Alastair Sawday recommended. Pretty, Victorian gardener's cottage built in former kitchen garden of Elizabethan Yorke House. The cottage looks over a south-facing private garden with spectacular views of Richmond castle & Billy Banks Woods. 5 mins walk to Market Place, 5 mins to River Swale & woods. Ideal mix of town, with its shops, pubs, restaurants, theater, museums, cinema, castle, parks, abbey & swimming baths, and countryside with walks, cycling, riding & beautiful Swaledale winding its way west of the cottage. The front door opens into a stone flagged passage leading to the garden & kitchen, which is well-fitted. Lounge, kitchen, downstairs loo, two double bedrooms & one twin. Bathroom with bath & separate shower. En suite bathroom to master bedroom. Lovely, light cottage with most windows facing south. Wi-fi. TV/DVD. Radio/CD, Ipod dock. Families welcome. About Marcia McLuckie

Dennis and I live in Richmond by Garden Cottage, which we renovated a few years ago before building ourselves a new home, Mr. Yorke's Walled Garden (named for John Yorke, who built the 18th century walled kitchen garden for his Elizabethan home). We are now busy recovering his overgrown garden, which stretches down the hill in front of our house. This year we shall be opening our garden for the Yellow Book National garden Scheme

We have good knowledge of the town & the Dales, which we can share with our guests, including where the best restaurants, pubs and tea rooms are to be found.

Dennis runs his own business & I run our cottage business, help Dennis with his business and am kept busy looking after the garden.

Our two golden retrievers love the garden & all the local walks. We enjoy walks in the dales, the cinema & theatre as well as time with family and friends.

Richmond is an excellent place to live or for a holiday - it's a great location. Whilst it isn't far from main roads, it's a rural market town and a friendly place to visit. We can walk to shops, restaurants, pubs, cinema, theatre & swimming pool, frequently meeting friends as we go. Strolling to Saturday market, to browse, chat and buy fresh fruit, veg and fish, & visit local shops is a pleasure. Dog walks are great in Richmond - our two golden retrievers love the river, the woods, the walk along the old railway track to the abbey or a gallop around the old racecourse. For days out we have the beautiful dales for walks and rides, fantastic castles, abbies & historic buildings. There's lots to do and we both appreciate the beautiful open spaces in Richmond and the Dales.

Notes on accommodation: Children of all ages are welcome, but we request parents bring their own baby equipment. Well-mannered dogs by arrangement (no extra charge), but please bring bedding and don't let them on the furniture or in the bedrooms - dog towels & dog treats provided. We request no smoking please. Outside: South facing garden accessed through garden corridor or French windows from living room. Fully enclosed with cottage fronting, fencing to two sides and wall to 4th side. Garden table and benches for al fresco breakfasts and dining. Lawn, monkey puzzle and willow trees, herbaceous planting, espalier apple trees, climbing roses, herbs, rhubarb, small strawberry bed. Spectacular views - should see the sun come up behind the castle! Parking shared with the owners on private drive behind the owners' house and Garden Cottage. Utility Room: Washing-machine room under the stairs, accesses from door next to front door. Washing machine. Washing-line for use in garden. Clothes horse for drying in passage or kitchen. Iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Crisp, white bedlinen, fluffy white towels and t-towels included in the price. The cottage is cleaned every week and bedlinen changed. Clean towels are available on request. Other: Stone flagged passage leads from front door to south-facing garden. Door from passage to kitchen. Plenty of room for bikes, pushchairs, coats, boots etc

The Garden Cottage in Richmond is a gem, it is in an ideal location for exploring Richmond and beyond. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated, clean and well equipped with a lovely enclosed garden with the bonus of being dog friendly. The owners are very friendly and helpful and lots of information is provided in their information pack to ensure you get the most from your stay. Overall we would safely say it is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed at

Booking Notes: Garden Cottage changeover day is usually Friday. During the school holidays bookings are available in 7 day blocks commencing on a Friday. Please call to discuss if you would like to arrive on a different day of the week.
Short breaks are available at certain times. Please email or telephone to discuss. A non-refundable deposit of £100 per week is required on booking, and the balance is payable 8 weeks in advance of your stay. This may be paid by cheque or into our bank account.

Changeover Day:
Friday is usual changeover day, but out of season this is flexible. Short breaks of 3 or more days out of peak season are also possible. Check-in is from 2pm on the day of arrival & we aim to be at the cottage to greet our guests. Check-out is by 10am.

Notes on prices:
Our prices are for a 7 day period, but we also offer short breaks at certain times of the year. Please telephone or email to discuss your requirements.
Prices are inclusive of bedlinen, towels, t-towels, washing-up equipment and fuel. We do not charge extra for dogs, booking or in fact, anything, except perhaps breakages.
