Cottage was very small, upstairs was furnished beautifully, downstairs was like a charity shop, looking much unloved, upon arrival fridge had half a carton or orange juice in it and an almost empty box of wine (making me think not been cleaned) so I had to clean before we could put our items in fridge, view out of back window was a rubbish tip from behind the closed down village store, creating a fun ground for wasps and other bugs meaning windows were left closed, top of wardrobe in double room is full of remnants from when they have refurbed the bathroom, went to light bbq on first night to find it full of spiders and thick cobwebs, again not cleaned (for months by the look) only one key which created a problem for us as three people not wanting to spend every day together, the info point had brochures with info from 2014... All in all a disappointment, does not live up to the many other properties I have stayed at via this site, would not book again....

Swainby itself has two pubs, the black horse being the best food and most welcoming, the shop has closed down so be prepared for a decent drive to stokesley for your essentials.

Owner's Response: I read this review with utter bemusement. Cosy Cottage is just as shown in the photographs, downstairs there is a Fired Earth slate floor, there is a comfortable settee that was bought from Next, the curtains are hand-made and interlined and the whole cottage was professionally re-decorated inside and out recently. I accept the comment about the fridge as I cleaned it out and intended to remove the two boxes before leaving, this was totally my fault. The village shop has recently closed and the owner has put items from the shop into his yard, I have asked him to tidy this up. The wardrobe top that is about 7 feet high is where I store items for maintenance of the cottage, these are not remnants and just why a guest goes looking on top of a wardrobe is questionable, in the six years that I have had Cosy Cottage no other guest has made a similar comment. The cottage Guestbook shows nothing but praise and the fact that I have so much regular repeat business bears testament to how nice the cottage is and that it lives up to its name. Info Point brochures from 2014, many of these are from small businesses who possibly don’t need to or cannot afford to re-print brochures year on year if the details are correct. One key, there is a key box at the front door that allows guests to securely store the key to the cottage, again, nobody has ever previously complained – nor about the poor spiders in the outside shed where the BBQ is stored, this is the countryside!

We had the pleasure of staying in Cosy Cottage for 7 weeks.

Travelling from Australia, we were looking for a characterful cottage and the area was of importance as well.

Swainby is a lovely village, complete with 2 pubs and a local store, surrounded by the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside with lots of walking tracks to enjoy.

Cosy Cottage offered everything we needed for our long stay, including the charm we hoped for.

We could not fault the cottage or the area. Having family spread all over the UK, we had family members come up to Yorkshire to visit us. They booked their own accommodation around the area and I can say 100% that Cosy Cottage was the best accommodation by far. I will not need to try anywhere else on our next trip.

We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Amanda & John, who were very welcoming and helpful and will have a place in our hearts forever.

What a lovely cottage. Well equipped cottage, warm and very cosy and quiet. Swainby is a delightful place has a stream running through the centre of the village with lots of walks close by. An ideal location for touring the Yorkshire area. Will return again, soon.
