The cottage has a double and a single bedroom (with pull out bed) and a first floor shower room. There is a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with log burning stove. There is a patio garden, bike store and terraced gardens around the house with hill views. The cottage is a few minutes walk from Wirksworth town centre up a street called The Dale. It sits just off the road down a short footpath. Free roadside parking is available nearby on The Dale.
Sorry, no pets and the steep steps and terraced gardens will present accessibility issues for infirm guests and young children must be closely supervised. We can take no responsibility for any falls or accidents.
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is.
The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks.
Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues.
Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea.
So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!

About Karen Hodgson
We love the countryside, the weather, the wild places, Just have the right clothes and who needs scorching Mediterranean sun that just drains your energy. (Ok, yes, it is also good to feel the warmth on your skin). But we feel that Great Britain has so much to offer the holiday maker and explorer and despite living here in Derbyshire for many years we are still excited by the new places and amazing landscapes that we discover. We love history and the quirky and the people that make up this world and nature too and we feel passionate about the land and nature and people living in harmony and living well and caring. I've not thought too much about how to word this - just let it flow. I like to feel alive and so I run the fells and Richard runs the fells fast! I like to feel alive because in 2006 I was so lucky to have a heart transplant after many years of living with a degenerating heart condition that was about to see me off! I want people to learn to live for and value this life and their loved ones and make the most of every second.

Why Karen Hodgson chose Wirksworth
We though very hard about having a holiday cottage and decided that if it gives those not living in the countryside the chance to have an affordable holiday in a beautiful place and connect with the countryside then it has many benefits. We use our cottage often as well, whenever it is free and we do everything we can to contribute to the local community and the local economy.
What makes this Cottage unique
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in area. There are fabulous walks from the door, a leisure centre, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre.

Quirky charming cottage in lovely location
We loved our stay at this quirky and charming cottage just off the market place in the small market town of Wirksworth. Tower cottage is on three floors and has a courtyard with seating area on a level area and then a lovely garden with steps up to different levels with further seating areas and fabulous views over roof tops and the surrounding countryside. Very well equipped, comfy sitting room with woodburner, the top floor bedroom is very attractive but note the stairs are quite steep. No trouble parking on road nearby with some spaces off road. Various eating places in easy walking distance of the cottage. A great place to stay in the lower part of the Peak District.
