Bidart is a French commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in Aquitaine region Nova. It developed on nearly five kilometers from the Atlantic coast and its coastline is characterized by long cliffs overlooking strongly folded some beaches. Bordering Biarritz, it is twenty-five kilometers north of the Spanish border.
Located in an area known to man since the Upper Paleolithic, the village became urbanized until the twelfth century, when the Bishop of Bayonne and Labourd Viscount allow colonization of undeveloped coastal heathlands of this part the Basque Country. With an important maritime exhibition, the village develops to the ocean tour activity, distinguishing itself from the sixteenth century in the whaling, the operation of a fishing harbor (now defunct), and activities related to it, such as shipbuilding. Deprivation of this port and famine resulting from the eighteenth century wars while pushing Bidartars to more distant fishing and emigration.
