Overview

About the property

House in Chalmington, Nr. Dorchester, Dorset, England - Idyllic Rural Setting, Near Jurassic Coast And Historic Towns Of Dorchester And Sherborne

The Granary was rebuilt 8 years ago and affords spacious family accommodation. It has been designed with wheelchair users very much in mind, with level floor surfaces on the ground floor and a downstairs bedroom with en-suite wheelchair-friendly bathroom with shower. We are M2 accessible level accredited by Quality in Tourism. Parking for 4 cars is next to the Granary on smooth stone surfaces allowing easy access. It benefits from all modern features without losing its farm house charm. In June 2013 we installed a biomass boiler. There is a large sitting room with far reaching views of the Dorset landscape. The separate large kitchen is ideal for celebrating special occasions with family and friends. There are four en suite bedrooms. There are two patios for outdoor eating and far reaching views of the countryside. There are plenty of lovely walks from the property. There are great pubs and restaurants nearby, plenty of places to visit and lovely beaches to enjoy.

Tranquil house in beautiful surroundings. So much room and very well equipped.

We loved our stay at the Granary. The en suite bedrooms were ideal for our extended family and the large kitchen and living room great for getting together. The weather was kind most of the time and we were able to sit on the lovely terrace. Our 2 year old grandson was so happy there and has wonderful memories of helping Jason feed the lambs. We had two 'beach days' at Weymouth- crowded but wonderful sand for digging and donkeys too! On our last day Col and I escaped to the peaceful cliff path near Burton Bradstock and sat for a blissful two hours on a deserted Chesil Beach.

Lovely property for a family or group of friends

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property for a week in early June with a group of friends. We chose the property for its location, the ground floor bedroom with completely accessible en-suite, large kitchen and outdoor areas and we were not disappointed. The location is stunning and the accommodation ideal for a group. We love to cook and the kitchen was ideal for this and the tasty meals that we went on to enjoy at the large farmhouse-style table. The owners are nearby and were happy to help when needed but otherwise kept a low profile. Their lamb was absolutely delicious. Our only disappointment was that the poor weather (rain and high winds most of the week) stopped us using the lovely outdoor area in the photo, the view from which is even more beautiful than the photo is able to capture. Highly recommended.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Our third visit to The Granary and our best holiday yet. It has everything you could wish for to have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. The Granary is very comfortable, well equipped, very easy for our disabled elderly mother. She really enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings looking at the amazing views. Our two Miniature Schnauzers, Megan and Lottie, had a brilliant time and it was lovely to let them in the garden knowing they were safe. We had a lovely welcome from Jason, which was greatly appreciated. We are already planning our 2018 holiday at The Granary!!

Lovely setting, well equipped and high specification rental.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weeks stay here for Easter. Set in a very quiet location surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. Friendly owner was on hand for general help and advice when asked but otherwise left us alone to enjoy our stay.

Our stay centred around the impressive farmhouse kitchen with a wonderfully large central table - if you are a large party you'll love this. Kitchen is very well equipped and has a very useful larder.

Only small issue we had was the broadband router seemed to need resetting every half hour - time for an upgrade Jason! Otherwise the broadband kept two teenagers (and 2 grannies) fully entertained.

In all, a great time had and it's on our 'to return' list.

Warm and Welcoming

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay in the farmhouse. It was a family get together for a 90th birthday and we were all a bit concerned as to how things would turn out- often disabled access properties may be functional but not so homely. This one, however, was both! The house was perfect in all respects particularly for my 90 year old Dad who has Parkinsons, is confined to a wheelchair and is generally very frail. He loved every minute of our stay! Aside from the practical aspects of the house, it was a great location with lovely views and a sunny terrace (which we were able to use even in Feb!). The log burner at night made it very cosy and warm and the huge eat in kitchen provided the perfect room for all our feasting. We also really enjoyed exploring the farm estate and walking along the river which borders the property. Lots of things to do nearby too - we explored Bridport (a nearby market town), the coast and found some cosy country pubs (with disabled access). Jason was a fantastic ' host' who was very responsive and kind in meeting our various requests. I would very much recommend this property to anyone wanting a tranquil and peaceful holiday in Dorset. Moreover it is a particular treasure for any wheelchair users. Thank you so much for a wonderful stayJason!

Our third visit to this delightful property

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed returning again to this well equipped cottage with all bedrooms en-suite. A ground floor bedroom with a wet room was great for me as I have MS.

It is lovely to escape to rural Dorset yet be only 20 minutes by car from Yeovil and Dorchester. We loved the therapeutic log fire (with a wee dram!) each evening.

Cosy, comfortable and ideal for our family of five.
