Overview

About the property

Villa in Chianni, Pisa, Tuscany and Florence, Italy - In An Unspoilt Part Of Tuscany Affording Magnificent Views Of The Pisan Hills

In a panoramic position on a hillside affording breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside, Villa Adelina provides an idyllic place for a holiday or to celebrate a special occasion. Set in the Pisan hills in picturesque Chianni, this is a truly unspoilt part of Tuscany where serious tourism has not reached. Yet Chianni is just 40 minutes drive from Pisa airport and boasts three good restaurants, some interesting shops and a couple of bars (with free wifi) where you can have a drink and engage with the locals.

There is a large swimming pool (12m x 6m) where you can keep cool in the long hot summers. It is surrounded by fruit and olive trees which provide some shade and you are welcome to help yourself to figs during the season. You can use the pool at night thanks to lighting both around the pool and underwater.

The spa of Casciana Terme with its hot springs is just 7 km away. You could enjoy a hot swim or various body massages then enjoy some of the best ice cream in Italy in the local gelateria.

Built in the Liberty style the villa was restored in 2005 and all the facilities were modernised. However, it retains its original elegance and splendour as well as original Tuscan furniture.

The Tuscan style dining room has a large table which will accommodate 12 people and the adjacent terrace provides further tables and chairs for al fresco dining. The large sitting room has comfortable sofas as well as large digital tv with satellite access and a dvd player with library of dvds.

The villa is set in olive groves and there is a beautiful garden with tall trees which provide welcome shade during the summer. There is a large raised terrace and a smaller patio both provided with tables and chairs for outdoor dining. The entire area is completely private.

Recently a small house (the casetta) in the grounds of the Villa has been restored and will accommodate a further six people in two double and one twin bedroom, if the extra space isneeded for larger groups. The price for this additional accommodation is 50% of the rate for the Villa.

We have recently installed WiFi in the villa, so you no longer have to go to the bar to check emails.

About Peter Stefanini

I am British living in Yorkshire, but my father was Italian and I have many relations in Italy.

I am a graduate of Cambridge University and have worked most of my life in manufacturing industry in particular chemicals and scientific instruments. I am now retired but still do consultancy and some non-executive work. My wife, Mary, was the Marketing Manager of a private school but is now also retired.

Mary, and I spend a number of weeks a year in the villa. Our children also bring friends and family for holidays.

Peter Stefanini purchased this villa in 2004

Why Peter Stefanini chose Valdera e Colline Pisane

Villa Adelina was built for my Italian grandfather in the 1920's in the Liberty style. He worked in Livorno but wanted a house in the countryside for holidays and relaxation. After his death the house was used by a maiden aunt. After she died I bought the property and completely restored it to a high standard in 2005.

We have rented it out for 11 years and have had several parties returning for a second and third time. They and we like the privacy that the villa and pool provide, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Chianni and the friendliness of the local people. The landscapes are spectacular and one is also close to centres of art like Florence.

Yet in spite of its tranquility, Chianni is only 40 minutes drive from Pisa Airport

What makes this villa unique

Even though Villa Adelina is a large property we find it remarkably cosy when we are there on our own. In the winter there is very good central heating and in the summer it stays cool inside when it's hot outside. Yet we have also found it ideal for entertaining because it is so spacious.

There is a lovely garden which is a particular pleasure for my wife who enjoys gardening. The pool which is a sun trap for most of the day provides an area for relaxation with some shade provided by trees.

It only takes five minutes to walk into Chianni. There are two bars where you can meet the locals and all the shops you would need. There are also two fine restaurants and a pizzeria.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To be added when the Visitor Book can be consulted (currently at the villa.) The feedback has been very positive and in seven years we have had five parties come for a second time and two parties come for a third time. One of the latter parties has spent nine weeks in total holidaying at the property. One Canadian couple spent three months in the autumn and winter at the villa.

Elegant Living in the heart of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

12 of us were booked in for a week's stay. Welcomed by a friendly English speaking Italian lady, we were blown away by the wonderful size and layout of the property and grounds. Morning breakfasts on the patio - lazy afternoons by the pool, and in between the sights of Lucca, Volterra Sienna and Pisa all within an easy drive. The small village provides all the basics needed, plus an excellent butchers and two or three good restaurants. cars obviously essential, and just a 45 minute drive from Pisa. We're already looking forward to to another stay. if you like Italy you will love Villa Adelina
