4 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage set in an ancient apple orchard in rural Normandy

It is tastefully decorated and furnished and is well equipped with everything you will need in a holiday home, kitchen items, sheets and towels, books and games, UK tvs and dvd, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and 2 wood burning stoves.
Set in an ancient apple orchard, there is lots of space for children and adults to play, relax and enjoy. There is a well fitted kitchen with a large kitchen table for all the family and friends, large salon/dining room, 4 bedrooms (1 on mezzanine with en-suite shower room) plus a large wet room and additional wc on the first floor which is a "Jack & Jill".
Accommodation is on 2 floors, the cottage is attractively decorated, well equipped and prettily furnished with some vintage and antique items.
Kitchen and dining
The kitchen comprises fitted units, kitchen table and chairs, a pine dresser, large pine shelving unit, gas cooker (bottled gas), dishwasher, tumbledryer, microwave and Tassimo coffee-machine plus all the usual small appliances. It has plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils and gadgets plus a selection of cookery books - perfect for any keen cooks! There is UK tv provided.
There is a further dining table and chairs in the salon area, under the mezzanine floor.
A corridor from the kitchen leads through to a delightful salon/dining/gamesroom with wood burning stove, comfortable seating, a small library area and frenchdoors leading to the front of the cottage. There are plenty of books, games and dvds to keep everyone occupied. There is a tv which plays dvds. We also have a video player and a large library of vintage videos, plenty of childrens films including lots of Disney.
Above the salon is a mezzanine (4th bedroom), with double bed and en suite shower room - this room is not suitable for children due to the steep staircase and open plan nature of the space.
There are 3 bedrooms on the second floor accessed by a staircase from the kitchen, a double (king size antique bed) with UK tv, a large twin room and another pretty bedroom with a single and a fold up single bed - there is a "Jack & Jill" wc accessible as an en suite from the double room and by the other rooms via a second door, this is very handy indeed at night!
On the ground floor off the corridor is a family wet room with two sinks and a large custom built mosaic bath, ideal for young children.
On the mezzanine floor there is a shower room and wc.
There is a "Jack & Jill" wc on the first floor
There are 2 wood burning stoves, only needed between October and March, one in the kitchen and one in the salon.
There is oil fired central heating which also heats the hot water.
Large library of books.
Films and dvds.
Games and puzzles.
Garden and outside
Outside, there is a small piece of land at the rear of the cottage which backs on to fields but the main area is the large orchard at the front of the cottage. There is a patio area with outdoor seating and barbecue, this is a secluded spot, very private and not overlooked - pyjamas all day if you wish....
There is plenty of space for outdoor games and running about.
Ample parking in front of the cottage.
There is no disabled access. Very young children should be supervised at all times.
There is an abundance of apples and blackberries in season - please feel free to eat and enjoy!

About Belinda Prince
Lee and I have owned the cottage at La Mare for almost 10 years now. We are totally in love with France and all things French! We bought another property, a small Medieval Chateau in the Hautes Vienne region 2 years ago and we are currently in the process of turning this into another delightful holiday destination. Please look at our other ad for further details. We now spend more than half of our time in France and can certainly recommend it - come and see for yourself!
Belinda Prince purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Belinda Prince chose Lonlay-l'Abbaye
La Mare is a small hamlet in the Orne region of Lower Normandy, located between the towns of Flers and Domfront, the nearest small town is Lonlay L’Abbaye, famous for it’s Abbey and Biscuit Factory! Nestling amongst the verdant pastures, hills and orchards of this beautiful part of France, it is a place for perfect peace and relaxation. The gentle moo of lovely Normandy cows and birdsong are almost the only sounds you hear and yet Lonlay L'Abbaye with shops, bars and restaurant are only 10 minutes away by car, the beautiful medieval town of Domfront is 20 mins to the South, whilst Flers with an abundance of shops etc lies 20 mins to the North. La Mare is perfectly located for trips to the Normandy Beaches and a day trip to Paris is possible by fast train from Flers.
