The Retreat is a light and airy fully refurbished luxurious 3 bedroom holiday home sleeping up to 8 persons. It has sea views from the house and the garden and is located in a quiet cul-de-sac. A private lane leads to Polzeath beach, local shops and faciliites as well as to the Southwest coast path. The Retreat has an enclosed rear private garden with a barbecue and patio furniture. There is a brand new hot tub in the garden for the 2015 season.

We are a family with 2 sons aged 12 and 11. We love all sorts of outdoor activities and love being able to spend quality time together as a family. We have lived in the South West for years and feel we know the area well.

Why Elizabeth Michaelson chose North Cornwall

We have always loved Polzeath and last year we were lucky enough to be able to buy The Retreat.

Polzeath is the perfect holiday getaway as it has everything. The beach is fantastic for all and many types of water sports and outdoor activities can easily be enjoyed.

What I particularly love is that once we have arrived and parked on our driveway we do not need to use the car at all. Everything can be accessed on foot and shopping can be done locally in Polzeath unless you crave a large supermarket. Padstow can be reached by walking to the ferry and Polzeath is on the South west coast path.

We live near Exeter in Devon and it takes us just under 1.5 hours to get to the house.

What makes this bungalow unique

We stay in The Retreat ourselves as well as renting it out to guests so have made it a home from home where guests can fully relax. It has been beautifully modernised and everything is new.

Our back garden has fields behind so is a peaceful relaxing sheltered suntrap. There is a path opposite our house that cuts down to the beach and shops which means that no roads need to be crossed and it is very quick and easy to walk to and from the beach. Our children can make their own way as it is perfectly safe.

We are only a few minutes walk away from all the amenities of Polzeath but benefit from a very quiet peaceful location as the house is in a cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the village.

Perfect for a family beach holiday

Really comfortable well-kitted out house for beach holiday. Back garden gets the sun in the morning and evening for breakfast and bbq. We loved the hot tub and outdoor hot shower for getting sand off. Comfortable beds and lots of places to laze with a book. We even had perfect sunshine! Liz was very helpful - thank you!

Lovely property, great location

Lovely property, and a definite plus having the Hot tub & BBQ, and hot outdoor shower for cleaning the wesuits. Neutral decor, spacious and perfect for our weekend. Lots of room for boards, drying wetsuits, and relaxing. Very comfortable beds and sofas, and even the radiators were nice (commented one of our group). Clean, well maintained, short 5 minute walk down to the beach and lovely views. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again! Thanks Liz

Fantastic stay

Liz was very friendly to deal with. No hassle set up. Lovely property, comfortable, perfectly kept, great neutral decor with excellent facilities, hot outdoor shower, hot tub, BBQ and lots of outdoor space for surfboards etc. Would definitely recommend and will use again.

5 minutes walk to Polzeath beach, a fantastic surf beach which is manned by lifeguards in the summer. It has a large expanse of flat sand and many rockpools making it suitable for children of all ages. There is parking at the beach.

Daymar Bay is approximately 2 miles away. It is great for bathing and windsurfing.


Use of car recommended.

Bodmin Parkway station is approximately 15 miles away. It is on the main Paddington to Penzance line.


6 miles to Wadebridge

15 miles to Padstow by car. Approximately 3 miles on foot via ferry from Rock.

In Polzeath there is an excellent sizeable Spar shop which stocks all the essentials. Bigger supermarkets can be found at Wadebridge and Padstow.

Polzeath has several cafes, pubs and restaurants. It has good clothing and surf shops and a lovely new gallery. It has a cashpoint machine.

Nearby Rock and Padstow are good for shopping. Padstow has many great places to eat being the home of Rick Stein. His famous cookery school is located here.

The nearby St. Moritz hotel has a Cowshed spa.

The Camel Trail runs between Padstow and Bodmin and cycles can be hired at Padstow and Wadebridge.

Polzeath is famed for its surfing and bodyboarding as well as its lovely safe beach. All equipment can be hired at the beach and surf lessons are available.

Rock is fantastic for sailing and waterskiing. Daymar Bay is great for windsurfing.

Coasteering and sea kayaking take place from varoius locations including Port Quinn.

Nearby St Enodoc has a stunning golf course overlooking the estuary and the sea.

Notes on accommodation: The property has gas central heating throughout. It is suitable for children although has some steps in the garden that would require supervision. The patio areas are gravelled. No pets allowed. Outside: The rear garden is on three levels. The first level has extensive wooden bench seating around a chiminea. There is an outdoor dining table and chairs and a gas barbecue. The second level has a decked area for sitting and sunbathing. The hot tub is located here. The third level is lawn with a patio area. Utility Room: Waher/dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels included (not beach towels).
