Kingsbridge Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful cottage with Estaury views sleeps 8

Blakes is a beautiful cosy cottage affording flexible accomodation and is a fantastic base for a holiday whatever the season. In 2016 this cottage has been redecorated and BT infinity installed, giving excellent connectivity.

Blakes is furnished with quality fixtures and fittings, bought specifically to suit the property. There are three areas in which to relax, a conservatory( just off the farmhouse kitchen) and two sitting rooms. One has an open fire and is what we refer to as the snug, as the TV lives here and it is where the children like to be. The second sitting room has a log- burner and it seems to be the area that guests refer to as the "adult space" where they can relax and take wine! The oil fired heating system is very efficient at Blakes which is why this is such a cosy cottage!

Conveniently situated on the coastal road from Kingsbridge towards Dartmouth, the property is close to the beautiful sandy coves that surround Start Point and provides miles of stunning cliff top walks. Slapton Ley Nature Reserve is also nearby which is well loved by all bird watching enthusiasts. In the other direction (2 miles) is the wonderful market town of Kingsbridge, with a rich variety of shops and restaurants and a small market twice a week. Just 7.5 miles from the house is the sailing mecca of Salcombe as well as the sandy stretches at Thurlestone and Bantham. For sailors, boat hire is possible in Salcombe and there is a sailing school where weekly courses can be booked for children.

Blakes has a pretty enclosed garden, with two patio areas, to allow guests to catch both the morning and evening sun. There is parking to the side of the house for up to three cars.

About Karen Cresswell

I live in London and work in the recruitment industry in the city. I have two teenage daughters who keep me very busy and poor!

Life is hectic and having the chance to relax is rare; this is what has made having the cottage such a joy!

We are an active family and the girls love all the activities that the area has to offer(surfing riding etc) but also the opportunity to relax in front of a log fire as we have done this Christmas.

Comfort is important to me, and the cottage is a true home from home. It is furnished to a high standard, and as good sleep is also very important to me all the beds are super comfortable and I only use quality bedlinen!

Karen Cresswell purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Karen Cresswell chose South Hams

We fell in love with this property on first viewing and made an offer the same day! Whilst the house required quite a lot of updating, it always had a wonderful welcoming vibe. Summer or winter this house is an absolute haven.

The layout of the house is perfect for catering for the needs of families. The farmhouse kitchen is at the heart of the house and is well equipped for those who like to cook for relaxation. I have taken care to provide everything I think a cook may need. There are three separate seating areas, the conservatory, the snug and what we call the slate room- as it has an original slate floor and a lovely wood burner. The snug has an open fire.

What makes this cottage unique

The benefit of Blakes is its proximity to Kingsbridge which is a thriving market town which " lives" all year round. It has a cinema, numerous independant grocers and butchers but also a Tesco and Morrisons. It also sits between two distinct beach areas those in and around Salcombe and in the opposite direction the beaches of route to Dartmouth. Blackpool sands is a very popular beach for families, because there is amble parking and a very good on site organic cafe- Venus Cafe.

Crabbing is something that all young children enjoy and on a summer evening Bocombe bridge ( 0.5 miles from the house) is a buzz of activity.

Aside from beaches there are wonderful walks to be had. Cliff walks are dramatic and can be designed to take in a pub lunch.( start point to Beesands)

Behind the house is a meadow which leads on to marsh land. This is a great spot for all those that love bird- watching. .

Beautiful Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting family in the Kingsbridge area for the past 24 years and Blakes Cottage is by far the best property we have stayed in.

A lovely, spacious, well equipped cottage. - everything we needed was there. There was plenty of room to spread out and accommodate the different member of our large family. Particularly liked the large family kitchen.

The location is an excellent base to explore the beautiful South Hams area.

We will definitely be back, thank you Karen for a wonderful holiday.

Our week in South Devon

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in numerous self-catering properties and this rates as probably the best. The cottage is spacious, well situated for South Devon resorts, and is very well equipped. In fact, it was difficult to imagine what else the owners could have provided, the attention to detail was excellent. A very happy stay.

Perfect summer holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous holiday in Blakes cottage. It is a great base and central for so many beautiful, picture perfect villages and beaches and breath taking walks, there was something for everyone. On the sunny days we spent long days on great beaches- a day across the estuary in Salcombe at Mill Bay and a wonderful day at Blackpool Sands were favourites. We kayaked, swam across to a diving board (at Blackpool Sands) and often cooked the fish we caught on the beach. On the one drizzly day we walked from the back door to the estuary and round to Frogmore and had to stop in the Globe Inn for a pint and a plate of chips.

In the evenings there were too many choices so we choose the Winking Prawn, a shack on South sands beach just around the corner from Salcombe for a barbecue and dressed up, to much laughter and when it got too cold to be outside blankets were provided . Sometimes we just took a picnic to a tiny beach called Lannacombe beach (only 15 car park spaces and five miles from the cottage) one evening and went crabbing.

The house was a lovely home, with a great size kitchen with everything we needed, a conservatory overlooking the garden and we particularly liked the fact there were 2 sitting rooms. The garden overlooked the estuary and Salcombe . On 2 nights we barbecued and sat outside on a lovely patio.

Our 17 year old son wasn't sure about going on holiday to a cottage with his younger brother and sister and cousins but summed up the week by saying "I am really enjoying myself here"!!!! We would most definitely go back. Thank you Karen for making our holiday a really good one.

Wonderful stay at blakes cottage ! We were lucky with the weather too . A beautiful homely cosy cottage , very spacious with two lovely reception rooms an a lovely wood burner , the bedrooms were very comfortable , the bed was the most comfortable I'd slept in . We BBQ ' d few times in the lovely mature garden , which isn't overlooked . The cottage is in a great location for all amenities and there are a great selection of good pubs in the area . The pizza ' s at the Crabshell inn are superb ! All in all we had a brilliant time , we live in a cottage in Lancashire and it was definitely a home from home . We would love to return ! Thanks .
