About Barbara Arthur

Porthcressa is a much loved family run holiday cottage, owned by twin sisters Claire and Sarah. It is lovingly looked after by our mother Barbara. It is full of family memories as this is where our father was born and where our great grandparents lived. It is now a place where we bring our own families to holiday and we take every chance to return to the beautiful village of Porthleven.

Why Barbara Arthur chose Lizard Peninsula

Porthcressa is situated in a quiet part of Porthleven and is just a few minutes from the harbour and the beach. We have made many friends through letting the cottage, as people who book it love it so much they return many times.

What makes this cottage unique

Porthcressa has such a lovely, peaceful atmosphere. It is within a very short distance of the harbour and beach, which gives you the feeling of being in the heart of the village. Once you discover Porthleven, you will want to return time and time again. The well kept and colourful garden of the cottage also contributes to a great holiday. There is now fibre broadband installed in the cottage.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have loved our week in Porthcressa; cosy, clean and very well equipped. Porthleven is a wonderful place in which to stay and we have used the cottage as a base for walking the S.W. Coastal paths. Excellent food and beer at the Atlantic Inn and the Ship! We will recommend Porthcressa as a superb holiday base.

What a delight!

  • 5 of 5

Porthcressa is a delightful property: deceptively spacious, fully equipped, immaculately maintained and in a very convenient residential location at the heart of beautiful Porthleven. The cottage has an attractive small garden with a lawn that is perfect for outdoor eating, off-street parking and extremely comfortable beds. It is evidently maintained to the highest standards and guests are welcomed on arrival by a very generous 'Cornish cream tea' and bouquet of flowers. It is, without doubt, one of the best Owners Direct properties that we have stayed in.

Porthleven itself is a charming little fishing village that manages to retain a real friendly 'community feel' while offering visitors a wonderfully situated holiday location with excellent amenities in the form of local shops, thriving pubs and a range of eateries without being over-commercialised or exploited. Long may it remain so!

Although at the heart of the village there are numerous walks available from the doorstep of the cottage, including the wonderful coast path and nearby Penrose estate. Other attractive locations - St Michael’s Mount, Mousehole, Kynance Cove and the Lizard peninsula, Helford estuary and a variety of attractive gardens - are just a short drive away.

Home from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely holiday in Cornwall and staying at Porthcressa played a big part. The property was spotlessly clean, well maintained and blended modern comfort with traditional features very tastefully. It fitted the listing description accurately.

Most importantly I found the personal service provided by Barbara greatly enhanced the whole experience. Her friendly manner on the phone and handwritten letters to confirm the booking made the practicalities very pleasant.

The cream tea on arrival plus flowers and a welcoming card were much appreciated!

I hope we can visit again.
