This charming two bedroom holiday cottage is located in peaceful countryside on the outskirts of Sainte Mere Eglise in normandy. Sainte Mere Eglise is famous for being the first town to be liberated by the forces during the second world war. Our gite is just 10 kms from the D day landing beaches. The gite has it's own entrance and parking area as well as a large, private, south facing garden with plenty of space for children to run around and play, you can even play badminton if you feel up to it. Alternatively you could sit and relax on the wooden decking patio, soothed by the gentle stream which runs underneath and watch the ducks go by. The gite has its own garden table and chairs and on sunny evenings a barbeque is a must!

About Elizabeth Palfreyman
Our love of all things French originally brought us to France in 1983 and we have lived and worked in the Normandy region of France ever since where we run our own smoked salmon company.
Why Elizabeth Palfreyman chose Sainte-Mère-Église
We bought our present property in 2002. The gite was converted from a stables building in 2005 and we have been letting it ever since. The Gite is part of our property and we are always available to assist our guests in anyway we can. We love this part of France because of the relaxed way of life and the space all around us, as well as the proximity of beautiful, sandy beaches.

Cozy and comfortable with friendly hosts!
We had a lovely 6 days in Sainte-Mere-Eglise. The gite was a cozy retreat at the end of busy days visiting Utah beach for shell, mussel, oyster and cockle hunting. We would also highly recommend the zoo at Champrepus for those with kids and the airborne museum in town was very interesting ...their Histopads kept our 5 and 8 year olds very happy! Liz and Bill were very welcoming, helpful and good company!
We had a lovely stay in Saint Mere Eglise. The property is in a quiet location but close enough to walk into Saint Mere Eglise. The garden is really spacious and great to sit and relax in. Elizabeth was really friendly and provided useful tips of places to visit. The cottage is in a great location close to lots of beaches and interesting places to visit. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit this part of France.
Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings
We enjoyed a wonderful week in this delightful cottage set in large gardens beside a small stream. The cottage was immaculately clean and had every amenity you could possibly want. We enjoyed several leisurely cycles into the close by Saint Mere Eglise with restaurants, cafes, bakers and a wonderful church and museum.
Thank you to Elizabeth and Bill for helping us have a truly memorable holiday.
Lovely cottage,friendly owners
We spent a week in this lovely little cottage surrounded by plenty of open space and the sounds of nature. Although it is very near the town of Sainte-Mere -Eglise there is very little traffic noise, apart from the occasional car or tractor passing along the lane. The town itself is a few minutes drive away ( or 25 minute walk if you are fit enough ) and there is a huge supermarket within a couple of minutes too.
Saint-Mere-Eglise is a lovely little town with a fascinating story to tell of it's involvement in the D Day landings. It has plenty of bars and restaurants as well as souvenir shops, boulangerie etc.
There are numerous other D Day sites to visit around the Cotentin Peninsula, all within 30 -45 minutes drive. Bayeaux is also about 40 minutes away as well as lots of sea-side towns and beaches.
The owners of the cottage, Liz and Bill, could not have been more friendly and helpful. They popped over for a chat several times ( but were in no way intrusive) and gave us some smoked salmon from their own factory, which was delicious. They treat their guests as old friends and made us feel very much at home.
I would thoroughly recommend this pretty little cottage to anyone wanting to visit this part of Normandy.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing report of cottage and the surrounding area. We’re very happy when our guests have a great time and like to help any way we can to ensure this.
We had a wonderful stay and Elizabeth was very helpful. We would happily stay here again.
Comfortable and attractive house, excellent for 2 people
A lovely light, clean property with a huge garden. We didn't take much advantage of that as it was autumn, but it would be great in the summer. The house is quite small, so a family might find it a squeeze, but there's a good-sized table and big sofa in the living room. The main bedroom is under the eaves - plenty of room, but it got quite hot even with the heating off. The house is very quiet: although it's quite near a main road you can't hear traffic at all inside. The village is about 1 and a bit miles away, and the quickest way is crossing busy carriageways. There's a prettier and much quieter route through the woods, only a little a bit longer. The village is lovely - with lots of places to eat and a museum. Overall, this is a very good place to stay and explore the fascinating history and countryside/beaches nearby.
Being situated on the Cherbourg peninsula there is a large choice of beaches within easy reach. The nearest, the D day landing beaches are long sandy beaches , 10 kms/6miles away.
The gite is easily accessible from the ports of Cherbourg and Caen and although Le Havre and Calais are further away, the journey is easy and mainly on the motorways, which in France are often fairly empty. Don't hesitate to ask us for directions.
The gite is 1.5kms from Sainte Mere Eglise with its famous church and war museum, 55kms from Bayeux and the tapestry and 35kms from the port of Cherbourg.
Whether you want to visit the many historical World War 2 sites in the area or have a relaxing family holiday, the gite is ideally located.
It is only a short distance from the watermeadows where you can take a boat ride along the waterways www.bateaudouve.com and there are many beautiful sandy beaches to choose from. you can go for long rambling walks or bike rides in the surrounding countryside and for nature lovers the local bird reserve is only 10 mins away. If you're feeling more energetic then sailing, sand-yachting, canoeing and horse-riding are all nearby. Golf courses and swimming pools (both inside and out) are also within easy reach.
And as for the D day celebrations in June..the gite is only 1.5kms from the town centre of Sainte mere Eglise which becomes a hive of activity during this time. The planes fly over the garden on their way to the parachute drop and you could sit and watch the soldiers drop from the plane and open their parachutes all from the comfort of the patio
