We first visited Italy with our 2 children in 2002 and fell in love. We discovered Puglia a few years later. We loved the fact that it was still relatively undiscovered by the rest of Europe, and decided to take the plunge and fulfil a long held ambition of owning a property abroad. We bought a 'shell' in 2008 and spent a year finishing the villa, the pool and the small cottage to provide a wonderful second home in a beautiful setting. We have ben renting out the villa since 2011. We have been encouraged by the fantastic comments from our guests and have been delighted that they have found as much pleasure as we have in the villa, its setting and Puglia itself.
Gillian Goodlad purchased this villa in 2008
Puglia is still relatively uncrowded, even during high season. Even then, the vast majority of visitors are italians. We found the local people friendly and welcoming. The pace of life is wonderfully slow, so it is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful local produce.
The villa truly has the best of both worlds, combining all the benefits of modern, high quality accommodation with a traditional Puglian setting. It is unusual in that the villa is in a slightly elevated position and so there are fabulous views from the roof terrace of the coast and surrounding countryside. It is ideally situated near the coast, accessible from Brindisi and Bari airports, but is still very rural and peaceful.
Here are some comments from our guests:
"Great location. Everything you need is in close proximity and beaches are stunning. The owners have gone all out to make the stay as effortless as possible with nice little touches everywhere. This is definitely one of the very few places we would come back to." Mr and Mrs Nash and family, Wiltshire.
"We have had a lovely holiday enjoying this beautiful villa and Puglia region. What a wonderful place to have a holiday." Mr and Mrs R and family, Norfolk
"Superb villa, everything was perfect. Loved Puglia...excellent towns and distinctive countryside." Mr & Mrs H and family, St Albans.
This was a lovely villa - clean and well-maintained - just right for our group of 7 friends with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. We took all our meals outside and made good use of the pool. We liked the quiet location and even though this meant that a car was essential, the local roads were quiet and we quickly found our way around the area. In fact it was well-placed to access major roads to explore this part of Italy which was a first for all of us.
The big plus for us was the excellent support and help provided by the local manager Amanda and her husband Renato on our first day when we had a car accident. They gave above and beyond what you might reasonably expect.
We certainly would recommend it to friends and family.
We had such a wonderful time in 2013 that we had to come back. Villa and Puglia once gain did not disappoint. The villa had been decorated and upgraded since our last stay and was spacious, comfortable and clean. Pool beautiful and peaceful. Surrounding area has so much to offer and even stumbled upon a music and food festival in the surrounding towns. Great Holiday.
A clean, spacious villa set in a rustic olive grove. The rooms were large, beds comfortable and the lounge cosy. The back garden has a wonderfully long swimming pool - perfect for our family of 5. There was also a shallow step area so that our 5 year old could hop about in the water without going out of her depth. The pool is also surrounded by olive trees and even has an organic vegetable patch full of tomatoes, chillies and courgettes growing nearby that you can pick from. You need a car to get around, and should try to explore Carovigno town for quaint places to eat, as well as the closer town of San Vito Dei Normani. Nearby beaches are plenty - ranging from free ones to exclusive, expensive ones with restaurants. To try something different we drove due south toward Gallipoli - only an hour away - where the beaches are more Carribean, white sands and shallow sea. All in all, a great stay in a lovely, peaceful villa in the heart of real Southern Italy.
What a wonderful holiday. Quiet, spacious, amazing pool and all perfectly located to see the area. Everything you could possible require for a relaxing holiday in a well equipped and comfortable Villa.
Our nearest beach is Torre Guaceto, which is approximately 10 mins drive (7km) - or an easy bike ride away. (It can be seen from the roof terrace). This is also a local nature reserve, so no development is allowed and the beaches are beautiful. There are many other beaches to explore up and down the coast, all within easy reach of the villa.
Nearest airports: Brindisi approx 22km (20mins), and Bari approx 120km (1hr 15mins). Easyjet and BA do direct flights from Gatwick to Bari. Ryan Air and Easyjet have direct flights from Stansted to both Brindisi and Bari. Alitalia and Lufthansa have indirect flights from London Heathrow to Brindisi and Bari with a change at Rome or Milan. Naples and Pescara airports are an easy 4hr drive. Given the villa's rural setting, we consider a car essential for reaching local amenities.
The nearest village is Serranova, 2km. San Vito Dei Normanni is 10 mins drive away. Other nearby towns include Carovigno, Ostuni, Mesagne and the city of Brindisi with its historic port, (approx 20 mins drive). Further afield, you will find a number of pretty towns inc Ceglie Messapica, Fasano, and the town of Lecce with its historic baroque centre. There are also a number of pretty coastal towns and ports including Otranto, Polignano, Monopli, San Cesareo etc.
The nearest shop is in Serranova, only 2km away. The small 'alimentari' sells fresh bread and cold meats, together with a basic range of groceries. In high season, you will also find a covered outdoor restaurant serving local specialities of roasted meats and oven baked pizza.
For more extensive amenities, San Vito Dei Normanni is only 10 mins drive away. San Vito is a bustling little town with a number of supermarkets, cafes, a few restaurants, banks, a post office and a wide range of other shops. There is also a go-karting track just outside San Vito. During the summer months, you will almost always find some kind of local concert, event or festival complete with parades and fireworks taking place in the main square in San Vito. This is also true of many of the other nearby towns. All the local towns have lovely central squares with gelaterias and restaurants. A wonderful way to spend the balmy summer evenings.
Further afield, (approx 20 mins drive), you will find 2 large shopping centres, on the Mesagne to Brindisi road, and also the city of Brindisi itself, with its lively port and marina. The surrounding countryside and small roads are ideal for bike rides and walks. There is an equestrian centre near Carovigno, and Zoolandia at Fasano is a theme park and zoo. Most of the surrounding towns also hold weekly markets.
To the south is Lecce which has a beautiful historic old town centre and is well worth a visit. The hill towns of Ostuni, (the white city), and Ceglie Messapicca are also nearby and have very pretty histic centres and a good range of restaurants and cafes etc.
