About Roger Meadows
I am now semi-retired after 40 years in business, 30 years managing international brand and retail operations. I still advise a number of companies but spend most of my time enjoying my friends and family and relaxing at home in West Sussex, France and New Zealand.
Roger Meadows purchased this Farmhouse in 1990
Why Roger Meadows chose Saint-Avit-Rivière
We travelled with our young family to the beautiful Dordogne for many years enjoying the gorgeous countryside, river valleys, pretty villages and delicious cuisine before finally deciding to buy somewhere away from the madding crowd where we could entertain ourselves, family and friends. After a 3 year search, Le Mas proved to be the perfect choice
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Le Mas is within a day's drive of the channel ports. We love the quiet and easy way of life here. We slip into instant relax mode the moment we set foot in this magical place. It's combination of comfortable but appropriately rustic accommodation; peaceful and bucolic setting yet close to stunning villages, the Dordogne river, great restaurants and Bergerac airport (45 minutes away); it's ability to house a large group whilst having so many areas where one can escape for moments alone (including 5 terraces ) and 5 hectares of meadow and copse... all make Le Mas an exceptional place to spend time with friends and family. Everyone who has been here over the years falls in love with this special home.

What's not to like
The biggest problem with Le Mas is..... none of you will want to leave. A stunning, luxurious, haven of tranquility, tastefully decorated and well equipped. We had a glorious time here, in the pool, evening meals outside, lazing in the garden and exploring the fantastic surrounding area when we managed to pull ourselves away from the house. The property was clean, well maintained and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. All communications with the owners were very pleasant, helpful and prompt. We really hope to be going back.
What a wonderful review... Many, many thanks. We've had such fabulous reviews again this year in our guest book, on our website and now on Owners Direct. It is really satisfying to know that our much-valued visitors enjoy our French home as much as we do.
Beautiful French holiday home
“This is a beautiful, traditional farmhouse which is obviously loved by its owners. There is plenty to do for all the family around the house but we just loved chilling on the many shady patios and in the hammocks, enjoying the views when we weren't playing in the pool with the children. Our party had 8 adults and 3 children aged 3, 6 and 10. Two couples without children shared Le Petit Mas and those with children were in the main house. The upstairs bedroom in Le Petit Mas is better suited to children than adults but was perfectly adequate for us.
The houses were well equipped and the bbq was well used! Monpazier, the local "town" is the most friendly place we have ever visited in France and has lots of interesting shops to browse around on a rainy day. That was a blessing as we had more rain than sun!”
We would love to return one day!
A little slice of heaven
If you want to experience the upmost charm of rural France this place has it all. Located in a secluded hamlet and surrounded by fields Le Mas is the perfect mix of informal and comfortable accomodation (enough to sleep 12!) and all modern convenience. My advice? Fill up with wine and cheese from the local village on your way in and try to leave the property all little as possible!
The property has two seperate accomodations comprised of a lovingly restored farm house and barn. It suits a larger family or two family vacation perfectly. There are activities for all age groups to enjoy and the pool ensures that the children are gainfully occupied for hours.
There are several lovely walks out from the house along tree lined roads flanked with corn fileds and horse pastures. Local amenities are a short drive but far enough away for this place to feel like a true gidden gem.
I would highly recommend this place - it is a perfect place to create cherised memories of family vacations.
This was the second time that our large group has rented both properties at Le Mas and we are already talking about when the next time will be. Both houses and the pool are beautiful and the entire site is stunning and peaceful retreat. The pool area has been re surfaced since our last stay and looks great. Thanks to Roger Meadows and the property managers for accommodating our needs fully from the point of booking till the end of our stay.
A magical, stunning & simply delightful farmhouse!
Le Mas couldn't be a more welcoming, comfortable, peaceful, beautiful, traditional French Farmhouse. It's the holiday home one hopes might exist, and then exceeds expectations. It oozes character and charm; and is wonderfully decorated with a warm, family home feel. It's equipped for all one needs for a family holiday or a quiet retreat. The pool is lovely, surrounded by trees and fields - the whole property feels like the rest of the world has disappeared and the beautiful countryside surrounding is all yours! The local villages are wonderful to explore with fabulous traditional market squares to sit in and watch the world go by; and the selection of restaurants/eateries is perfect for a range of options, from delicious michelin star restaurants to traditional local cafes or wonderful shops to stock up on fresh baguettes, cheese, olives etc to enjoy at home by the pool. The region is simply beautiful, with canoeing, exploring, wine tasting, walking or just relaxing on the agenda. We loved every single moment at Le Mas; it just wasn't long enough and we'll be back very soon!
Beautiful rustic family getaway
We had a glorious week in Le Mas at the end of July. This is a lovely rustic farmhouse, ideal for family gatherings. The main living area is comfortable and airy and the pool is fantastic, especially the outside shower! The views from the house are spectacular - perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine, lighting the barbecue and letting the children go wild (great swings!) The location of the house is excellent - you feel you are miles from city life (which you are) but there are shops and countless markets just a drive away. Monpazier is a stunning bastide town closest to the house and there are loads of activities for families, including a lovely horse-riding centre 15 minutes' away.
Le Mas is 45 minutes from Bergarac airport or 2 hours from both Bordeaux or Toulouse. It is 8-9 hours (420 miles) driving from the ferry port at Caen-Ouistreham. Its rural location means that a car or other transport is essential.
Le Mas is 6kms from Monpazier, 11kms from Belves and the Dordogne river and numerous other beautiful bastide villages and chateaux. Many restaurants plus canoeing, golf, tennis and horse riding are all close at hand (within 30 minutes).
Monpazier has 2 small supermarkets, a bank and plenty of interesting shops and cafes. Large supermarkets are found at Siorac, Villereal and Bergerac. The closest, stunning chateau is at Biron (15kms) and the many chateaux and canoeing locations on the Dordogne are 30 minutes away.
