Converted Barn in West Buckland, Near Bantham, South Devon, England

Langmans Bothy is south facing and sheltered from the wind making it a really relaxing place to stay. The spacious living room with mini kitchen will provide you with everything you need to be self contained. This is an ideal space for a couple seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of our busy world.

It is only 4 miles from Kingsbridge, our closest town for shops etc.

The beaches are just a 15 minutes walk away.

About David Martin

Anna and David live here permanently in what was the farmhouse in earlier times. Langmans Bothy was a farm building which has had many uses in its time but perhaps its last use was for the farm workers. We decided to restore it into a separate, self contained cottage for a couple seeking the peace and tranquillity in this beautiful part of Devon. We care for and look after the property ourselves and do not rely on contractors or agents for any service and consequently we are always on hand to attend to any of your needs.

Why David Martin chose South Hams

Having spent holidays in this area for years we decided to settle here permanently. The Bothy was perfect for conversion into holiday accommodation. West Buckland is in a peaceful valley but very close to the beautiful beach and estuary at Bantham, and also good golf courses at Thurlestone and Bigbury.

What makes this barn unique

Peace and quiet, convenient access to the beaches and messing about in boats. Walking, both coastal and inland, is a must. We also enjoy playing tennis at Thurlestone. The Thurlestone Hotel has all the amenities of a good hotel, including and excellent restaurant, good bar, hairdresser and beautician.

Notes on accommodation: Laundry and ironing facilities are available in our laundry room which is attached to our house but which has its own access. Outside: Two outside chairs, cushions, a table and sun umbrella are provided on a terrace overlooking our garden. Utility Room: Guests have access to our laundry room which has a washing machine, tumble dryer and double sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are supplied and changed weekly. Guests clean whilst in residence but there is no need for them to clean the property at the end of their stay, although we would like it to be left in a tidy state.

Fantastic location for a quiet getaway but close enough to amenities and beaches that you don't need to spend hours in the car getting places. Plenty to do in the local area.

A well equipped facility in a perfect location with access to walk or drive to a beach

Very comfortable stay in this sensitively renovated and well equipped former farm building.

Perfect location-very peaceful yet only a short walk to local pubs (2), Bantham beach and wonderful coastal walks.

We would very much like to stay here again.

Hidden Gem

Very high standard of accommodation, great attention to detail, a perfect retreat, lovely quiet location with short walk to beautiful beaches. The underfloor heating makes it a cosy winter getaway. We will go back and thoroughly recommended it.

Fresh and well kept

Beautiful, peaceful part of the world. Owners were very accommodating and thoughtfully provided home baked bread and breakfast provisions for your first breakfast. Nearby beaches perfect for surfers, dog walkers ( own beach) and were clean and safe for children and just a leisurely 15mins walk away. Great local pub 10mins walk with good quality pub food and superb fish and chips. Enjoyed our short break.

Bantham Beach is our closest beach and is about 15 minutes walk away. There is a lifeguard on duty and the beach is kept clean by the Evans' Estate. Surfing, paddle boarding, kite surfing and boogie boarding are popular here.

There are also very good beaches at Thurlestone about 20 to 25 minutes' walk away and only a few minutes by car.

The South West Coast path is easily accessed at Bantham or Thurlestone..


The nearest train station is Totnes from which a bus will take you to Kingsbridge, from where you have to get a taxi. But the easiest form of transport is by car.


We are 4 miles from Kingsbridge which is our nearest town. Salcombe is 9 miles away and Totnes 14 miles. Plymouth is about 40 minutes drive away, and you can drive the edge of Dartmoor in about half an hour.

Further Details:

At Bantham there is The Sloop Inn and also a shop which is open in the summer.

At Thurlestone there is the Village Inn, Thurlestone Hotel and excellent shop and post office open everyday all the year round.
