The house is in a very central location, the nearest beach is in Sliema. By car it takes only about 20 minutes and by bus maybe 35 minutes. The only golf course in Malta is only about 5 minutes away. The location is very quiet and yet in 2 minutes you can find all the shops and restaurants. The local Fiesta is celebrated in the last week of June. The patron saint procession passes right in front of the house. The good friday procession is a big event in Qormi and the main activities are all held in front of the house. Stunning house, fantastic stay
My partner and I stayed here in October 2018 and had an absolutely wonderful time.
The house is absolutely stunning, and the photos really don't do it justice! Since there were only the two of us, we had access to the master bedroom with en-suite jacuzzi and shower, and a little balcony overlooking the pool. The bedroom furniture, as with all the furniture in the house, is beautiful and high quality, and exactly to our tastes. We also had access to all the outside terraces and the pool, and the weather was good enough for most of our stay in October to make use of them all.
Saviour and his wife met us at the property on arrival, and told us everything we needed to know about the house and the local area, and the house also has a number of handy guide leaflets, and a folder with further information for guests, so we didn't struggle to find our way around. They also told us to watch out for mosquitoes, given the time of year, which we didn't, and promptly got bitten. Word to the wise - listen to your hosts' good advice! :) There are mosquito nets on all the doors though, and some mosquito-repellent plugs for use in the house, plus Saviour's wife left us some spray, for which we were very grateful.
The location is great. Nice and quiet, and yet only 10 mins' drive from the capital, Valetta. The house is in a quiet suburb, with some shops and eateries in walking distance, including a couple of large supermarkets (15 mins on foot, or 5 in the car). If you're hiring a car (best way to see all of Malta), then your satnav might struggle a little with the local small streets and one-way system (ours tried to send us the wrong way down one-way streets and through house walls a few times!), but you'll soon get to know your way around as we did. I noted a few guests had mentioned issues with parking. We found that if you were parking during work hours (before 4 o'clock) you can usually park pretty close by, but after 4-5pm it gets very busy. Having said that, we usually found a spot within 2-3 mins' walk from the house, and only once did we have to walk more than that - and that was handy as we then found the 24 hour bakery 5 mins around the corner! :)
To sum up, I can't recommend this property highly enough. It has everything you need for a wonderful relaxing stay in opulent surroundings, peaceful yet only a short drive from Malta's main attractions, and more than value for money.
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our property. It has been great having you both as our guests. We hope to see you again soon
House with personality
Our family of four had a great time in this spacious 4 bedroom house.Sunbathing on the roof, breakfast on the balcony and the private pool after a long day sightseeing was just perfect for August in Malta is really too hot.It was just perfect for a family holiday. The host was very helpful and friendly. We used public transport to travel around the island and it was fine.To taste traditional Maltese food we visited The restaurant Rizzet L'Antik nearby and the food was really tasty. Thank you, Saviour, we really enjoyed our vacation.
Wonderful house, location not ideal
This is a lovely house to stay in. The entrance hall which doubles as a living room is like a medieval banquet hall with really high ceilings. The house goes on and on and on as you go upwards with several balconies, ideal for having an evening cocktail. The four bedrooms were all spacious. The master bedroom is somewhat unusual with the bath, toilet and shower as part of the bedroom i.e. no partition separating them. A fascinating feature is the underground air-raid bunker!
The host, Saviour, was very helpful and friendly. The electricity blew one evening owing to a fault with the fridge. Someone came within less than half an hour and got the power back (minus the fridge). The following morning a replacement fridge was supplied. We all understand things can go wrong, in this case the reaction to fix the problem was very good and our inconvenience was minimised.
The location in the suburb of Qormi was not great, but that should have been clear to me from looking at the map, so no real complaints there. However, on-street parking is a drag and I often had to drive around for some time to find a parking space. Although we never used the buses, I understand they are very good and you might well be better off not hiring a car if staying here.
A couple of suggestions. A previous reviewer suggested putting in an electric kettle. I agree. Boiling a kettle on the gas hob can be wasteful as you can forget that it is on and it continues to boil away. The €20 investment would be paid back very quickly. The host should provide enough refuse bags to cover the time the guests are there (refuse is collected six days a week). Also a bottle of washing up liquid would encourage the guests to clean up.
Overall very positive.
Beautiful Maltese house in the heart of the local community
The house owner, Saviour, collected us from the airport and gave us a brief guide of the area before introducing us to his lovely home.
The house is very grand, better than the pictures. The pool is completely private and very welcome in the summer months.
Little shops within walking distance where you get freshly baked bread daily plus other essentials.
I didn't get a car,not sure where you would park but buses plentiful , cheap, clean, air condititoned and plenty of bus stops near by.
Would recommend for families as plenty of space.
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our property, we will be glad to welcome you again in our property very soon
A very nice property. BUT...
This is not a bad property, BUT... there are certain things any decent holiday home renter ought to know about it.
I did get off on the wrong footing with the owner, due to his lack of response to me particularly when our arrival date was only days away.
The Owner did meet us at the property, but I feel our prior issues led to a certain coolness!
RULES. There are Rules about Rules all over the property, which I found offensive to say the least. "Don't do this; Don't do that"! Most notably there is a Pool, and there is SUN, yet there is a Rule that NO sun creams/oils etc are to be used around and or in the Pool! So you are expected to leave yourself and more worringly any children to just bake in the pool with NO protection from the sun. We obeyed the house Rules and refrained from using the pool.
1) LACK of parking. 1 hour to park our car, and 1 km away!
2) We were NOT made aware of the fact that because we were a small group (3) some of the property as ADVERTISED to us, was closed off to us. (most offensive)
3) My wife and child were cold in the property at night, probably owing to the extremly high ceiling and the property being of Stone/Brick construction. There was NO means of heating the property. There was a small fireplace in the living room, appeared to be workable but also appeared to be for decorative purposes ONLY, as there is another "Rule" "NO FIRES" which unbelievably included and prevented the use of candles!
4) I informed the Owner and he couldn't understand this "Cold" issue but in fairness he said that he would arrange for a Gas heater to be delivered. (Which was and on the same day)
5) Gas heater delivered by a fiesty lady. She insisted that we were responsible for the heater on numerous occasions, then asked "Do you really want it now that you are responsible for it" whatever she meant by this we still don't know, as the Cool evenings were still an issue!
6) This lady proceeded to go upstairs (To show us how to work the washing machine) and proceeded to turn OFF any lights which we had left "on" in the building, and making gestures as she did. we honestly felt like bold children on a school tour with a grumpy teacher!
7) Finally there is NO electric Kettle in this property!! There is NO hairdryer in this property!! These are things I have never known to be missing from any other property we have rented over the past 25 years!! I could go on...! I liked it, but my wife and child hated it! honestly!
First 3 star review I received in 10 years of renting this house,
Thought I was going to receive some negative comments from this man from the very first email I received from him and I was right. Good tastes are not for everybody to appreciate I'm afraid!
I am not going to make a reply for this review by doing a whole composition and annoying all future guests so I am most certain that prospective guests will make a judgement after taking a look at the other reviews we have for this property
Surely if it was me making these negative comments I wouldn't even give a one star imagine a 3 star.
Great appartment with very nice host!
Thank you for your review. I am disappointed that I found the house upon cleaning in a very bad state. I tried to make your stay at our house as pleasant as possibile and your review confirms this however upon cleaning the house we found out that you and the rest of your group has left it in a very sorry state. I am informed that you also brought in on occasions visitors sleeping in the house so you broke a principal house rule. 6 large bags of garbage left in the house is unacceptable.
I try as a host to make the perfect stay and then when I have a group that does not care really makes me sad
